You're basically just hoping that your bankroll will last until you hit a good bonus. The old 3-reel slots would give you lots of little hits which would at least keep you playing for a while. I'm sure this is intentional. The casinos don't want people sitting at a machine recycling the same $100 over and over. They want you to sit down, dump your bankroll, and make room for the next "patron" to do the same. One lucky player in a 100 will hit a decent bonus and can walk away with a win, if they so choose.
