The rapid release schedule is not a requirement. Sure, it might be possible to release 1/week if you are doing plain tech reviews, but the really interesting content cannot be produced that quickly, even with a small team of people (look at any of the big science youtube creators). Patreon helps *a lot* to fund the production when you are releasing 1-2/month. Having really unique content is what drives the Patreon supporters, and if you are charging per video, it's fair, since people pay for what they are getting. Burnout is a real problem, and I think the pace of development on youtube is too high, largely because of the algorithmic preference for things like a too-rapid release schedule.
Scotty, listen to Ben. His channel is probably the most analogous to yours that I can think of. Both of you have patient fans who are here to really SEE something. There's a hundred douchy guys making thousands of douchy videos that all have some hyped up take on some plain old thing that already exists. We like you guys because you bring us things we never even imagined was possible! And then you show us how you made it and all of the road blocks along the way. To those of us learning engineering, it's more valuable than you know.
Put in example, Mark Rober. He puts out 1 video a month, puts a good effort into what he does, does a REAL good job at it and it's a pleasure seeing those videos in my subscription feed. Having 1 video a week and more trying 1 a day, gets a lot of skips from me as I feel a lot (not all) are gaming the system to get views and produce 10 minute videos.
Scotty, take all the time you need. We subscribe for the amazing quality of content you produce and I don't care how long it takes to make, I'll still be subscribed and I'll still watch it when you post it, whatever it is. Keep up the good work and looking forward to what you have in store!
It's likely a Rode VideoMic of some variant... The audio is so good in the video because he's in a suuuper quiet environment outside with no echo, so all you hear is his voice and his feet crushing the snow
I am glad you are taking the time off. It's like mediation. Build in breaks into whatever system you use. Also, no man is an island. The key to building something bigger than one person is getting more people. God bless you and I hope you continue making great content, when you are ready. I doubt anyone will be unfollowing. You have a huge advantage. Your content is unique. You are a big part of that. I can see the frustration in your eyes when you can't get something to work and I see a kindred spirit. I especially love when you finally get something to work that was a struggle. I doubt anyone who has experienced that would unsubscribe. Good things are worth the wait.
Keep doing what you need to do man! We will be here waiting for new and exciting interesting videos! I'm not as tech savvy as you but it makes me more interested every time I watch your videos! Thanks for always giving great content to watch even for someone who does not know exactly what you are doing! I just love watching people make things work and or customizing things! keep up the great work!
I can't speak for others, but when it comes to Patreon, I don't donate because I want exclusive content, I do it purely to support the maker. I'd happily contribute a couple of dollars per video right now. Creating exclusive / paywalled content can just end up alienating your audience. Because the nature of your projects is inherently 'open', it might be a mistake to make exclusive paid-for content.
I couldn't agree more. I donate to a couple of RUclips channels because I like their videos. I don't need or want anything extra, and the whole credit roll thing makes me slightly nauseas. I supported a channel that offered, in a very open and upfront way, "Fu#k all" to their patrons of all levels. I was a bit cheesed off when they closed their Patreon campaign because they were, in their words, making enough money without it.
I was browsing through RUclips videos and suddenly wondered if you recently uploaded a video. Then I found this one. An advice, your channel is amazing, it differs from the bunch of other channels that do tech review, because of that kind there are already like a billion. What I found interesting of your channel and your way of explain things is that you do it in a way that reminds me being a child and feel excited to learn something new. And that's what I found special of your channel. So, please, take all the time you need and don't burn out, Don't let the voragine of these "daily video" channel eat you. I agree with a lot of people here. The videos you produce are some of the highest quality and most inspiring content I've ever seen on youtube. Other youtubers find a niche that's easy to shoot and just focus on quantity, but your videos are so much more than that. Most other RUclips videos are just mere entertainment and passing the time, but your videos truly inspire people! I enjoy your passion, creativity, uniqueness, and entrepreneur spirit. You inspire me very much. Please don't feel guilty for not releasing videos at a faster pace. Great things in life take time. I'm so pumped up to hear your plans! Have you ever considered selling some of your longer videos on Vimeo? In my case, I've always wanted to make youtube videos like you, but video editing isn't easy for me and I have a banned Adsence account from my first website building attempt. Vimeo is good, because it's more geared towards quality content rather than quantity like RUclips. I think having both would complement each other. Fewer videos could be sold on Vimeo (like special hour long productions that people would buy with maybe extra footage), while RUclips videos could still be awesome like they always are, but will depend on the amount of views. My hopes are to some day start my own LLC doing wed development and youtube videos like you. As an international studies major who lived in Korea for two years, I love how you bring humans from all over the world together through sustainable technology. I work as a Macbook/iPad repair tech now, so your iPhone videos really related to me! Keep on making videos from the bottom of your heart!
