- Hows it going folks? It's been a while since I posted any sort of tutorial based content here. I've been writing alot lately and posting little 1 minute clips of tunes, mostly on instagram, here on occasion. I get asked alot by those new to recording how I write my riffs and drums, so ive put together a wee video on the process I like to use, starting off with a sketchy playthrough to a click and on to how to build the drum track with use of my MIDI pack.
In this tutorial im using GGD Modern and Massive as the drum sampler and my Ultimate Punk and Melodic Hardcore MIDI pack
If you are in need of some cool MIDI - Check out my stuff here:

Appreciate these kinda vids. Thanks dude ❤️
Never clicked a video faster. So glad to see you back. Love your stuff.
Cheers Adam! Much appreciated! 🍻🤘
I'm so glad you did this tutorial John! For some time now, I have seen your posts on FB about the collections of Midi packs that you have available but never quite understood how to run them into a DAW. I need something like this because I don't have a band anymore and I need to start thrashing again. I switched over to analog synthesizers and have been doing retrowave for years, but at heart, I'm still a total 90's skate-thrasher who grew up on Adhesive and Strung Out and I have wicked riffs that I need to lay down over that double time "Groove 2" beat. I just recently bought a Tonex modeling pedal which I can run that into Ableton and then with your beats, I'll be going mental. So rad! Seeing PMX, Hike The Peak, and Fair Do's still making this kind of music has been very inspiring and now, seeing how your Midi packs work is very encouraging. Love all of your work!
Cheers bro! Awesome. Get in about it. Excited to hear what you come up with. If you have any questions - just give me a shout here. Have fun. Cheers again. John
Dude, i love 1min riffs a week. But now we are going to need that Nolly preset lol. Sounds so good.
Awesome video. Super cool to see your flow. Thanks dude!
Cheers man! 🍻🤘
So good! Super excited for the next set of midi packs.
This is great- thanks. I’ve been starting with just a straight drum track and record my bass lines first. Then I’ll go back and adjust the drum track to fit better. After I record the guitars, I’ll go back in and tweak the drums even more by either replacing certain bars or editing them to fit perfectly.
These get me 90% there and they work absolutely great. Thanks!
Great workflow! Nice one. Cheers for checking out the vid and stoked your finding the MIDI useful! Have a great weekend.
Cheers!
John
Wow really interested in picking up this pack, the grooves and fills are top notch
Cheers Brandon!
Hell yeah man, good video. Always cool to watch and get inspired
Love seeing the process Chic - makes me wanna jump into Garageband 🤘
Cheers bro! Get it done! 🤘
Glad to see you again. ☺️ Great video. I have a few of your packs and it's super quality, I recommend! 🔥🔥🎸
Much appreciated! Thanks alot!
@@harcusaudio Thanks to you! And if you want to create new packs, I'm interested. 😁
Thanks for the insights.
Funny, my process is quite the opposite. Usually I write some drum pattern for the style and mood I want to create and then create a riff upon that. I ussually do this riff by riff, then copy and paste everything until I have an arrangement which is okay and then I'm adding the details. And ussualy I use a programmed Bass.
when are you going to release the pop-punk midi packs? thanks
Hoping to have 4 versions out by end of October. Might push the GGD and EZ/Superior versions out sooner as they are almost done. Cheers bro 🤘
I write loud guitar stuff and your midi packs take my songs to another level, so thanks man. Is it possible to preview the drums while playing back the guitar track? Im using GGD in Studio One.
This is dope dude, thanks!
Nice one bro! Cheers!
I cant copy and paste the folder on my ssd5. Its on a Mac
You’re a bloody demon at editing that midi mate! Bloody awesome what you’ve got going here. Also did you ever end up recording the LastOfUs stuff again, sure you mentioned it on IG.
Cheers Jack! Finished one of the tunes. Defo still on the to do list!
Can i use ssd5 free or do i need to buy the full version to use this?
SSD5 free works perfect! Cheers!
hi, how do you like that chapman?
It’s great bro. Played Ibanez most of my life - recently picked up this ML3 and it really enjoy recording with it. Great sounding bridge pickup. Highly recommend 🤘
@@harcusaudio thanks man! I like that model a lot.
