Great vid :D I remember once in ship simulator extremes, there was a mission that started with a little runner to get out into an anchored supply vessel in the middle of the harbour. Took control, then headed out to sea to dock to an oil rig. I thought the runner might come in handy later, so I took it in tow. Upon exiting the harbour, the level reloads, and you're out at sea. It didn't reload for the runner though, so all of a sudden, I was tethered by the tow line to a vessel back in harbour, and the game freaked out and I was immediateley dragged to the bottom of the ocean :P Looks like ship sims have come a long way since ^^
I enjoyed the look at the product from a professional (it's been so long on the desktop simulator side for us fans that any good ship sim has come out, so this at least scratches that itch) and I liked both the insights from you and that you answered questions during the session. Given the type of trip it is, I think it is nice to hear the conversation. This actually made good car listening as well. Well done!
I have to admit I was perplexed at the way you went about the harbour entrance exercise. I was expecting the bow to be swung to port once it was level with the entrance with the stern swung to starboard. But then I have never done it for real so what would I know. Interesting video, have a like.
I love your channel and am fascinated by your videos. You have a really natural presenting style. Thank you for bringing us such interesting high-quality content. Great job!
i enjoyed this, watching the scenario and thinking about the best way to over come it was enjoyable, i find it hard to learn things but from your videos i have got a greater understanding of how a ship is used and how best to use it. please do more of these
Great stuff! I love your channel. I sail myself, but have nothing to do with professional maritime industry, yet I love your vids and this stream and getting to know more about you was a great experience. Looking forwards for more! All the best from Poland!
PS. As a pilot - do You actually sometimes take control of the ship? Like take the wheel and steer yourself, or issue orders to the helmsman and the engine? How do You know, how the ship handles if this is the first time you "drive" it? How do You know the inertia? How it reacts to the wind or current? Is it all reactive, so You basically play the safe ball and react to what you see, or do you take advantage of the multiple other ships you piloted and how they handle, to, sort of, estimate, how this particular one will handle? You got to have balls to steer unknown ships into tight spaces like that on the vid :)
Very interesting and entertaining concept ! I really enjoy(ed) watching how these things happen while getting an explanation why&how... keeping it ''immersive'' in 1st person gets a huge thumbs up from me as well !! The occasional 'drone shot' is fine i guess, but it does make it feel like a silly computer game all of a sudden, agreed...hehe.
This reminds me a lot of doing a crosswind landing, but at 1/100th the speed in every sense; your shop reacts much slower than an airliner, and airliners aren't exactly agile planes!
Would you consider doing a video regarding boarding at sea, with your best/worst experiences as pilot and what to look for prior taking a step on the ladder?
Love your videos, nice to see a face to your channel. You were piloting in Wales, which port? I was a shipping agent based at Holyhead for many years and now the crew manager for a local towing company.
as a rhine river captain, i wont think it would be paticularily hard for me to make the upstream/downstream mission. but cool, does this Nautilus program also have the rhine river?
Next live stream will ne big money. You need to announce it earlier. You also need to make it long enough for people to join; plan on the first 90 minutes being a ramp to peak time, the last 30 you wind down to close it out. It's like a job, kinda.
Hi mate, I bought a Subscription to Nautis upon Release. Being a retired Mariner of 35 years I was quite disappointed when it dropped. I had zero ambition to learn how to berth, Depart, and basically all Harbour work. I was more interested in the delivery/return side of things Worldwide. The last time I booted the Sim up it had not improved much and still played like a game with tasks n crap. With nowhere to change your experience level in SIM. So I found this to be quite bloody boring to be honest. They assured me that Free World Roaming would be one of the things to address so we could actually Ship and not just practising in Harbours. That was a year ago. Appreciate you showing us where it's at mate. Has the Free Roam been added as yet and ''Contracts'' ? Thanks for handy update, Take care from Australia.
I am pretty sure you keep putting the bow thruster the wrong way….that’s why it didn’t feel like you wanted it too…unless I’m mistaken but it looked like you were trying to turn to port but had the thruster on to stbd, couldn’t see so great on my phone.
wait, Vstep did make another ship simulator? I thought this series fell off the face of the earth, I remember starting way back in 2006 with ship simulator 2006, then ship simulator extremes, then it was pretty dead from then on
As a pilot (aviation), Im curious what mechanism these ships use to determine speed (including side to side). GPS seems like it might not be accurate/reliable enough, but maybe I'm wrong. And onboard sensors, like on deck or submerged seem like they might only be able to provide an estimated average. If anyone has any info on this, I'm pretty curious. Thanks!
The "Speed to Water" determine by Electromagnetic sensors below water level. The "Speed over Ground" determine by GPS alone. Unlike aviation, ships are bigger, travel at slower speed (10-15 knots average, up to 25 for express container ship, up to 40 for warship) and take longer time to change course so the accuracy of GPS is acceptable. Plus there is DGPS in case you need more accuracy/reliable like coastal sailing or berthing at port. The old way is: tie knots at the same length on a rope and drop it to the water, how many knots was pull to water mean that much speed the ship going hence nowaday ship speed called Knots (nautical mile/hour)
Never seen your face before but have been watching since moreorless day one. You sound a lot younger than you are :P Please don't take that as an insult! You genuinely sound like someone in their early 20s at most!
@smeeself Sorry. I was asking what is the name of the application he was using. He didn't say it at all during the stream and no one seems to have thought to ask.
This....was way more fascinating than I expected it to be. Fun video!
Thanks Jae. Glad you enjoyed it.
Loved seeing maneuvering in action and hearing about how the characteristics of ships affect how you control it
Glad you enjoyed it!
RUclips is just the worst for notifications :(
Frfr
“Notify me” and yet, I received nothing.
I completely agree, would have few really enjoyed to watch this live
This is 10 hours ago but I only got my notif about 2 hours ago
Its frustrating how hit & miss it is. I'll be doing more streams though, so hopefully you can catch the next one.
I wish RUclips put this in the recommended while it was live…
I assumed it would. Maybe next time it will work as intended.
I grew up in a port town, and watched the ships come in to dock - so interesting to see this from your perspective! Thank you!
i'm enjoying Nautis. Using a wheel and throttle controller really increases the enjoyment for me
First chat comment I saw; 'Ayyyy, lets crash some ships!'.
I was immediately gripped with anticipation!
Love to hear all the positive comments across RUclips and Facebook. Such a nice channel run by a nice fella!
Thanks George. I appreciate the kind remarks.
Really interesting hearing your thought process and reactions to the conditions :D
Thanks!
I have no experience with sailing or industry but your videos are quite fun to watch. I would like to see these type of live handlings more.
Great vid :D

