    Great advice, but I've gotta admit the noise reduction wasnt quite as marked as I'd hoped - hows about using a schottky as the clamp diode? (if you can get one in sufficient voltage) as i reckon unlinear storage effects in yon diode contribute significantly
    I realise Schottkys arent availble in very high voltages, so maybe trying some substitutions (a fast 'soft recovery' type) might help?
