  • In spring 2023, Snowboard Magazine gathered a group of women snowboarders and went to Mammoth Mountain, California for a week of testing new 2024 snowboards. The goal was to find daily drivers, boards that perform well in a variety of conditions and make a great go-to pick no matter what you the terrain and conditions you ride this winter. The testers selected their six favorite snowboards as the best for the upcoming season. The testers agreed that the 2024 Burton Family Tree Hometown Hero is an ideal daily driver, with the perfect balance of response, reliability, pop, and quickness edge-to-edge. Go to www.snowboardmag.com to read the entire snowboard review and check out the other boards the testers picked.
The name says it all with the Hometown Hero. No matter where you’re from, this board is truly a quiver killer. It’s hard to watch anything featuring Burton team riders without catching a flash of the Hometown Hero’s signature blue base. Not only is this board a must for our testers Kelsey Boyer and Christine Savage, but it passed all criteria with the rest of the crew. It’s a directional freeride board with a medium stiff flex, and as the chunder buster of the Burton line up, it’s worth toting all over the mountain. Although the Hometown Hero has a beefy shape, proprietary features like the SuperFly Core and Squeezebox make it extremely responsive in initiating turns and rolling edge to edge. This board can pivot from day-in-day-out resort riding to backcountry booters on a dime, and wherever you want to take the Hometown Hero, it will get the job done.
The Hometown Hero was a definite favorite with our testers, thanks to its dynamic ability to really do it all. Icy snow? Confident edgehold. Steep terrain? Reliable and fast. Side Hits? Loves it all. Slushy chunder? Cuts right though. The crew raved about this Family Tree board on park jumps, enjoyed it in transition, and agreed that while it can hit rails, that’s the perhaps the only area it doesn’t shine quite as much. No problem, though, the Hometown Hero goes on everything else (and Christine and Kelsey backed it as their powder pony of choice), making it an archetypal quiver killer.
