I would sprinkle paprika on top. Also my recipe for baked Mac and cheese calls for some dry mustard. I noticed yours didn’t I think the dry mustard makes it a little tangy. Yours looks delicious! Thanks for showing

My recipe is almost identical, but add richness I use evaporated canned milk for the milk and add a bit of mustard powder to cheese sauce- you don't taste the mustard but its gives it a more "cheesy" flavor. I love all of your recipes! Been a hit with the family!
Hey Tammy! Thanks for another great recipe! This is almost like how my mother use to make hers. She used a 16 oz. package of 14 squares of white American cheese in an 8 x 8 dish. She put the remaining 4 squares on top. Yum!
Mac and Cheese is my favorite comfort food! I make mine just like this cause Mama n Grandmaws n Aunts did! I don't use box Mac n Cheese unless its the Cracker Barrel brand! Its easy to make from Scratch! I make everything from Scratch! As a matter of fact, we're making it now for Sunday Dinner! I grate my own cheese up because its so much better and sticks to macaroni better n cheesier! Yummy delicious with my BBQ Chicken, Tater Salad, Turnip Greens, Baked Beans and Cornbread! My grandmother made wonderful mac and cheese from scratch. I like to boil elbow macaroni noodles and put chopped burger on top of the noodles when done. Kind of like Chili mac.

I only like two cheeses I’m not to much of a cheese lover. Tomorrow or Tuesday I will be making mines I put it off for today. Your plate does look good. 😊
I always make my Mac and cheese. I use 5 different kinds of cheese,1 large box of elbow macaroni, at least 2 sticks of butter or margarine, milk, several different kinds of spices.
Just like mom used to make BITD. Fetching new do too! And... chill it. Cut it into squares. Dredge it. Fry oh fry! Nothing better than deep fried Mac n cheese.
When you buy pre shredded cheese, you might have issues with it sticking to the noodles. An additive is put into shredded cheese to keep it from sticking together inside the package. I occasionally buy shredded, but I mostly use block cheese & shred it myself. And yes. You gotta have the baked on layer of cheese on top! Nice & brown! 😊
If you actually never have had a problem with pre-shredded cheese and never had a problem, I also don’t do a flour sauce because, my grandma and my mom never did, I though eventually started making a cold sauce with sour cream along with the butter and, half and half and, add some pasta water, and, I stir some cheese, lots in before, I add the pasta water. And, course, I put some added cheese on top, before, I put my first layer of noodles in the pan, aka/ I do one 2 layers of elbow noodles with lots of cheese to other than the cold sauce, and, it’s always turned out really good and creamy!
i always hear people say that the shredded cheese is a problem because of what is on it but i have never had a problem with it melting though i do shred my own just because i like to - but honestly i have never had a problem with pre shredded cheese melting in a bechamel sauce or adhering to macaroni

Even though my mom’s Mac and cheese was the kind where you throw in butter and cheese between layers of macaroni, then make a mixture of milk and egg to pour over it, I have to admit I think I’d love yours even better because of the creaminess and taste of cheese throughout. Tammy that is basically my recipe but I only use cheddar but in my cheese sauce I add a little paprika and I drain the Mac I dump cheese and I mix everything in one pot and after you mix I just sprinkle a some more paprika over the top the prettiest orange color I leave it setting on the counter before the oven yo can hear popping the cheese is getting up in the Mac I told my daughter the Mac and cheese is getting happy when you here the popping luv u tammy

I've used pre-grated cheese before and wound up with big cheese blob that won't incorporate. Now I always just grate up a cheese block. It works better in recipes and is a little cheaper compared to how much you get out of it verses a bag. Otherwise it looks perfect. Except it needs to be browner on top. Everybody wants to get a little bit of that dark brown cheese crust that forms on top.

Looks creamy but kinda greasy with all the butter. I have never had a problem with my cheese separating on me. I boil my noodles and then I put half in my pan and layer on my cheese some shredded and some I slice then I put the rest of my noodles and the final layer of shredded and sliced cheese and then I put my finger in the corner and I slowly add whole milk until I feel the milk with my finger. Sprinkle with black pepper. Put on the lid and bake middle rack of oven between 325. About last 15mins I take the lid off so it can get crispy on top. I bake about 45-60 mi minutes. I use mild and sharp cheddar sometimes I also throw in some mozzarella. I use a lot of cheese but no extra butter. I use corningware dish with lid. Not sure if that makes a difference. With the amount of cheese I use there's no need for extra butter. Everyone looks forward to it. No matter how you make Mac and cheese, it's always good. Old fashioned Mac n Cheese did not have 2% milk. Do not use pre grated cheese that has sawdust in it to not stick. Grate your own cheese. Its looking like its not Old fashioned at all.

Mustard is the secret ingredient to tangy Mac n cheese. The jarred stuff works well too, if you're out of dry mustard.
