A #seaport constructed in Vizhinjam will be able to accommodate huge #cargoships with displacements up to 300,000 Tons or 20,000 TEUs easily. The port would be only 12 nautical miles away from the #international ship channel, the Suez-Malacca key #shipping lane!
Vizhinjam, once built, can handle world’s largest #ships as efficiently as Rotterdam, Singapore, Hong Kong ports.
With Vizhinjam port in operation, #India could save $ 100 million annually in terms of foreign exchange!

@@_GMP_ Thank you kerala state govt for investing in 60% of the money for the port❤️. The project was given to adani to only construct it and run. Also the central bjp govt helped adani by not letting any other bidder get the project like they always do🤣

The biggest foolishness of the government was in Vallarpadam, instead if they planned for an international mother port in Vizhinjam, India would have been on another economical base by now.

May this (Vizhinjam) be the first mother port, followed by a few more all along the Indian coast. The coast should have steeper slope underwater, which is possible in most places on West coast, compared to the East coast. Other places (& cost more towards building abutments into the sea) also can offer sites for mother ports but maintenance ("dredger") & running costs would be far more.
Vizhijam is definitely going to be major port in the world

This is definitely a major boost for India's economy. Connecting this port with Chennai and transporting goods using high speed trains will benefit our country. Recently I have read a report from a major SL business newspaper that by doing this, India can transport goods across Indian peninsula faster than SriLanka.
Also I believe, since Vizhinjam is at the border of TN and KL, it can cater to the needs of cities in Tamil Nadu as well. Since Kerala lacks the land for big industries, Tamil Nadu will establish such manufactoring industries and use Vizhinjam to transport products to and fro. Thus both states will benefit greatly from it. But we need to wait and see, I heard the construction is pretty slow at the moment.

I am from Kerala, Trivandrum port, not india' s first mother port, it is the one and only mother port of india. No other ports in india have capacity to become a mother port due to various reasons. North indian lobby and Tamil nadu who can never tolerate kerala's development will go to any extent to break this project at any caust. Jai kerala my mother country

No other port in India is as close to the International shipping lane. Once this is constructed other ports in India will become secondary ports to transfer goods from this mother port.

It is imperative to extend the WFDC to Vizhinjam from JNPT, if the speedy movement of the Containers to & from this mother port. All the stakeholders from across all the professional lines should join hands for this.

Kochi dredging and will not compete big ships
Currently, steps are being taken to increase the draft in Kochi. Therefore, a large ship will arrive in Kochi soon
@@jejifrancis6268 not feasible on longer run...only reason DP world invested there is to make sure TVM port doesn't come up..it was easier then with congress at the centre...I'm no bjp supporter but what I said is a fact...only congress leader who really wanted vizhinjam to be a reality was K Karunakaran..
@@ns8583 Let it be something. In any case, DP World knows that Vizhinjam is not a challenge to Kochi. Vizhinjam is not a safe place. That is why Vizhinjam is late. The Central Government built the port at Vallarpadam instead of Vizhinjam. The construction of Vizhinjam was started ignoring the expert advice that it is not a very eco-friendly project. The work is not completed even after the allotted time now. The reason is the breakwater construction. This caused sea turbulence, and the work was interrupted several times. The work has been halted due to the sea level rise again last day. Work can resume after the monsoon. Therefore, even if the work is completed, Vizhinjam will not be a setback for Kochi. This is because the sea turbulence continues and dredging is always done where the sand accumulates.

@@krishnakumar-oy3ur Vizinjam international seaport limited (visl) is a special purpose 100 percent Kerala government owned company. This project is public private partnership firm where the private party is selected via bidding. First bidder was a Chinese company and they couldn't pass the security clearance from central government to sign the contract. Second bidder was Lanco group and they were challenged on kerala highcourt by zoom developers regarding the bidding process. Last Kerala government updated bidding regulations and then they got a solo bidder which is Adani group. Project funding is shared by private and public firms in which private party is Adani group and public part is VISL which is a 100 percent Kerala government company. This is another example like CIAL.

Mundra port is around 15-18 meters deep.
Why can't it be considered as mother port?
It might not just be the depth,the ports dimensions may also be the cause.
Vizinjam is 25 metre deep natural port that don't need dredging
It's deeper but no other strategic advantages such as closer to international shipping route etc.
Vizhijam is 25 meter deep natural , even an increase in 1 inch of dept of a port its really increase the cargo carring capacity of the ship...
And here its difference is 7-8 meters....
