The first thought that came to my mind when I learned these guys were remaking silent Hill 2 basically was "haven't the silent Hill fan base suffered enough?"
@@tarnetskygge it kinda did looking at the movie in a vacuum, i found it quite enjoyable, but in comparison to the original, it was not ok at all. snyder did not seem to have any understanding of the core idea/vision of the original, instead creating one of the early manifestations of the classic dark and edgy remake that entirely misses the point. like, its an entirely different movie at that point, just w the dawn of the dead name attached to it
@@louschwick7301 yeah I'd never say Snyder had a chance of surpassing or replacing the original masterpiece, but I still appreciate his remake for having its own identity rather than just being a slavish inferior copy. If nothing else, his opening zombie outbreak scene was pretty good imo.
Wild how this is less mechanically dense than Murdered: Soul Suspect, a game that seemingly appeared out of thin air like an eldritch horror intruding on reality.
Murdered: Soul Suspect is a an awesome $5 game! Entertained me on a day off once. Played through it in 4ish hrs, then 100% achievemented it on a 2nd play through that took under an hr. The Medium is kind of boring. It isn't bad, but that's about all I can say about it. It's fine.
For me, I do see the ending as implying that Lilianne is a burden. When the game makes it clear that its HER trauma which has manifested into something that is harming others, and can only be stopped by her dying, then for me its pretty clear that we're meant to think that the world would be better off without her. Blair Witch had the same problem, having a protagonist who will go on to harm others his trauma unless he dies first. Once can be a misunderstanding on our part, twice however cannot be ignored.
I fail to see the issue with that. It'd still work for the established story in this game. I severely doubt, you're supposed to view this as a happy ending ^^
@@arsenelupin9697 I take issue with it because the number one thing suicidal people tell themselves is that they are a burden on those around them and that the world would be better off without them. It’s a bit weird to have a game essentially concur.
@@garyking1986 It's a story in a video game - with ghosts and demons ^^ Are people only allowed to write stories, which concur with your moral viewpoints? God forbid, a horror game is bleak and doesn't come with a happy ending, where everyone receives therapy afterwards......
@@arsenelupin9697 What a reductive view of art and storytelling. Look, if a game wants to delve into serious issues that affect and traumatise people such as sexual abuse, depression, suicide, etc. then the least it could do is handle them with care. You’re actually looking at a story with these themes and saying “lol, it’s just a fun horror game.” This isn’t a matter of a game disagreeing with my own moral beliefs, I can handle that. This is a matter of a game repeating harmful rhetoric which could negatively impact at-risk people, and you trying to take a jab at me just for bringing that up shows your level of empathy on the matter.
@@garyking1986 You using cushiony language and appealing to emotions, is not enough to obfuscate your true intentions - at least not for me. You have answered my question: "Are stories, which do not explicitly adhere to your moral viewpoints allowed to even exist" with a resounding NO. But since it's all under the guise of "empathy", you are obviously in the right and everyone else has to simply acquiesce to you.......
Letting a SH2 remake to be developed by the devs who literally made a "if you're traumatized, you might as well die 'cause it won't get better" ending still infuriates me. This is why I'm going to be *extremely* cautious on how Bloober will depict Mary and especially Angela; I don't trust them to handle the subject matter.
It's wild the way they treat Lily vs her abuser, though. Since she was abused it let a demon kill a whole bunch of people and the only way to stop it is to kill her. Yet her abuser was a poor child trapped inside that couln't help doing things he didn't want to do, and then his spirit was sent away peacefully and the horrible demon was sent away too. Sooooo.... I mean, her abuser was treated much better in the story than her.
cant wait to see how these guys will handle SH2, the game with 3 mentally unstable people, 2 of them are suicidal because Bloober is basically like Zack Snyder, picking up random subject matters and throwing them into the product for the sake of being deep and profound without actually delivering the theme
Bloober Team is discount Frictional Games. Hell, the ending monologue in A Machine for Pigs goes harder than anything Bloober Team ever made, and that game was only written by Frictional Games.
@@lexmarovsky6667 Chinese Room made A Machine for Pigs but it was written by Mikhail Hedberg from Frictional Games. That's why I specifically wrote "that game was only written by" in my comment. AMFP is my favorite story from that creative team.
