Best part of it is that the very talented composer here incorporated the fact that these civilizations are RIDERS.The intro and the outro really feels like you' re shooting arrows left and right on horseback.That's just how I see it though, I have no idea about music :p
You are very right because the instruments are supposed to mimick the sounds of horse hooves as they hit the ground. This soundtrack is an art piece that is only recognized by great minds.

While I'll always love the classic Age of Empires II tune no matter which instrumental version they make of it, it's the new composition starting at 1:08 that really makes this for me. I do feel like the Campaign menu theme is thematically more geared towards the "Khans civilizations" more then anything and this part of this song just solidifies that more for me.
When I first installed Definitive Edition, I was actually thinking about trying the Campaign for some of the Southeast Asia civs, since those have Battle Elephants, or maybe try the Incan civilization. But once I heard the song playing in the Campaign menu... _something just _*_drew me_*_ into playing the Cumans' campaign._
And it's funny, up to that point, I was thinking the Cumans would actually be one of civilizations I wouldn't really like at all. BOY, was I in for a surprise!

You should make a theme for each group of civilizations for example:
1. Aztect, Maya, Inca
2. Teutons, Vikings
3. Slavic
And so on.. I am sure would be great ;)

I guess that (some) next expansions will be called: Warriors of Caucasus (Azeris + Armenians + Georgians + Vainakhs), Path of tsars (Bohemians/Moravians), Emperors of the East.
Do you think it would make sense to make a Jurchen civ? I dont know too much about them but they seem different enough from related cultures like the Chinese
@@AgamemnonVsSocratesAandS As a Chinese, I am a little worried there will be some difficulties for them to make a seperate civ from Chinese. They could definitely work as a Heavy Cavalry civ cuz Jin dynasty is famous for that, but what about the Machurians? they are the descendant of Jurchens but with totally different fighting style. Also, what about the Tangutians? If we let Jurchenian out, it won't be fair if we left out Tangutians.
@@williaml.willowfield2220 A Manchurian civ would be awesome. Also have you seen their newest DLC coming out? It involves three new Indian Civs even though we have a generic "Indian" civ already. It reminds me sort of what we're thinking about, making multiple Chinese civs
@@williaml.willowfield2220 Based on how India was reworked; I think Jurchen could work if you doubled down on them being more militaristic, while the current "China" civ is more or less the Song and could be more economic and tech focused.
@@caocao4731 Also I personally want some Khitan civs, you know the Liao Empire, but I dont know if they will overlaped with Mongols since they have the ancestors with them.
0:38 I imagine a young Khan brought his mounted army and his pet hawk caught in his childhood, on a cliff that near to a European fort, he draw his sword point to the sky, to show his determination. Suddenly a big kettle of hawks fly pass and khan's pet hawk follows them into the blue sky. The Khan has been proved by the Heaven and the army burst into cheer and warcry, then they jump down from the cliff and strike the fortress.

Cumans have my respect but my favorite DE civ is Lithuanians.
Came here from the SOTL video. I have a VERY important message: Your Bulgarians track was written by the God of AOE tracks thru your hands brother. That thing is in another level. I've always said it, it makes the Bulgarians OP just because it gives a 1000% moral boost at the start of the game!
If there's ever a 2 hours loop of it, Bulgarians will straight up get 100% win rate on every setting.
I must say, this has immediately become my favourite theme, second only to the Forgotten one

African kingdoms is good
I've played Age since the Age of Kings .. and i must say, if i had to choose a fav., this would be it. The vocals (where did you get them btw? sample?) are such a beautiful adition, giving a shift in the momentum of the timeless Age theme. Thank you for this superb piece of music.

Hallo Steve, dein Kommentar haut mich um :-) im positiven Sinne natürlich ! Vielen Dank für dein Lob! Ich bin mit diesem Spiel aufgewachsen wie viele andere! Ich habe die Soundtracks auf "gebrannten" Cd's rauf und runter gehört. Ich würde behaupten, dass diese mich in meiner Musikalität sogar etwas geprägt haben. Umso erfreulicher für mich, dass ich einen "kleinen" Part in dieser Entwicklung mitspielen darf. Natürlich gibt es viele bürokratische und vertragliche Hintergründe, weshalb mir die komplette "Übernahme" dieses Franchise verwehrt blieb. Ich bin diesem Game nach wie vor sehr verbunden und wäre froh, wenn ich in naher Zukunft alle Civ Tracks (die ich bereits auf 1min. verlängert habe) komplett erweitern dürfte (ca. 2-3 min.) Das wäre toll :)

Is this theme ever heard in-game?
Yes, if you install the "Original Music" mod, then you can get it randomly picked in the main menu. (the mod also includes Vitalis's versions of The Last Khans in-game tracks)
