why get a new generator for the power issues if you live in *Australia* ?! just invest in a proper solar installation! the amount of sun they're getting is insane and if you tend to it correctly it will last you for decades, with only the batteries wearing down. the diesel generator should then only be used for emergencies, after you got several very cloudy days after another.
Why not get solar panels instead of a generator? No diesel cost and plenty of sunshine.

Solar panels are expensive af and need massive battery banks to truly be effective in such a rural setting

Sod the opal their driving a series 2a Land rover sell that buy a newer 4x4 and a new generator
something to be said to having a reliable mechanical vehicle you get some new 4x4 and you will not be doing much in the way of bush repairs on it ( still using 3 johndeere tractors from the 70s on our farm and most problems can be fixed in the pole barn if not the in the field have one newer 2019 case and it is nice enough has ac gps and more electronics than i ever want to get shit on again)