There are people that think you're a hater online for being suspicious of Silent Hill 2 Remake. Which is wild because Konami is about as trustworthy as that uncle in the family that is always down on his luck and always has a story when he comes around. I could write an essay about why Konami doesn't actually care about Silent Hill so I'll keep it short and simple: -They put pyramid head in literally anything other than Silent Hill 2 (if you know you know) -They lost the master discs for Silent Hill 2 & 3. - They didn't make a Silent Hill game for over a decade -They just happened to skip over the first actual game in the series in favor of the sequel everyone knows. Maximize profitability. (See MGS3 Remake for similar strategy). -They stepped out of the gaming market to maximize their pachinko gambling profits. And when Japan set new laws that threatened those profits guess who walk-of-shamed back to gaming with two remakes of two beloved games from flagship franchises? Konami. -Then... then they hired Blooper Team The people who like Blooper's games won't get this (I'd like to see just how many people, who have also finished the Silent Hill trilogy, have finished The Medium and enjoyed it) but Blooper does not absolutely does not have the storytelling chops to deliver that story of Silent Hill 2 with the subtlety it requires. They wouldn't know subtlety if it their masked up trauma ghost told them in the bargin bin silent hill knockoff zone.
to me it is a red flag that the demon nurses have been "nerfed" so to speak, you can tell what kind of people are remaking them; the kind of people who are wishing death to the developers of Stellar Blade
They also cancelled the Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro, and Junji Ito super project Silent Hills… also put Kojima in a locked office with limited interaction with staff and limited internet access.
Konami hired Blooper for the same reason they hired all those other western studios post-SH4, they are cheap. Konami is notoriously penny pinching, to the detriment of their final products. For all of the upcoming SH games, they went the same route as they did 15 years ago with hiring cheap and/or inexperience studios who will most likely be unable to produce something good.
They chose SH2 because it's the most popular one. The amount of videos here on YT gushing about SH2 far outnumber all the videos about SH1, 3 and 4 combined even though all those games are good with some things that even outdo SH2.
You should try Observer: System Redux. I think it's the best thing they've done. It was also Rutger Hauer's last appearance in anything before he died.
Oh, the clows at Bloober did not "take inspiration" from that artist, it was outright plagiarism down to some possible legal action, same with the design of the maw.
@@frankaliberti Lets see, countless copied mobile games, stolen art in layers of fear, rubber johnny in layers of fear 2, the previously mentioned controversy with the monster design in the medium... sounds like plagiarism to me?
AKA the game that blames abuse victims for what happened to them instead of the perpetrators. What did anyone expect from the clowns who made Dumbass Baby Simulator 2016(read: Layers of Fear). I'm telling you there is no reason to be excited for the SH2 Remake.
Getting a patent on a thing you don't do anything with is basically just so people don't take your idea and do something great with it instead you fumbling it into a mid-ass "game".
When people are going to understand that "low" graphic quality was a giant and important component of the atmosphere in these games? Remaking them in current graphical standards is so stupid and pointless. It's like taking subtle art and remaking it into blunt porn.
If they got someone else to write the Silent Hill 2 remake, I could imagine it being pretty decent, but it doesn't seem like subtlety is Bloober Team's strong suit and a game like that really need it
I just can't give a shit about Silent Hill anymore. The last good game was in 2003 and even SH3 was much more flawed the the first two. Horror lies in mystery and Silent Hill has been explained to death. There was even a game that puts the player in the house with Alessa during the ritual. Zero mystique. The well is dry. There's significantly more bad SIlent Hill games than good. One barely passable movie and one awful one. Terrible comics and more. People get so attatched to brands that they just can't let it die. It's just become a series of reconisable iconography that people are comfortable with and will buy toys of.
I agree that SH3 was flawed, particularly in its design. But I think Heather is such a strong character, that I really enjoyed the game and it makes up for the game's shortcomings.
