@@keynsham-trains The sound of the prime mover, i.e. the engine. The Class 59's have EMD's 645E3 engines, which were in prominent use in thousands of American diesel locomotives from the 1960's to the 1990's. Since EMD has fallen out as the main producer of diesel locomotives in America, the sound of those prime movers have become nostalgic for American railfans.
Many thanks for viewing . I am a big fan of the 59s i like how they shift 4800 tonnes of stone with ease even when its wet . I like going to Westbury thats a good place to see the 59s in action .
I can remember seeing my first 59 way back in 83/84 I think ? Who would have believed this design would have made such an impact on the British rail network, where has the time gone thirty odd years etc?
Many thanks for viewing . The class 59 was made to pull heavy loads the 59 works the stone trains out of Merehead & Whatley quarry in Somerset and takes the stone to many locations Acton Dagenham Oxford are just a few of the places they go . Over 30 years old and still able to pull 4000 tonne trains with ease . One of the best places to see a 59 is at Westbury Wiltshire a lot of the stop there .
Thanks for viewing the bell on 59001 is just for show it was something to do with the class 59 & General motors & Foster Yeoman when Foster Yeoman brought the 59s from General motors 59201 also has a bell again just for show not sure why .
not seen it yet, but liked it already, will watch later, i am a fond lover of the 59's so will watch with intrest. have u guys ever thought about going to the mendip quarries to vid?
Thank you . I like the 59s too i can get many on a good trip to Westbury . I have been looking for a few places to go near the quarries nothing good yet .
try great elm. look on my channel. i have a couple of vids i did about the the mendips, think they might intrest you. let me know what u think, i think there is at least two if not three vids on my channel
Thanks for viewing . Yes a 59 looks like a 66 made by the same company same engine similar controls that is where the similarity ends the traction effort and pulling power is what is better on a 59 .
@@keynsham-trains Well there's also the engine difference. Sure the output is the same, but the 66's have slightly larger 710 engines, which also makes the elible to be lower polluting. Even here in the states, locos with 645 engines like the Class 59's aren't modified to meet EPA emission standards
Trowbridge station with the wootton Bassett stone working and Westbury
Yes there are plenty of shots of the 7B12 at Trowbridge & Westbury .
5:39 The sound that'll make Americans blush
Thanks for viewing . I have been trying to work out what sound you are on about .

Many thanks for viewing ,
The relative ease that these locomotives are able to get some seriously heavy loads moving with is incredible.

@@keynsham-trains The class 59 is a British SD40-2
What power 😮
3.300 hp of General motors power plus the massive traction which is what helps the class 59 pull such heavy trains .
Great 😊
Thanks 😊
@@keynsham-trains You’re Welcome.

The SD40-2 is a very powerful engine
Thanks for viewing . The engine in a 59 is 3 300 hp it is more the traction effort that is what make the 59 able to pull the heavy loads
