16:52 Ned didn't stab Arthur in the back. In the show, we saw Howland Reed do it. In the books, we still don't know what happened. And Ned definitely did not paint himself as a hero to his children when telling that story. He's not vain like that. That was a complete show invention.

@@rahilrameez8635 Come on now. I understand how a reader/viewer would feel that Ned was wrong to judge Jaime for killing the Mad King. But let's not pretend that Howland stabbing Arthur Dayne in the back so Ned could finish him, which only happens in the show, is remotely comparable to what Jaime did.
Howland doesn't owe shit to Aurthur Dayne. He doesn't owe him allegiance. The fight was 7 against 3, it was already unmatched. Meaning that it was foreseeable for all the Kingsguards that they could get hurt or killed by a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th person.
Jaime was a member of the Kingsuard. He was a sworn to protect the King, and he killed that king. Even if Jaime was justified in killing the Mad King, he did not tell Ned why he did it. And even if he had, even if Ned had understood, it's highly unlikely that he would change his mind about what Jaime deserves, which is, at the very least, to be sent to the Night's Watch. Instead, Jaime got to keep his job.
Hundreds of years earlier, Brynden Rivers aka Bloodraven, by agreeing to receive an enemy of the King peacefully. When that enemy arrived, he killed him immediately. For that, he was sent to the Night's watch. Why should it be any different for Jaime?

Ned Stark didn't "earn" his sword Ice by proving himself in combat. He inherited it as it was a Stark family heirloom. The point about the Dayne family Valyrian steel sword Dawn is that unlike those of other houses, it cannot be wielded by any scion of House Dayne unless they first prove themself worthy of it.
P.S The mystery knight at the Harrenhal tournament was Lyanna Stark.

Jaime Lannister at a young age of 15 was among the men that joined the campaign against the Kingswood Brotherhood. And he briefly fought and held his ground against the Smiling Knight before he was fought and slain by Ser Arthur Dayne. Jaime recalled and compared the Smiling Knight to Ser Gregor Clegane of his time. That fight was the reason why Dayne himself annointed Jaime and became the youngest knight ever.
And it's quite on character for Ned to omit those details of Jaime's feats in his narration 😅

Qyburn might be curious and "open-minded" but he is a fanatic doctor who will cross any lines for "science". Same goes for Euron, he's very unhinged, though they softened that up in the show. They did not do him justice at all, he's much much more menacing in the books (because of his travels to those parts of the world, he has seen things, done things and collected some pretty scary things that might make him a match even for Dany).
    Edit:
The High Sparrow might be for the people, but only if they do things his religious way, he has no tolerance for other people's religions or how they want to live their lives. He also has the Faith Militant to ensure that he can enforce his religion's rules, making him a dangerous religious zealot.

More importantly, book Eyron is way smarter, way more cunning, and a force to be reckoned with, he even has charisma, he is closer to Tywin in terms of menacing, charismatic and respectful in fact. Compared to that, the show Eyron is just a selfish unlikeable blob of a useless character. Nobody in their right mind would respect this guy. Its beyond laughable what they did with this character in the show.

Well the High Sparrow keeps talking about the plight of the common folk, but we have yet to see him take any action that directly improves their lot. Even Margery did more, walking among them (rather than just surrounding herself with her soldiers as the HS does) and distributing food to them. The High Sparrow is all talk - all he wants is power; we know that because power is "all" that he has achieved - and he uses his power to get more power, not to help the commonfolk. He's a fraud and I can't believe so many people fall for his shtick!