@@fattiger6957 AT same time game had barely any plot beyond womanhood is scarry, birth a god for us. She interacts with like 3 nps in the entire game and just kills 9999999999 amount of enemies like it was doom, Game locations are uninspired. Mall, sewers, abandoned building. Amusement park was only used in intro.
silent hill's first four-ish games had immaculate vibes . that's what people want back . gameplay was always secondary to the absolutely immense vibes the games delivered
They had a somewhat interesting concept with the split screen and it was arguably the game´s main appeal, and they had to file a patent so nobody but them could waste it like they did. In cases like the Nemesis system and WB, it´s still disappointing but at least kind of "in character" for WB, but an actual game dev studio?. Whenever you see stuff like that coming from people like them you have to remember that they´ll say things like "We value creativity, making games is hard, being creative is hard" and all that blabery just to say "welp, no one gets to be creative with this, except for us that is", all that for something that not only they didn´t even pioneer but they also don´t have any plans for. No wonder Konami took interest in them. Also it would surprise me if they can resist the urge to make James and Maria as chatty as this game´s mc, the game has too many subtleties going on, can´t let the players figure them out for themselves, they are too stupid, they need us, the smart writers, to sit them down so we can explain everything, how else are they supposed to get it. How are they supposed to understand James, he sad, he guilty, so we make him look at the mirror while looking sad and guilty, can´t have a single instance where players have to use one braincell for themselves. Also the smart writers: "The girl´s name was Rose, she ded, therefore withering roses, get it? Oh yes yes, smart and original we know, creative even."
It would actually be a great move if the other characters, especially Maria, had more dialog and ambient small-talk. But, here's the important part, James himself does a shitty awkward job of carrying these conversations. Just a total limp noodle, deflating the mood like a party balloon. Reinforce the fact that, honestly, James is a pathetically lonely man, that doesn't even attempt to form any kind of human connection with anyone other than Mary. Maybe, as the game goes on, he starts to engage with Maria more and he shows glimmers of emotion and even happiness. Make it clear why Mary is so important to him, which is something that the original kinda faltered at. Which would make Maria's repeated deaths way more impactful to the player. ...But obviously, this would require good, subtle writing to pull off. So it feels kinda silly to even mention it in this context.
As a very literal-minded person who really struggles with subtlety and metaphor in stories I definitely prefer games/books/what-have-you where the message is very clear. HOWEVER. I'm glad there is media for people who do like subtlety and room for interpretation, and I absolutely do not think a remake of such media should change that. _Fuck_ Bloober team.
Yup I have zero hope for the remake. Honestly the lightening in a bottle take is accurate: nothing compares to going in blind on that game and coming out with confusion and feelings of disgust that silent hill 2 leaves its player with. Glad you let people know about the probably best option to experience it.
I am Polish and it just puzzles me that this game is set in Poland made by Poles yet everyone is speaking English and there is no Polish dub. This is even funnier when you consider that Holstin, a Polish indie horror game also set in Poland, will have fully Polish voice acting. And they have far less resources. Bloober just doesn't care.
This has been happening for a while, my fellow Slav. For some reason everybody doing games set in America, even if the studios are not American. Resident Evil, Metal Gear, Dead Rising, Silent Hill - Japanese devs Horizon Zero Dawn (and sequels) - Dutch GTA - British Alan Wake, Control, Quantum Break, Max Payne - Finland (though Max Payne 3 is made by the British) Like half of Mafia series - Czech Watch Dogs - Canada. I can understand why Japan and (to an extent) Canada set their games in America, but how did the rest become such сuсks I have no idea
@@steelbear2063 Funny you mention Mafia devs, because they've made Kingdom Come which is set in Bohemia and I've heard the sequel will feature Czech VO which is great. I always like to play in a dub that fits the setting.
I wasnt aware Bloober was "modernizing" the dialogue for SH2 Remake. Literally the best thing was just keeping the sxript exactly the same for folks to experience the story and see why its seen as one of the best survival horror games of all time.
I actually really liked The Medium. That being said, Bloober got solid creature designs down, but they are not really good at character writing. I know this is just a remake but im hoping for the best here.
THE PREMIUM MEDIUM! And yes, they got Akira Yamaoka to team up for the Medium soundtrack, but as seen in Origins, Homecoming, and Shattered Memories, just having him doing the soundtrack does not make a Silent Hill game.
Having Yamaoka do your soundtrack isn't some badge of honour. The guy will work for anyone who pays him. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, the man deserves to make money, but he doesn't really seem to care about the quality of the games he works on.
