I’ve also noticed that when people say ‘straight hair is easy’, they’re completely overlooking the amount of time and effort to 1. get it straight, and 2. keep it straight. Neither of those are ever as simple as they say, unless the curls/coils have been damaged and loosened. It still adds time to the wash day, even if it’s just stretching prior to styling. If it’s preferred, fine, let’s just call a spade a spade.
@ *After it’s straightened,* is my only point. The straightening process involves a lot of time and manipulation and people like to skip over that part when they say it’s “easier”. Taking time to straighten/stretch extends the wash day process, is all I’m saying.
I agree! 👏🏾 Our hair is not hard. As an autistic elder, I must do easy and simple. I install medium to large twists, put it in a ponytail then wear a satin loc sock. I moisturize every 5-7 days. Every 3 weeks, I do it all over again. I don’t wear my hair out. Sometimes people be doing too much. 🫠
Doing less don't equate less effective. I keep saying this, you do not need a 10 step routine to care for your hair or to grow your hair. Keep it simple.
Exactly, I think some have this mindset that their natural hair needs many things done to it in order for it to be maintained/cared for or styled in a way that is presentable.
Such a brilliant, jam packed video. This is my stance, I will never ever wear/have never worn a straight wig on my head. Another youtuber said 'I will not promote someone else's beauty' that really got me. I have too much pride to basically show people with straight hair, 'your hair is superior to mine'. Never. When black women say 'women should be able to do what they want' of course they can but I would respond, isn't it so so SO sad when you walk about and 9/10 black ladies you see, are wearing a straight wig? Our beauty is being erased! That bothers me to the core, I wish it bothered more. And don't even get my started on women who refuse solutions🙄
Thanks for including my picture in your video! I agree with your message. I usually tell people that natural hair isn't "hard" to take care of. It's "time consuming". Those two things are not the same. I think words have meaning and power and when we speak negatively about our hair, we will look for all things to confirm that. We sometimes fall prey to feeling like we need instant gratification, but that's not how things generally work. I generally share my hair journey through my channel. I don't usually share product recommendations (not everything works for everyone, myself included) and my routine is mostly herbal DIY. I don't use gel and I'm not afraid of a bit of frizz. I find that keeping it simple works best for me. It's not for everyone, but it's what has helped me so far.
Think about: when anyone is verbally abused, demoralized for a long time, he/she may start to believe the lies; added to that, imagine persons in your family or community who should be nurturing are also abusive; the lie gets deeper. That same analogy works with hair texture and skin color. The persistent lies and degrading even the grading of hair texture are all part and parcel. Ruining children’s hair with poisonous cancerous substances; classifying “good hair” syndrome, name calling that are degrading and stigmatizing about one’s hair texture or skin tone = poor self-esteem, no acceptance of self. So each of us must love and accept our unique beauty. Thanks for your genuineness 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I’ve decided to distance myself from the ‘policing’ narrative and all content pushing that narrative. I refuse to ignore what I see in front of my face everyday, which is black women contently wearing whatever style they please without any pushback from women who wear their natural texture. It’s such a tired, baseless conversation that doesn’t reflect our everyday lives in the various black societies we live in. They can miss me with all of it.
I’m not brave. But I do have a RUclips channel that talks about natural hair, autism and our unique challenges. You see, I’m an autistic elder and life (and hair life) looks different from our perspective. ❤
I agree with everything you said here. This was a great video. I really love @notanotherjasmine. I think her videos are a whole vibe and she seems very genuine in her desire to spread and share love for our natural hair. I also enjoy making videos on my own channel. Full transparency a friend suggested that I create an outlet to show others how my own products work but really it's become a place for me to open up and share my own personal journey which has been pretty rewarding.
There’s literally no natural style that requires daily detangling…that’s all choice and preference.
I have come across videos of women claiming to detangle everyday and that had me raise my eyebrows too, there’s no need for that
When hair is at its healthiest there’s not much fight to detangle as it’s naturally tangled free

Exactly, say it how it is instead of creating lies to justify your decision to wear straight wigs🤷🏾♀️
@@denyshadials5702 right! my natural kinky hair is way easier than straight hair
Straight hair is not the prettiest, but it’s the easiest to manipulate for less skilled ppl
@ i would add less patient too

It’s difficult to take care of when you’re treating your kinky hair as loose hair.

Once you’ve figured out a routine, our hair is really straightforward to do 🤷🏾♀️
That last sentence🗣️

Ohh I follow Heal with Mare, I watched that video too😃 I also dont understand the ones who refuse solutions to their own “problems”

Yep, and it is a way to deflect and not just wear their wigs in peace.
The selling of hair products is so funny to me. We can literally buy natural remedies and get results twice as good 😂
Imagine! 😂 flaxseed, aloe, shea butter, cloves, chebe (to name a few) so many options for us to choose from🤷🏾♀️
@@MaNoZu exactly😁
I love these conversations ❤
I am happy you are enjoying them😊 thank you for watching
yup, my wash day is like 4 steps, 4 products 😂 I ain't doing all that extra stuff I ain't got time!
😂because theres no need for it unless your hair is damaged i guess🤷🏾♀️
Mine is 3 steps ….
