That strategy will only work if the foreign investors can make a profit here. But with our socialist unions and BEE laws that is impossible. Unions make our labour too expensive and BEE forces big companies to hand over half of the company to a BEE partner, with zero investment from that partner. So basically, no chance to make a profit and therefore no investment in industrial infrastructure. Simple.
An example is Starlink. Elon Musk cannot get an ICASA license unless he has a BEE partner. He refuses to hand over half of his investment to an unproductive partner. No Starlink. SA loses out on the benefits it would bring. SA is dying because of the ANC grifting policies.

Funny enough Cyril stated yesterday there is no push for a BRICS currency "yet" at the former BRICS meeting in 2022 SA was suppose to host the BRICS sunmit, but with DA stating they would arrest ICC sanctioned Putin it got moved. The major topic of that very meeting SA was to host was to discuss the development of the currency and 10 new country partners and their role in the currency, which Cyril now plays dumb about...
The currency is to be backed by oil and gold and SA honestly doesnt excel in either, In apartheid we were 1 of the biggest gold traders in the world today we cant keep up because the costs in SA after zuma loadshedding state capture and Cyril uneagerness to help SA made gold extraction impossible as prices soared by almost a 1000%...electricity at 900% over a decade...
SA is stated to be a literal gold mine even today. Yet Guptas China zama zamas milking SA resources while actual SA businesses cant afford to operate.

The dollar is a currency wholly controlled by the US and because you constantly have to keep up to date with who the US doesn't like. All your dollar denominated assets are always at risk of being affected should they wake up one morning considering you a threat or enemy. I fully support countries only using dollars when trading with the US and using their currencies to trade with other countries. Isn't a diversified portfolio the best form of investment. The dollar does not have an inalienable right for non-US countries to use it.

There is a misconception how the tariff ,if imposed , works,.The importer of goods in the USA from a sanctioned country is held accountable for the tariff placed upon the sanctioned country .The US does not directly levy the sanctioned country. The effect is that importers are discouraged to import goods from a sanctioned country and they are less competitive .

With the tariffs added our products would be too expensive and the importers would stop importing them. SA would no longer have the US as an export market. SA loses. The US would then get the products from there own producers who would then be cheaper than SA. That is the whole point of import tariffs. To push your own market back to your own producers and stop money flowing out of your country to others. Why do you think the Rand is worth nothing? Because we produce too few industrial products and have to import vital products like oil. We have a massive trade deficit and the weaker the Rand gets, the worse it is. We desperately need to export as much as we can to earn foreign currency. The US market is massively important for us.

SA comrades should but will not see it as such - not that their word carries any weight in global politics. They should have stayed neutral in the israel/palestinian conflict - its not as if Palestine contributed anything to better lives in sunny SA. Let middle eastern countries therefore sort out their diffs.
Aggravating western bankers is laying SA's neck on the chopping block. We just owe these bankers too much money. Theyre going to come for SA. Gov better prepare for a blow back.

fun fact, you can really dislike Trump the person, Trumpism the phenomena - and recognize that his platform makes sense. If by now anyone doesn't get his appeal, it's because they refuse to and would prefer the easier path of calling his supporters idiots and racists and and and. I heavily disagree with e.g. Malema or Zuma, but I've got some understanding for why their base supports them even if I don't. You can call the other side garbage forever and never try to understand them... it won't win you elections or the culture war and it's super detrimental to society long-term. Even in SA now there are so many people keep dropping their disdain for the guy in random conversations, like going to your doctor and hearing about US politics where neither you or they could vote - it's cringe. I thought TDS was some silly term until I hear from people at work who are convinced this election result is the end of democracy or something, wild.