Same for Masahiro Ito - he seems like a nice guy who is very talented but openly admits he'll do anything for money, usually as a joke but he has been saying it a lot more recently.
I'm so happy others are finally catching up with what's going on with this remake. I've been sustaining insult after insult while trying to defend my criticism on the mistakes they've been blatantly making. Shows finally that the abusively positive about the remake are in the minority.
abusively negative don't you mean? I get you guys are haters, but what abuse? we just want the franchise to come back. you guys want it to stay dead and insult anyone wanting to bring it back. can't you guys just move on and let us enjoy it? go play something you enjoy instead, there shouldn't be any need for abuse. just because it's part of the in-game story doesn't mean everyone has to project it all the time.
Bloober is just too ham-fisted to tackle any of the subject mater they seem to want to use. From layer of fears "oh no, my wife is ugly now, better go insane" and the mediums "A demon made him do it, it was demons all along" I don't have much hope for silent hill 2
26:42 "walking simulator"...."it is a walking simulator" hey, can we say, that your whole life is also a walking simulator? 'couse you're not fighting with other people, and not hit them also, you're not killing any monsters - you just walk and solve life-puzzles. And you call it "LIFE" but you have a problem, to call the Medium - "a horror game". Double standards.
No matter how many terrible games Blooper has made, the wishful thinking Silent Hill fanboys will still jump down your throat for pointing that out. Personally, I have very little faith this team can produce anything of worth. If they were literally making a 1:1 remake of SH2, maybe they could make something decent. But they have already said they are changing and adding things, so I'm pretty sure the game will be bad and completely miss the whole point of the original.
Thomas parts were the only thing I really enjoy from this game, Im not happy with them doing the SH2 remake, it should have been a japanese studio who makes the remake
Yeah, I've written off the Silent Hill 2 remake specifically because of the Medium... it was already something I was skeptical about, but Bloober just... did not fill me with confidence.
@@bbbbbbb51 that is a hot take because the comparison is completely unwarranted, as they're two very different games trying to achieve different things.

I have a chip on my shoulder about Bloober Team since the first time I played Blair Witch the game (thankfully through game pass, I didn't give them a cent.). They took one of my favorite horror movies, a mastercraft of audio design and subtlety with its low budget and "play with the characters and audience's head rather than directly showing the horror", and they turned it into a Silent Hill 2 wannabe horror where the main character has PTSD, is depressed and feels guilty because of his tormented past. They basically built their image with shameless subtlety-out-of-the-window versions of Silent Hill and PT, every game they made is like that.
@@AndreaGoriYeah funny how they just glossed over everything else you said just for that petty "acktually game pass 🤓" comment. You're 100% right about Bloopers output just being "wannabe" Silent Hill shoehorned into every game they make, and then they actually get the rights to the game??? The poetic tragedy is SO REAL 😭😓
I must be blind, cause the medium from what i can see looks awesome and if anything SH2 is in great hands, shame it wont have this fixed camera cause it wouldve bern more authentic
i refunded this game on steam because i was falling asleep. i dont like walking sims very much. The story isn't enough for me to stay interested and involved.
The SH2 remake is going to be awful. I dont care does it, it's never going to live up to how good the original game was. I feel sorry for anyone who plays the remake first. I am very worried about the 'modernized' dialogue. Reminds me of how bad RE2r got for some of Claire's lines. I hate this already
Oh I bet the over-the-shoulder SH2RE is fully initiated by Konami. I can literally see them pointing at Resi Remakes, stomping their little corporate feet and telling Bloober to do the exact same thing. I'm honestly gutted that Bloober is responsible for the Remake, for the same reasons you are (and I agree with SH2 not needing a remake at all). I think they lack creative conceptual vision, I think they're pretentious despite trying to imitate nuance in their games. I think their games are not really "games", but only the idea of. Whenever I played their titles I was always left with this feeling "so when does the game start, when do I play?". And just how arrogant they have to be to patent this split screen thing, yet do nothing substantial with it themselves? It's useless, it didn't help cinematic direction bc 70% of time nothing happens on the left side of the screen, it's performance draining, it's barely used as a game mechanics as you've mentioned. Such a waste, really. Them saying SH2 elements aged badly is also pure arrogance, I'm not surprised at this point. Though honestly, I'm a bit sad Medium turned out the way it did bc you can see it came from a place of love for Silent Hill franchise. However janky and superficial, it had potential. If only it was an actual game.