The more interessting recit is the one by Merra Reed about the *great tournment of Harrenhall*
This tournement is so special in GOT lore... So much history on this short period.
Rhaegar Targaryan know his father was mad and evil. So he wanted to organize a big tournament bringing together the greatest lords of Westeros.
But the secret objective of this tournament was actually to gather in the same place a number of great lords... In order to discuss the overthrow of Aerys!
Aware of his father's folly, Rhaegar planned to rely on the lords most hostile to Aerys II *in order to plan his father's forcible removal* and his own coronation to become king Rhaegar.
Rhaegar did not want to do so out of ambition, but for the good of the kingdom, which Aerys was leading to its downfall.
The tournament was only the "*front*" for the conspirators to organize.
But King Aerys II suspected that something was going on... And decided to come to the tournament in person (even though he hadn't left the Red Keep for years, traumatized by his kidnapping about ten years ago).
During this tournament, the father of Meera Reed (Howland Reed, who is ALSO the one who saved Ned Stark from the fight against Arthur Dayne at the tower of joy by kicking the latter in the back), was attacked by 3 squires.
Lyanna Stark has intervened to save him.
*The pretty woman with purple eyes is none other than Lady Ashara Dayne* the sister of Arthur Dayne (The knight of the king gard who almost beat Ned). Barristan Selmy had a soft spot for her, though he was too faithful to her vows to deny them.
However, he wanted to win the tournament to crown Lady Ashara "*queen of love and beauty*".
Another man fell in love with Ashara Dayne this night : *Ned Stark* himself!
Later, during this tournament, Rhaegar sang a song so sad that made Lyanna cry.
The next day, a mysterious masked knight with a painted shield (who will be dubbed *the Knight of the Laughing Tree* because of this painting) bit the 3 knights whose squires harassed Howland Reed. Triumphant, he demanded only one thing from the knights: that they learn honor from their squires..
*This mysterious knight was.... Lyanna Stark herself!!!*
But Aerys, totally paranoid, had considered that this knight was probably a traitor, and ordered his son, Rhaegar, to find this anonymous knight.
But the knight of the laughing three has disappeared, leaving only his shield...
It is more than likely that Rhaegar has discovered the identity of this mysterious knight, Lyanna...
And that he fell in love with her at that moment... Because...
The next day, Rhaegar will cause a massive scandal, after winning the tournament against Barristan Selmy, by crowning queen of love and beauty... Lyanna Stark instead of his wife, Ellia Martell! An Element precursor to the future "revolt of Robert"
Ser Barristan Selmy blamed himself all his life for not having "won" the tournament, because it could have changed all the story, according to him...
It is also at this tournament that the Mad King namedJaime Lannister to the royal guard (but prevented him from participating in the tournament, because his secret objective was to "deprive of his heir, Tywin", Aerys being jealous of his hand) . Following this act, Tywin, furious, will resign from his post.
Also this tournament is a pivotal period. All the events that will lead to the fall of House Targaryen have taken place here.

Lady Ashara Dayne was one of the most beautiful women of her time. She was Ser Arthur Dayne's sister and there are pieces of evidence in the book that suggest she gave birth to either Brandon or Ned's child who died in her infancy. I personally think it was Ned. She was a lady in waiting to Elia Martell who committed suicide shortly after the rebellion - after a visit from Ned who had married Catelyn by this point.

The interesting part about these history and lore videos, is that while they are part of the blurays and were released later, naturally most people watch them after each season, but they are in fact meant to be seen in the beginning of each season. They kinda pave the way of what's to happen in the current season. If you notice, lots of things that are mentioned in this video, in fact foreshadow things that "will" happen in season 6 which we have already seen, so it does feel kinda weird. For example Sansa wanting to unite the North and retake Winterfell, which she already has accomplished at the battle of the bastards. Weird ordering for sure. On the other hand some might argue that this might be "spoilerish" to watch early. Which I can partly understand, even though it doesn't really tell what will happen, more like what the characters "want" to do in the future.

I wish I could find myself as funny as Pudgey thinks she is, LOL. I LOVE the Histories and Lore so I'm not disappointed AT ALL. I'm one of the few people that apparently didn't have a problem with the ending of the show because I saw it coming. Not sure how others didn't but I hope you enjoy. You guys are pretty perceptive so hopefully you'll like it as well. Ice was melted down by Tywin to make Oathkeeper, which Brienne has and Widow's Wail, which was Joffrey's but is now held by Jaime. Ned didn't Stan Arthur Dane in the back. Meera and Jojan's father did and then Ned finished him.ns 4,6 & 7 are actually my favorite voices! If the last 2 seasons had 10 episodes like the others it would've been perfect, but they rushed too much and left some things unanswered.

The regarding who built old town is something that was never included in the show so this is not a spoiler... but in the books there is like a lovecraftian fishman race that probably lived thousands of years ago and build these old structures like the base of oldtown and also dragonstone. It's pretty cool and eerie. There are also some ironborn clans that probably descent from this race and because of this they have "webbed" hands