Your channel together another channel named Peter scripol are the two coolest I've seen so far on RUclips. Much respect bro. I'm Chinese currently living in Europe but I've got some friends working in shenzhen running diamond business or working in Huawei and other friends working in alibaba in hangzhou, let me know if I can help in case you are interested in those areas
Hi guys, does anyone had a response back from scotty. I have send him multiple emails about the job offer, but tills this day there is still no response from him. I know he is busy and I do support his content. But i need to know if he already found someone, so I can start applying to other jobs. Thanks if anyone has info about this. Have a nice day
Man, all of us needs some R&R sometimes. Don't sweat it. Besides your videos are always specific and full of content and educational for that matter. Its like you always bring something original to us viewers. As a tech-savvy individual, I for one am all salute for quality over quantity, and I think I have the right to say that your videos are more on quality rather than quantity unlike some YT creators. So its all fair and good whether you release a video per week or per 2 weeks or per 3weeks or a month or 2 months. Baia con dios Scotty.
The more you do the editing process, eventually you'll get faster and faster, but bringing an editor sounds like a better option for mental health. One that is much more professional in editing can enjoy the process, while you're enjoying making the content itself.
Scotty, Do what you love and please don't feel stressed about keeping a tight schedule. We will watch how many or how little videos you give us and will love it. I don't think you have the crowd that expects quantity over quality. 1 well made video that shows your passion is better than 100 videos that are made to meet a quota. Also take as many breaks as you need!
Take your time, rather you be happy with the quality and focus on improving what you think you need to (production time etc) than be driven by the youtube hand
No problem with decreasing frequency of releases, but definitely make the volume of your voice more similar to the volume of the music. The music is way louder than it needs to be.
oh, I couldn't think that you stop youtube. because i cant stop watching 'making iphone video' repeat. that is already perfect to us. its very enough to me lolol overflowing. plz more making another many creation for us next time! I always cheer strange parts!
Take your time, yo! Some people will never understand that 60 secs YT video can take easy a day to edit ( not mentioning shooting footage for that 60 seconds ). If you do it alone, research, shoot, edit, maybe a voice over, it is like job for few people ( small team ) with monthly budget, which you dont have. I prefer quality over quantity all the time and I do like all your videos. I would watch even a video about peeling potatoes, if you will be the person peeling that potatoes. Challenge accepted, right?
Please don't try to push it. I much rather watch a quality video with in-depth stuff coming out once a month than see a daily "I bought this dingbong and it's fun".
Cool update. Please, with all your ideas, I hope you don't just jump to the next Apple product. I like what you have done with the iPhone videos, and hope you can incorporate other technologies and brands besides Apple. Good luck in 2019!
Part of the channel is challenging Apple's ideals. Other companies generally aren't as restrictive. While yes, I would like to see him poke around with other technology, I also see him still making original content with Apple products.
There are 2 channels that I really don't care how often they post videos, Strange Parts, and Applied Science because I know that when there is a video by them there is a 99% chance that I will LOVE IT! How about this, Scotty takes a while off to build up some backlog and then he can post some of those videos in large breaks when he is filming some 3 month long video. Also I know that part of the more regular posting is just because if you havn't watched a video by a creator in over a month and the creator puts a new video out RUclips is like "well they havn't really watched anything by them in a while so I don't really know if they care about them. Let's recommend a video they watched part of yesterday by a creator that posts daily because we know they liked that because they were watching it more recently." Never mind that you have watched Scotty's whole library or that you stopped watching the video yesterday because you didn't like it, you wouldn't have clicked on the video in the first place if you weren't interested, NOW WATCH THIS YOU FLAPPING HUMAN!!!!!