I almost never drop a game without completing it. That was not the case with this game. Couldn't stomach the dialogue for an hour, much less 8. And it's because of this game that I have zero faith in bloober team to handle SH2
RE4 and Dead Space proves that even against impossible odds and expectations that great game can come from it. Not saying Silent Hill 2 will be one of them as well, just saying is all.
@@Sebastian-jo7bn You're getting Silent Hill 2 because people were praising those other "good" remakes. It sends a message to the rest of the industry.
If the message to the industry is, "We appreciate remakes of great games if they're faithful and novel." Than I'm totally fine with giving them my money. There are things about RE4 and Dead Space that I definitely prefer in the original but overall, both remakes are great.
Why people want remakes so bad, oh i get it ..the ps2 graphics is not enough for the "modern gamers" lol 😂 the muddy & the murkiness ps2 graphics ambience make so much scarier than remake RTX 4K max settings 😂, the experience not like the first time you playing it
Yeah, speaking as someone who had a VERY close call with an incident involving suicide, anything that has a moral of "unaliving yourself is the only answer" tends to be put on my shit list. @@chrisdiokno5600 Now you see, that's okay. A heroic sacrifice works because the person doing it isn't doing it because they WANT to die, they're doing it because the act will help others in the process. @@DinoDave150 Fair, on the note of RWBY, I think with the Afterans it's that Ascension is natural to them, and Jaune was preventing them from ascending, and the thing with him was that he has to accept people die and he can't save everyone
Why you people are having hope for SH2 Remake, the used familiar story that everybody knows... Boring. If i were you, ill stick to see what comes from the real silent hill continuation. SILENT HILL: F The Japanese ambiented game, that takes place in a SEA TOWN.
I saw a caption on that Jerma's video making the ghost kid bump on the wall a thousand times: "this is the same studio remaking SH2" and it just crushed whatever hope I had left for SH2 remake
I agree however have in mind bloober team isn't alone doing it, I'm sure they have people looking over them to make sure it stays faithful What i truly believe will happen is that it will be a CARBON COPY of SH2 since they will stick to just that, copying and adding a thing or 2 sprinkled which people wont like. Bloober hasn't done combat EVER, and now they are adding it and it is what looks worst of the game (Everyone says it) I think it will be a nice game, wont be RE4 remake level of good, but it will be enough to become commercially successful
This game had such potential but squandered it. The ending especially pissed me off to no end. Nothing was resolved, No actual ending. It just puts you into a situation and... stops, like it was the fucking Sopranos. Then there is the brief epilogue that adds precisely nothing to anything. This is the typical 'we have no idea how to end this, so let's just pull an artsy fartsy ending so we can go; it's art, we don't have to explain ANYTHING.' Hack bullshit writing. Just thinking about it infuriates me to no end and did not earn to use it. I dread the Silent Hill 2 remake, I really do. Wasn't Ascension and... what was it, Short message? Weren't those two enough desecration of this IP? Why does Konami keep outsourcing SH to subpar western developers who have never understood what made Silent Hill such a scary experience? Or horror in general? Fuck me this year just keeps getting worse...
the controls are too floaty and imprecise and the ending is a real downer. but i am still confident they will deliver a great sh2 remake as they seem to learn very well. the only caviat that i see for that remake is that it will be more flashy and mainstream. but that would be true to any studio doing it
I was ready to come in here defending Bloober giving them the benefit of the doubt, but that changed after seeing the game mechanic patent. Nintendo corporate doing it is one thing, an indie game dev doing it feels like it's actively harming creativity across the medium for no real reason.
its so disappointing they tried to do a game in the style of zdzislaw beksinski and still managed to make so many uninspired choices in writing , themes , and visual execution his work is so subtle and complicated in its terror , because it's coupled with a dreamlike , alien beauty , and for every painting containing religious or prophetic subject matter , there's a sexually charged or violent image . he's a seriously underrated artist even if he's still a cult icon . it's gross to see them patent shit for their lame game when they ripped their whole aesthetic language from a dead painter and then BOTCHED it . i'm not buying the remake , lol . and instead of playing this game , i recommend you learn more about zdzislaw beksinski and take a few hours to admire his paintings online .
