    It’s the voice and speech--a very distinctive soft style which works good for conveying meanness--which had kept him typecast as villains.

    I'm watching Gunsmoke, and Bruce Dern is playing a bad guy as he usually does. I love you Bruce you are one of my favorite actors.

    Bob said Bruce was the only guy to kill John Wayne on screen. That's not true. He was shot and killed on screen in The Shootist, his last film. It's not clear which one made the fatal shot, but Richard Boone, Hugh O'Brian, Bill McKinney, and the bartender all shot him in the final scene at the saloon.
