This weekend, Harrison Ford is back on the hunt for replicants alongside Ryan Gosling in BLADE RUNNER 2049, so Awfully Good Movies is going to activate a cinematic program from the cyberpunk genre that BLADE RUNNER helped influence: 1992’s FREEJACK, starring Emilio Estevez, Mick Jagger, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins! Yes, you read that cast list right: Coach Gordon Bombay starring alongside one of the greatest singers in rock n’ roll history and an Oscar-winning master thespian in his first role after SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. But don’t let that cast list fool you though, cause out of all the sci-fi movies set in dystopian futures, this flick is one of the silliest, with Emilio playing a race car driver in 1991 who’s saved from a fiery car crash thanks to Mick Jagger transporting him through time to 2009...only so Mick can harvest Emilio’s body so that his mind can be replaced with that of a dying millionaire who is seeking immortality. But Emilio makes a run for it, and seeks the help of his former fiancée Rene Russo to escape from Mick’s gang of “bonejackers”. (Yes, I know “bonejackers” sounds more like the name of a Sega Genesis game than a futuristic gang of bounty hunters, but work with me here.) Along the way, they’ll come across Mike the Cleaner from BREAKING BAD, a crazy bum who gives inspirational speeches about eagles, and a lot of dated computer visuals from the 90s which would look more at home in a Windows 95 instructional video. Plus, Anthony Hopkins pops up every so often to blather techno-jargon in front of a green screen and dream of what he’ll do with his paycheck. And while Mick gets to be in a sci-fi movie with Anthony Hopkins and Keith gets to cameo in those PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies, the rest of the Rolling Stones sit around and wonder why no one’s called them for any acting gigs. Have patience, Charlie Watts; your big-screen break will come sooner or later.

I love Freejack, I don't care what the critics say, Emelio Estevez is awesome!!
Saw this one when it came out too! Mick Jagger did a great job!
Yes me too saw it at the "flix"
I was part of the racing beginning of the movie with my race car, Emilio had just past me before launching into the bridge and I was first car (red & white) past the burning wreckage. It was quite the experience and took about a week and a half in two installments to film the 10 minutes of racing! Emilio was a great guy to hang with!
Whoa, what an honor to have someone from the movie commenting on my rinky dink review! Congrats on appearing in the movie, sir, you did some fine driving.
Thanks Jesse!👍🏻
Epic movie. Did you get to keep anything used on screen?
@@st0n3p0ny yes
I had this on VHS in the 90's. i liked the cyberpunk aspect
Freejack was ahead of its time, great writing...the special effects werent advanced yet to give it justice....mo powa babeh
oh come on, this is a gem of a movie. yes, it's no godfather, but its a perfectly good product of its time.
Why have I never seen a car accident like that in real life Nascar? Seriously I would watch it if it had those crashes.
This movie is a massive steaming pile. It’s so bad we love it!
Jagger hasn't aged in 50 years.
....I paid to see this in the cinema. I had forgotten it ever existed until now....damn you.
James Paterson Hey, remember that $34.50 you spent on tickets, popcorn, and soda taking your high school sweetheart to this movie in 1992? If you had invested that in Microsoft stock instead you would be number 79 on the Forbes list of most wealthy people today.
Never forget.
*NEVER!*
Mick's bad acting is creeping in your mind!
I've just watched the movie for the first time. Freejack is a classic.
2009 hahahahha we were so optimistic back in the early 90s
Saw this at the theatre back when it was released with a couple high school friends. It seemed so cool back then, and 2009 seemed so far away lol. We got a laugh out of Jagger's performance, it was kitschy. Estevez was such a hottie back then too.
That Schwarzenegger laugh nearly made me piss my pants 😂😂😂
I thought I dreamed this, in fairness I was taking a lot of drugs back in 1992 when I was 10.
Amanda Plummer had one of the best lines Iin the movie.. right after saying the good lord says to turn the othe cheek
Forgotten gem❤
I love freejack it’s a great movie
“I lied. He wasn’t even close.” It pays to have people actually like you.
In 1992 I paid a dollar to see this in one of those theaters where you could only see movies that had come out months earlier. Mick was definitely the best part of the movie.