Uh-Oh indeed. I've said the same thing so many times I don't feel like rpeating myself, BUT here we go: Bloober's supposed "care" for SH is just as superficial as Konami's, hence they got the job. The results? Results will be the same like the last few times, or worse.
While I hate how they were even given the chance to remake Silent Hill 2 considering their terrible track record the fact they've taken criticism from fans seriously and made changes accordingly has given me hope for the remake.
Well they shrugged off all criticism of the remake and blamed Konami for "preseting the game wrong" even though all the problems of the remake is in the structure and misunderstanding of the original, not the lack of polish(ha) or editing
@@purplebruh947 I don't like Konami but I do think that combat trailer was fucking stupid, so Bloober definitely deserve criticism for it too but for other stuff like James' new design it seems they've listened to fans. You know I played this game with my girlfriend. We took turns playing it and had a decent time with what we experienced. Had some decent atmosphere and good music. The story also had its moments even though it sounds like it ends pretty poorly. We never finished it. I think we just got distracted, we didn’t have any huge issues with it.
Software patents were always ridiculous. Copyrights, sure, but concepts like "a fighting game" should never be patentable. I'm sure if it was sufficiently challenged in court, they'd lose over this but... it's unlikely any studio would bother when they could just change their game idea instead. So, we'll be waiting a couple decades just like with loading screen mini-games. Also, I put my SH2 DVD in my toaster and it didn't run optimally...
In my opinion Bloober Team hasn't made one good game to date. It's all "psychological horror" which lack that all good horror games have: consistent rules.
The good: The story, graphics, and set pieces are great. The bad: it has major pacing issues, with long stretches of nothing happening. And it was advertised as a 3rd person action game when it is a point and click adventure game in 3d. The ugly: Then there is the internet hate train that makes it popular to shit on this studio because streamers expected Layers of Fear to be the next Amnesia, but it fell short. So now Bloober could solve world hunger and everyone would blame them for not solving overpopulation at the same time. Take this video: it can be summed up as "Bloober are not as good as Frictional Games."
It would be very easy for someone with a particular set of modern political beliefs to reframe SH2 as something about "toxic masculinity" or somesuch nonsense.

Oh fuck that's some good symbolism right there...

Man, you can't be less unsubtle when one of the characters is literally called "sadness". It could only be worse if it was called "depression".
We know what they were trying to say the messaging is quite clear
Just like in real life.

There are people that think you're a hater online for being suspicious of Silent Hill 2 Remake. Which is wild because Konami is about as trustworthy as that uncle in the family that is always down on his luck and always has a story when he comes around. I could write an essay about why Konami doesn't actually care about Silent Hill so I'll keep it short and simple:
-They put pyramid head in literally anything other than Silent Hill 2 (if you know you know)
-They lost the master discs for Silent Hill 2 & 3.
- They didn't make a Silent Hill game for over a decade
-They just happened to skip over the first actual game in the series in favor of the sequel everyone knows.
Konami.
-Then... then they hired Blooper Team
The people who like Blooper's games won't get this (I'd like to see just how many people, who have also finished the Silent Hill trilogy, have finished The Medium and enjoyed it) but Blooper does not absolutely does not have the storytelling chops to deliver that story of Silent Hill 2 with the subtlety it requires.

Now now, "You can't save them all, the game" was Disaster: Day of Crisis.
I hate the patent for the Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor
Comics were neat though

What's funny is Siren and Deadly Premonition did it way earlier than the Medium. And I think the Clock Tower games before that.
Yup I have zero hope for the remake. Bloober sucks tbh. Garbage games

If the message to the industry is, "We appreciate remakes of great games if they're faithful and novel." Than I'm totally fine with giving them my money. There are things about RE4 and Dead Space that I definitely prefer in the original but overall, both remakes are great.
