    For locomotives of this wheel configuration, the 8fs really shine. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    I love the 8f, it's body type reminds me of a black five, the wheel configuration is way different though. As a side note can you please do a review of the black five if you can? Love your vids and keep up the good work! (:

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  7 лет назад +3

      Thanks Sean, it's funny you should say that - after all the black 5 and the 8F were produced by the same designer! Yeah I've reviewed the Black five already, and I'm yet to review the standard 5!
      Thanks for watching,

    I love this Sam! I have this since I first started locos ha and I remember the story of a U boat taking a shot at some onboard a ship trying to stop freight moving around
    Old trouble I ever had was it never made it round 3rd radius correctly
    Excellent video Sam

    Trainspotting time i saw: Your Bachmann Ex lms crab 2-6-0, your Bachmann Lms Patriot 4-6-0, Your wrenn Lms Coronation scot, your Hornby Lms fowler 4p 4-4-0, your Wrenn Royal Scot (I think) and that's all.
    the odd one out was the lms patriot among all the black based liveries.
    Great vid Sam Loving the music and quality, keep it up! :)

    Good review Sam, there is something very business like about those 8F's.
    Did you know after WW2 the LNER brought 68 of them and called them class O6, they even had LNER numbers, but on nationalisation the where all placed in the 48xxx series with the LMS locos. The GWR also had some on loan from the MoD ROD (Railway Operations Department) but they were never given GWR numbers. Also you mentioned them going to the Middle East, Turkey also brought a batch of 20 and used them right up til the 1980's. A couple of them have been preserved, and at least one has come home to the UK. The Italian Railways brought 15 from Iran and used them well into the 1950's and of the 12 that were brought by Iraq at the end of the war one (works number 1429) is still to be found abandoned on a siding behind a shed in Baghdad.
    Any way, nice work mate, and have a great week
    Jon

      @SamsTrains  7 лет назад

      No I didn't know that - that really is very interesting! I didn't know they were quite so well travelled as that too - it's very impressive, and says a lot for British engineering I suppose!

    The plate says LMS Crewe 1942. I have one 48706 which has plate Brighton 1944. The star means that the wheels are balanced, which would allow passenger operation. The Stanier 8 was used for unfitted freight, in particular mineral traffic and semi fast fitted freight. Interestingly the other engine you have is the Fowler 4F which was the LMS's other standard freight engine.

    • @SamsTrains

      Hi mate, yeah lots of second hand locos do have those issues - but once they arrive with me, that's the end of it - I work hard to make sure the track (and the room as a whole) is free of dust and hair, by regular vacuuming and cleaning - and it seems to work very well! :D

    Lovely loco Sam, I have a soft spot for Stanier's machines. : )
    When you took her apart, what did you find ? Mine went "sticky" after a long period out of action, some fresh lubing got her moving, but the motor is no longer as quiet as it was.
    Yours, Cliff.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  7 лет назад

      Hi Cliff, thanks very much for the comment mate - me too!
      I think sticky is the right word! The factory lubricant was very thick and gloopy - almost as though it'd started to harden over time. I managed to remove it all, and apply some oil in stead, and that fixed it! I don't know what happens if that stuff gets inside the motor though?
      Thanks for watching,
      Sam :)

    • @janiceandcliff
      @janiceandcliff 7 лет назад

      Thanks Sam, if it gets worse I'll need to do the same. Trouble is, I'm still messing with the smaller engines, so these lovely Stanier jobs aren't getting a look in at present. Too much procrastination and not enough running is my problem... : )
      Regards, Cliff.