Second run theaters they were called
So I was like Emilio! Yeah the mighty ducks guy!
Seen this in theater back then. I was 18. Still waiting to feel like an adult.
Freejack is a good movir and Emilio Estevez is a great actor
you are easily entertained.
That's an overstatement.
I seen him naked in loaded weapon 1😭 it was omg
This movie definitely looks like a remake would be justified! Also sounds a lot like Carbon whatever that show was called on Netflix.
This movie has so many problems and yet I still love it!!
Underrated movie
I remember catching this on tv when I was a kid. My grandmother happened to walk in at one point and commented, "Why do movies about the future always make it look like the Great Tribulation?"
An absolute HBO standard from back in the day. First thing that comes to mind: (close up on Jagger) "One Mississippi, Two Mississippi..."
That and the river rat
You forgot the movies "Soldier" with Kurt Russel which takes place in the BladeRunner universe. They also share the same universe with Aliens.
That's another little gem that deserves more love.
I miss seeing emilio in movies ...come back to the screen Mr Estevez.....we miss you....or at least I do anyway
A great underrated & underappreciated sci-fi GEM
I love freejack
I liked this film at the time. It's not perfect fine but was enjoyable. Critics were harsh at the time.
Always a guilty pleasure for me. OK, it is not very consistent and bearly cyberpunk but Mick does a better job than I expected. I liked how he became a quasi-good guy at the end just because he didn't like working for an asshole. The dream of every American....only makes sense that a Brit would actually get that chance.
Just picked up the DVD for $3. I enjoy it for what it is.
I remember seeing this via Laser Disc my parents rented it being curious I was excited since it had Sir Anthony Hopkins one of my favorite actors. After watching it was so so not very good not super bad just a by the numbers action film nothing really special
But Hopkins still provides a good performance like Sir Christopher Lee another of my favorite actors he gives a good performance even if the film has a bad script.
Thank you man. I watched the ending part of this movie maybe between 1994-1996. Never got to watched it again, nor knew the name of the movie.
Freejack is a fucking good movie
Emilio Estevez was and is a good actor
Anthony Hopkins is a great actor
i just watched it last night..i like freejack. i mean..if you judge everything logically i might never enjoy another thing ever again in my life. scifi films especially they are mostly stupid if you pick them apart and go all ncis on the story line.
Right on!
Truth be told I thought Rolling Stones performed the ending song until I saw the movie just recently. I must have seen this movie a thousand times when I was a kid and didn’t notice until I was in my 30s.
I saw it in theaters when I was a kid. It was pretty cool.
Scorpions hit between the eyes is amazing, and the movie had a music video before it on VHS. the 8 year old me loved this movie LOL.
A great bonus to the film. One of my favorite songs ever. Kicks ass. In the most delightful way.
cheesiest, balls-less sweet metal band of all time. the singer. barf.
I saw Mick Jagger and has to see this, lol.
Pretty unique, imaginative,movie.
Surprised it hasn’t been remade a couple times. As charismatic as Emilio is and as talented as Hopkins is, you could really replace them with other capable actors. In other words, it doesn’t take much “range” to play those roles.
What makes this movie work is classic story devices (albeit told in a novel way), action, suspense, editing, etc.
This movie goes so hard...cuuuuult classic.
Inexplicably, they used the James Brown sample in Star Trek: The Final Frontier as well, in the three breasted cat girl fighting with Kirk (who winds up in the "pool" table).
Anthony Hopkins was in Silence of the Lames and Freejack in the same year. Seems odd
Maybe Hopkins had to balance the karma doing something not so good
Mick Jagger AND David Johansson in the same movie
Only four of us understand, a sad thing.
I swear I seen Norm McDonald in the crowd when the guy was making the inspirational speech. He's there for sure have a look for some useless trivia 🍻✌
awesome video man. i like old movies again from your perspective.
Ok I was recommended this movie and based on this review I won't watch a second of it lol.
I have loved this movie since it was new.
That Eagleman speech is when I realized how dumb the flick was. Faison acted the hell out of that absurdity! I loved that moment! Also that moment of 'wtf is happening right now?'
president jacc - Freejack brought me here lol
I should use my credits to scroll up this cinema one weekend and check it out..