More like Midium
Ew...Bluber
Why people want remakes so bad, oh i get it ..the ps2 graphics is not enough for the "modern gamers" lol 😂
the muddy & the murkiness ps2 graphics ambience make so much scarier than remake RTX 4K max settings 😂, the experience not like the first time you playing it
that game is pathethic as hell, it hurts to watch everytime i see a review
cope toaster boy
Yeah, speaking as someone who had a VERY close call with an incident involving suicide, anything that has a moral of "unaliving yourself is the only answer" tends to be put on my shit list.
Looking at you Gen:LOCK and RWBY.
I feel so bad for Silent Hill fans. That fanbase has to be top 3 in "Most Burned Fanbases."
Thoughts on the heroic sacrifice trope? IE character knowingly does something that will kill them to save others?
@@chrisdiokno5600 Now you see, that's okay. A heroic sacrifice works because the person doing it isn't doing it because they WANT to die, they're doing it because the act will help others in the process. It's just unfortunate that they had to put themselves in harm's way in order to accomplish it.
So yes, the person knows that performing a heroic sacrifice will kill them, but their death is not the ultimate goal of the act.
Everyone and their mother has had a few attempts bruh, nothing special.
@@DinoDave150 Fair, on the note of RWBY, I think with the Afterans it's that Ascension is natural to them, and Jaune was preventing them from ascending, and the thing with him was that he has to accept people die and he can't save everyone
@@chrisdiokno5600 But if that's the case then why did they constantly frame it as a suicide, especially with what happened to Ruby with the tea party.
yeah this game is caca, i do like the maw tho i even think its better than abstract daddy
Why you people are having hope for SH2 Remake, the used familiar story that everybody knows... Boring.
If i were you, ill stick to see what comes from the real silent hill continuation.
SILENT HILL: F
The Japanese ambiented game, that takes place in a SEA TOWN.
The medium is a incredibly passive game thats why i didnt like it overall ....but it has a really interesting story, concepts and ideas ...
I saw a caption on that Jerma's video making the ghost kid bump on the wall a thousand times: "this is the same studio remaking SH2"
and it just crushed whatever hope I had left for SH2 remake
Im excited for SH F. Ryukishi07 being the writer makes me very intrigued in how its gonna be.
I agree however have in mind bloober team isn't alone doing it, I'm sure they have people looking over them to make sure it stays faithful
What i truly believe will happen is that it will be a CARBON COPY of SH2 since they will stick to just that, copying and adding a thing or 2 sprinkled which people wont like.
Bloober hasn't done combat EVER, and now they are adding it and it is what looks worst of the game (Everyone says it)
I think it will be a nice game, wont be RE4 remake level of good, but it will be enough to become commercially successful
This game had such potential but squandered it.
The ending especially pissed me off to no end.
Nothing was resolved,
No actual ending.
Nintendo corporate doing it is one thing, an indie game dev doing it feels like it's actively harming creativity across the medium for no real reason.
its so disappointing they tried to do a game in the style of zdzislaw beksinski and still managed to make so many uninspired choices in writing , themes , and visual execution
his work is so subtle and complicated in its terror , because it's coupled with a dreamlike , alien beauty , and for every painting containing religious or prophetic subject matter , there's a sexually charged or violent image .
he's a seriously underrated artist even if he's still a cult icon .
it's gross to see them patent shit for their lame game when they ripped their whole aesthetic language from a dead painter and then BOTCHED it .
i'm not buying the remake , lol .
and instead of playing this game , i recommend you learn more about zdzislaw beksinski and take a few hours to admire his paintings online .
This is one of those “it should have been a movie” games
Even as a movie it would gail because its not subtle and it has bad depictions of mental struggles

Remake James: “What’s with all this fog? It’s like Silent Hill out today.”
Uh-Oh indeed. I've said the same thing so many times I don't feel like rpeating myself, BUT here we go: Bloober's supposed "care" for SH is just as superficial as Konami's, hence they got the job. The results? Results will be the same like the last few times, or worse.
More like... "Oh no"
@@iqbalfabianza3866 Yeah, well - it's already too late for "oh no"
I think they got the job because of their ability to capture atmosphere. Unfortunately that's as far as their skill set goes.