I'd prefer quality over frequency which your videos already provide. Don't stress about frequency brother. Take it easy. You are one of my most favorite RUclipsrs.. keep up the great work. You inspire me! And oh yes, you can call us "Strangers"... Hahah.. Will always support you in every possible way. We need this channel to be even bigger.
@1000 subscribers without vid Hahah, no buddy. I have enough work on my plate at the moment ;-) Would love to work for him but not really capable to help him in any way at the moment :-)
I somehow liked to think the erratic upload schedule added more to the video's special charm - some form of scarcity and rarity, sacrificing frequency of upload for quality.
A Random Guy agreed! I found his first video made when it had barely any views and his sub count was maybe 1k? I enjoy his content because I love building things (used to own a shop building custom cars) but rheumatoid arthritis messed my hands up so I satiate those desires to make I have by watching stuff like this.
Yes, all the ‘you need to be regular uploader’-stuff is not for all the type of video’s. A new strange parts adventure is just worth the wait. If you would be doing ‘another S10 review’, yeah you would need to be regular uploader.
Damn I didn't know you stopped, videos were always somewhat spaced out, so I assumed you just hadn't made any new ones recently. Love strange parts, can't wait to see some new stuff
Think about it from a business perspective. 24 is enough for the audience, but it sounds like he's thinking more grand. Linus Tech Tips is huge; I get the sense he's aiming for something like that (large staff, lots of projects, big budgets).
Damn I watched the first vid and concluded (oh its fine cinematography, its the content that matters and he is shooting and editing all by himself) but now its going to be a professional media production!!? Goodluck and I wish you well on this channel
It's the number one issue as a RUclipsr. Doesn't matter what the content is, how much time or money it takes to make or anything like that. Burn out happens to everyone. I've been posting regular / full time content on RUclips since 2012, and taken many breaks. The sad reality is, the breaks can harm your channel, and so even when you're taking breaks from being burnt out it can still be stressful. RUclips's algorithms are a cruel mistress. Anyway hopefully you'll come back strong with the upcoming content, dude. Enjoy the break!
@@Q_QQ_Q unless you use other social media to remind your followers you are back in the game. That is why youtubers should use twitter, instagram etc. But I agree the youtube algorithm is not in content creator's favour.
A quality video is far, far better than many low quality videos just to fill the channel. Your output is always a highlight for me, something I really look forward to viewing.
So early there's only 1 view! Having watched the video, I just wanna say your mental health is more important than producing videos, good on you for taking a break when you needed one.
It’s crazy to see how many comments are telling (/commanding) you to do specific NEW things- in response to a video about burnout. “Great video. You should start making videos about...” 🤦♂️
crazy how these people made him who he is and got him to be able to do these things in the first place.. kinda sucks when he decides to stop doing it because he doesn’t want it
Very awesome, honest video. Burnout is real and unless you're a good actor, fake enthusiasm is just not the same. Thank you for posting. Edit: I don't think most viewers grasp how time consuming and thought intensive the editing process can be.
The rapid release schedule is not a requirement. Sure, it might be possible to release 1/week if you are doing plain tech reviews, but the really interesting content cannot be produced that quickly, even with a small team of people (look at any of the big science youtube creators).
Don’t pump yourself, love the videos don’t need them to be regular - they got me started tinkering with my old iPhones and macs.
The more you do the editing process, eventually you'll get faster and faster, but bringing an editor sounds like a better option for mental health.
One that is much more professional in editing can enjoy the process, while you're enjoying making the content itself.