Pity I missed the stream. I’ll keep an eye open for the next one. This was interesting and chilled.
Thanks. I'll be doing more, so keep an eye on the community tab for updates.

I thrust to starboard as I knew the current and vessel swing would all push the pow to port anyway and I was anticipating countering it.
I love your channel and am fascinated by your videos. You have a really natural presenting style. Thank you for bringing us such interesting high-quality content. Great job!
I have been listening to you for a year or so. You do not look the way I thought you would.

I fell into this rabbit hole of your channel one random night while sleepwalking and I'm still hooked 😂
did not know that this is actually fun to watch
thank you for the video
Tractor tug Cap here! Love the channel and the live stream 👍🏻
Thanks Holy! Glad you enjoyed it!
Always a pleasure to watch a master at work
really nice to watch in the evening. relaxing and the skill is impressive!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
So happy you make videos! I’m trying to get into the cargo piloting business and I’ll take any information I can get
Thanks Ella. Good luck on your career.
This is so endlessly fascinating.
Awesome, thoroughly enjoyed this, great work!
Thanks Jose!
Master at work! I would love to see more.
Fascinating video, good demonstration.
Loved that, please do more! 👍👍

my dad is in the RFA (Royal Fleet Auxiliary) and is a fan of boats, better make sure he sees this video
That was quite fun. (Although I skipped most of the questions and just watched the ship-handling.) You should do more of these.
Would you consider doing a video regarding boarding at sea, with your best/worst experiences as pilot and what to look for prior taking a step on the ladder?
This was great! Superchill :)
The iconic voice has a face! Great video, really enjoyed it
omg THANK you for showing me this!
Thanks John!
Canadian here. My father was on the Great Lakes for 40 years.
Can’t wait for this to have an esports 🤞
That was really nice evening entertainment!
Thanks Jonas! Glad you enjoyed it!
Very chill video, perfect for dinner :)
What did you eat?
Thanks!
oh, i did not realise vstep was finally again devellopping something :) thx

Great vids again.
Thanks Aezra.
Sir, You are 10/10 for RUclips and us, the viewers. Thank You for Your videos!
CASNAV is your new abbreviation
Face reveal!!
I dont know how i expected him to look like, but Not Like that anyway. 😂
You could always find me on Google anyway, so I figured I may as well enjoy making some different content on the channel as well.
@@CasualNavigation I like this style of content, your normal stuff is great also.
Live your channel. Would be interesting if you could make something about inland shipping.
Your surprisingly pleasant person. I could listen to you all day! .. podcast??
Brilliant
I would love to see some sailing videos ⛵️
Wow, finally we get to see your face.
"Keep enjoying the videos!" - well, don't mind if I do!
But you are a captain... the captain of my heart.
Please do more of this
Shame I missed it, but still very much enjoyed listening to the VOD
I hope you do more, so hopefully you can catch the next one.
as a rhine river captain, i wont think it would be paticularily hard for me to make the upstream/downstream mission. but cool, does this Nautilus program also have the rhine river?
Can you off-centre the radar vrm and use that to measure the entrance?
You should try Virtual Sailor as well, though there’s some differences when it comes to physics.
Saludos desde chile
Someone should invent pilot drones so you can have orbit view irl lol

I wonder if that game will get a career mode? Where you move between ports taking cargo contracts.
this is more of a simulation than a game. Transocean is pretty fun if you are interested in something like that.
Could be an interesting addition.
I am pretty sure you keep putting the bow thruster the wrong way….that’s why it didn’t feel like you wanted it too…unless I’m mistaken but it looked like you were trying to turn to port but had the thruster on to stbd, couldn’t see so great on my phone.
Does this simulation need internet connection to work?

Where can we find this App?
ah! the disembodied voice has taken a host!
kidding aside, very good steam.
RUclips, what the fuck???
Why did you notify me After the stream??? I can't if I'm pissed off or confused at this like why????
This happens so often
They also don’t notify you of new uploads immediately. Only once the video gets some engagement
This is something hours after the video is uploaded
same

Very cool

That's not a ship, that's a simulated game
Jaysus, you look twice as English as I’d imagined.