@@DementedView Pity that atmosphere won't last for long, if they really make James more... talkative
I just hope to god they haven't rewritten anything for the remake's story cause their writers are terrible and the medium is proof of it lol
@@SlurpyPie well they already did rewrite the game. Look at the Maria and James dynamic for example
@@purplebruh947 I mean that was to be expected but I was more referring to the overall presentation of the themes and hoping they don't change it so drastically otherwise it'll probably ruin it. It's wishful thinking but I'm hoping to god the remake is good cause I'd hate for Konami to pull a PT and cancel Silent Hill F.
@@SlurpyPie i mean they cant even make pyramid head right, look at how casually he moves in the remake, while in the original all his movements felt rigid and painful. I would not put any hopes up if i were you. Remake WILL be worse than the original 102% with 2% margin of error
Goober Team is going to shit up Silent Hill almost as bad as Konami has been.
This video will age like milk when SH2 Remake will be great.
Don't hold your breath man
Spoiler: It aged like milk.
In my opinion Bloober Team hasn't made one good game to date. It's all "psychological horror" which lack that all good horror games have: consistent rules.
The problem with Bloober doing a Silent Hill game is they have less subtlety that a brick to the face.
Is it a good game?? I mean, without comparing with sh
Take this video: it can be summed up as "Bloober are not as good as Frictional Games."

can't wait for the "remake" being a literal "rewrite" of SH2 where white guilt is what torments James.
It would be very easy for someone with a particular set of modern political beliefs to reframe SH2 as something about "toxic masculinity" or somesuch nonsense.
> literal "rewrite"
why is rewrite in quotation marks? what u are describing IS a rewrite. a literal rewrite. why do u need to be doing air quotes to mock the concept. i believe that u said "literal" when u meant "total." very poor comment.
and u are giving them too much credit. that would at least take some ambition. stupid ambition, but ambition nonetheless. the bloober ppl have nothing substantial to say about anything at all, the thought wouldnt cross their minds. wc is good to some degree, we dont need them to add new kinds of stupid to their already very stupid product. when i saw james' facial expressions in the trailer, i nearly vomited
@@fattiger6957 why would that be some such nonsense.
look at the abuse angela suffered. most abuse of such kind is committed by men in positions of power over vulnerable populations: women, children, prisoners, patients, serfs, slaves, househelpers, altrboys, etc. abuse of this kind as a topic is inescapably tied to patriarchalism, as it is what most often facilitates it and excuses it.
im not saying toxic masculinity as the concept exists in current discourse is much relevant to silent hill 2, as the focus is more on angelas experiences, and not why her father did that. but its very clear that its not "some such nonsense" completely alien to the story
i would even argue that its not an unfeasible angle even for james' storyline: he seems so lonely
toxic masculinity isnt just abt men being gross to women bc of dumb reasons, its often the selfdestructive kind, not manifesting as macho bs: part of it is that voice in the back of the minds of men and boys that tells them they are either weak if they need help dealing w their emotions, or undeserving of said help bc theyre men
sh2 is set around the early 2000s, before the mainstreamization in 2010s discourse of men and their relationship to mental health, so its not inconceivable that the toxic masculinity that creates hesitancy to confront ones emotions directly in a healthy way w/ the help of others could be explored as being part of james' whole haunting hollow vibe if bloober ever made the (stupid) choice to do some backstory (i think they will make that stupid choice)
so in conclusion, ur griping about over contemporary social discourse is quite empty and barren, as devoid of meaning as the remake will inevitably be
They are Polish. Out of all the faults you can attribute to them - being white guilt ridden сuсks is not one of them, that shit is for Americans and the rest of Western Europe

Just accept that we will never get another Silent Hill comparable to Silent Hill 1-3 or even 4. The good times are gone. Now it's just soulless -games- products with RTX and oversaturated "next gen" graphics where everything including characters looks like it was covererd with wax so it could burn your eyes with omnipresent "realistic" reflections.
I was already worried about that SH2 Bloober remake, and now I'm even more worried lol. There's zero chance of Bloober doing SH2 better than Team Silent, and since Konami fumbled the remasters so hard, theres a real possibility that Konami doing what Rockstar did and remove the OG games from online store just to force people to buy this remake.
They could of made a decent remaster if they just kept EVERYTHING the same. But no, they HAD to pretend like they know their shit. Like they understand the point and subtlety of original game
Let's hope the Silent Hill 2 remake doesn't make us sadness 😅