It was a good movie. Jagger was awesome!! A stones song would've been great at the end but🤘🍻
"Thanks Emilio, you just wasted a perfectly good amount of popcorn!" ~ Everyone who watched Freejack.
“The pressure!”
Because Emilio is a street fighting man
Love this movie
very nice movie
Mick Jagger as an Actor is like me prising a Laminate foor board off my floor and asking it to do bettter ..
Don't fuck with me, jesse. I'll take your word for it on David June-hanson
awesomely funny review. Dudelette, you are a godlette.
This is so frikkin funny. First was the Jiffy Pop, evil Dr's trying to kill the Freejack, then the popcorn. Never thought I would hear "I feel good" James Brown samples being used for car chase scene's. I never thought it would be done like that. You notice very unique thing's about the film. Very impressive bruh.
I loved Freejack when I was a kid. I'm sure it has not aged well.
I’m gonna see this movie now.
I'm just like everybody else a fan of free Jack what they should do is make a remake would that be neat
Let's crowdfund it! 😁
Oh shit, I remember watching this movie as a kid some random night
Hit Between the Eyes by Scorpions is a great end song
Within the year we'll be able to have AI re-do the song in Jagger's voice.
Boy, they had faith in Emilo
Haha I remember liking this
I saw Freejack on VHS 📼... I thought it was a stupid sci fi romp even in the 1990s. 😊
I can’t believe I’ve never seen this movie
Vast inequality, tech moguls becoming oligarchs, and environmental catastrophe? That might be cliched and a theme done long before Freejack but I wouldn't call it grossly inaccurate.
Mick Jagger is so cool when you watch early and early-ish Stones’ shit, that it feels weird to ever talk shit about him
Freejack is a good film. Not bad at all. It is very much of it's time but that doesn't make it a bad film.
Rene Russo is some GOOD SHIT AT ANY AGE.
I went to see this movie for one reason...Rene Russo. Nuf said.
!!!!!EMILIOOOOOO!!!!!¡¡¡¡¡ EMILIOOOO!!!!! HAHAHAAAAAAAA ¡¡¡¡EMILIOOOO !!!!!!!!!
Interestingly the narrator suXs I liked t,not sure what happened to it at the theaters
I loved this movie. I thought the premise was interesting
How did I missed this?
Rene can nibble my 👂
Lol mine too
Cars don't just rise 25 feet in the air even in high speed races.
Hey, at least I can stay awake for Freejack. I can't say the same for Blade Runner...
You can't always get what you want
So this the orginal black mirror
I dont know....Two Sirs And A Sheen sounds like an NBC show.
I disagree with some of what is said. I actually enjoyed the movie when it came out. SciFi is rarely reality. It is supposed to be far fetched. B movies are entertaining to watch. Comparing it to current special effects is not fair. Now I will say that I did not really believe that a Renee Russo type would go with an Emilio Estevez. I thought Mick Jagger did a good job with this film. Some of the cheesy lines and supposedly futuristic props and designs could definitely been better. But it could have been worse. Also in 1992 we were exposed to films such as: Mom and Dad Save The World, The Seedpeople and Memoirs of An Invisible Man. I prefer Freejack.
Yeah, I liked this movie. Even got the DVD. It could do with a remake with better visuals, and rework the script and dialogue a bit, but it's solid.
You should review this movie (because disney+ is doing the falcon and the winter soldier)
Buster has cool credentials from being the front-man of the New York Dolls
Rene Russo is so fine in this 😍
Saw this on the syfy channel a long time ago. It was okay.
I can't get no, satisfaction
🤣😭 nice video!
Plot hole in the meanwhile: If he was pulled from his car the moment before it crashed, why didn't anyone find human remains in the crash scene? Even in a worst case scenario, there would have been tissue, bone, or other evidence he was there when he died, did they transport someone from the future there to replace him?
Freejack was super cool. Thank Jeebus that there wasn’t a sequel. It was perfect. As for awful 90’s movies, don’t forget Tank Girl. That flick blows marsupials. ~_~
Im pretty sure the gun nun is dead after the nut check.
Fun fact is based on old book time killer
I cant get mi no, satifaction
