- With a beautiful backglass, fantastic artwork and a cool theme, Gottlieb's Black Hole from 1981 was high up on my wish list for the collection. The 2 playfields add an element of variety and excitement and while it is not an easy game, I think it helps you be a better pinball player!
Really cool game. Played it some as a kid, then played it a bunch on the Wii. Cool rule set with a lot of interplay between objectives on the 2 levels. My strategy:
-Complete the lower level 3 bank twice to advance the lane shot to Extra ball
-Go back upstairs and collect EB
-Work on the Black Hole drops to get triple scoring downstairs
-Go downstairs and rack up bonus and advance bonus multiplier
-Get multiball!
Easier said than done of course
Yep, multiball is not easy on BH. Not as hard as Banzai Run...but still difficult!
The Gottlieb Collection Wii game had a twist that ratcheted up the difficulty. Completing a drop target bank downstairs would open the re-entry gate. But if the ball hit a pop bumper the gate would shut. So you had to complete a target bank again.
Yep, that's what made Black Hole very different than Haunted House. A lot of people don't like Black Hole because of that feature...and I wish it was an option that could be turned off with a DIP switch.
Why.. STERN owns Sega's pinball and I think arcade intellectual properties and copyrights..
So there's definitely a workaround.
Oh wait I forgot STERN own all of gottlieb intellectual properties and copyrights.
Imagine if Stern did a reimagine of HAUNTED HOUSE.
And add a bit of holographic technology showing off ghosts.
Not like pinball 2000. Apparently Williams is being really stingy with it.
But there is a workaround that stingyness.
Using Sega holliseum time traveler arcade technology.
Just a random thought that might just work.
A modern remake of Haunted House would be amazing. I can imagine that Jersey Jack could really make an incredible game if they ever chose to do it. I really enjoy original themes like this.
I would think and hope Chicago gaming company did revamps of medieval madness attack from Mars in now cactus canyon.
I really would love to see them do a revised on either GORGAR or HAUNTED HOUSE.
Especially with today's technology.
With all the spooky voices and the magnets that can screw up the balls because of poltergeists in an haunted house.
Just imagine the possibilities.
You're right. A modern original remake of Haunted House would be amazing if a company like Jersey Jack were to take it on. I hope we see some original titles from manufacturers soon.

Really tough game. More difficult that Haunted House by far!
I would say BLACK HOLE and HAUNTED HOUSE look like pretty fun games to play.
But the thing that is a bit confusing.
BLACK HOLE had the voice chip while HAUNTED HOUSE didn't?
They both came out about the same time right?
And really with the theme of A haunted House..
Should have really spooky voices coming from it?
It's a bit weird and odd.
There is an upgrade now available which adds speech to an existing Haunted House soundboard. It is a bit strange that they didn't include speech in HH as is was produced after Black Hole was.
Hang on to that TX sector, such a great game, been looking for one for a while
There's two for sale right now over here in Germany and nobody is buying them!
