THE STORY BEHIND 909 FESTIVAL
Ever since day one 909 Festival has gone above and beyond to put together a well-balanced musical program. Playing a major part since the early beginnings have been three simple basics; celebrating the pioneers, inviting fresh quality artists and supporting the locals.

The festival pays homage to the iconic Roland TR-909 Rhythm Composer that came to define house and techno music as we know it today. We created an online version of the TR-909 drum machine, making it available for everyone with an internet connection on both mobile and desktop.

I have been fortunate in my life to bear witness to this man's live power 6 or 7 times, each set completely different but with a common thread that defines his sound. Often imitated never duplicated, if there's only 1 techno artist I could listen to for the rest of my life, it would be Jochen Paap aka the one and only, Speedy J.
Wise words, I fully agree. Jochem is a king!
The way he composes his sets, taking you on a journey, is what defines techno for me. He takes me through every emotion, joy, happiness, pain, joy, love.

Speedy J. Every set is a reinvention of techno. You cannot explain techno to somebody new and not have them listen to this.
Speedy J never disappoints, what a legend. Hope to see him do another 5-hour set at Paradigm again once this corona shit is over.

I absolutely love that place, had the best night of my life so far in that massive upstairs factory floor area. Caught me completely by surprise too thinking the event I was going to was on in the basement room.

I love this man. IDK what it is but as a drummer, I truly appreciate every single little nuance he does behind the decks. His selections, his transitions, the improvisational elements, etc. Speedy J is Jazz incarnate but for Techno.
No one massages sound like Jochem. No one.
The sound of this entire set, especially the beginning, pairs so perfectly with the setting. The cosmic-like eeriness of the forest below with the spinning top of the tower haha.
I thought the same when I started to listen :) didn't know Speedy J plays this kind of cosmic-minimal-trippy-loopy techno. Now I know :)

Ginger was one of the first techno albums I bought.its still amazing.timless.i saw him live in 1997.public energy tour in Newcastle.he was fantastic.I had a Very nice conversation with him afterwards.what a very down to earth guy.he is easily in my all time top 5 Techno producer/musicians.. Quality.
Likewise for me man. Live or studio. He makes incredible music. Geordie's in the house.

Remember seeing all those years ago rocking the 2 yamahas su700s during his Loudboxer tour in Edinburgh. Studio24 was off the hook that night. One of my best techno experiences . Then again at "Pure" Top floor of the venue...OOOOFFFTTTT.

SpeedyJ... the mother of all creatures big and small. It was a SpeedyJ 909 kick that ultimately killed Chuck Norris. SpeedyJ is half robot, created by DARPA in the distant future where techno is the only language. Neapolitan ice-cream's three flavors are actually chocolate, vanilla, and SpeedyJ. This man is the alpha and the omega. Long live SpeedyJ

What a machine beast, as usual ! Thanks 909 to create these kind of events. Speedy J used to play more than 1 hour which obviously has more sense for his sets ; too fast in 1 hour to create his own risings and falls dynamics. But anyway, this festival is such a great underground scene !

Nice initiative, really cool stuff! Does the 909 on stage gets heavy use in one of these sets? I haven't watched them all all the way through, but I love a 909 being played on top of the music or solo.