Keep it easy Scotty, your videos are worth it , no need to fret , take time and dont burn out
ok, here is the deal: if you release videos on a more frequent basis, I will defintly watch more of your videos frequently. That's a winwin
" Strange Allegiant " Now that's living life let's not forget what you saw.
you can definitely make some travel videos, your video and edit qualities are good
As a relentless introvert, I wish you luck!
I really dont understand why people bother to dislike videos like this. I mean what part of this video actually offends you?
Quality over quantity, my dude. We'll be here.
Glad to have you among the BAT/Brave registered publishers! Just left you a first tip.
Man spend your time with family,
Family first.
We always love you.
Congrats on passing a million subs
Nice to see you again! I enjoy your strange parts video.
Take your time, rather you be happy with the quality and focus on improving what you think you need to (production time etc) than be driven by the youtube hand
We are all Strange Participants.
BEst of luck for whatever you may have planned
Please don't try to push it. I much rather watch a quality video with in-depth stuff coming out once a month than see a daily "I bought this dingbong and it's fun".
Cool update. Please, with all your ideas, I hope you don't just jump to the next Apple product. I like what you have done with the iPhone videos, and hope you can incorporate other technologies and brands besides Apple. Good luck in 2019!
Part of the channel is challenging Apple's ideals. Other companies generally aren't as restrictive. While yes, I would like to see him poke around with other technology, I also see him still making original content with Apple products.
We can wait bro, take a break and enjoy life! Burnout sucks :)
Fuck that, I need content!
Rookii 100% agree . we all need a pause sometimes
Your the man! I enjoy your videos
asking why you continue..when it was the burn out sign cause?=
I'd prefer quality over frequency which your videos already provide. Don't stress about frequency brother. Take it easy. You are one of my most favorite RUclipsrs.. keep up the great work. You inspire me!
And oh yes, you can call us "Strangers"... Hahah..
Will always support you in every possible way. We need this channel to be even bigger.
This is wholesome
"Strange Bits"?
Haha - I love "Strangers"! Because then I can say things like "Hi there Strangers - Scotty from Strange Parts here again"
I was going to comment too but you said my words. Thanks brother.
@1000 subscribers without vid Hahah, no buddy. I have enough work on my plate at the moment ;-)
Would love to work for him but not really capable to help him in any way at the moment :-)
What I like about your videos is, like in the beginning, that they arent frequent! Quality over quantity!!!
+1
I somehow liked to think the erratic upload schedule added more to the video's special charm - some form of scarcity and rarity, sacrificing frequency of upload for quality.
A Random Guy agreed! I found his first video made when it had barely any views and his sub count was maybe 1k? I enjoy his content because I love building things (used to own a shop building custom cars) but rheumatoid arthritis messed my hands up so I satiate those desires to make I have by watching stuff like this.
I’m a video editor and I’m actually moving to the Bay Area in the coming weeks soooo we need to talk SP!
Yes, all the ‘you need to be regular uploader’-stuff is not for all the type of video’s. A new strange parts adventure is just worth the wait. If you would be doing ‘another S10 review’, yeah you would need to be regular uploader.
Exactly, and Scotty has more subscribers than HardwareCanuck which I noticed a few days ago.
No worries amigo. Take care of yourself. We can wait.
Rero Rero Rero
Rero Rero Rero
Rero Rero Rero
Rero Rero Rero ...
Take your time bro
Damn I didn't know you stopped, videos were always somewhat spaced out, so I assumed you just hadn't made any new ones recently. Love strange parts, can't wait to see some new stuff
succy succy
Added you to my Brave auto publisher list and gave some BTC. :)
You rock, thank you!
24 videos a year is plenty
Yeah, especially given all the work and knowledge that it takes to work on the types of projects he does.
The background to this video is spectacular.
Take all the time you need. Quality over quantity... Just enjoy your time
Exactly!!
200% no one else does videos like this. It gets the tinkerer in me hard solid!
Enjoy the break!
if you don't post regularly then RUclips algos starts ignoring you .
@@Q_QQ_Q unless you use other social media to remind your followers you are back in the game. That is why youtubers should use twitter, instagram etc. But I agree the youtube algorithm is not in content creator's favour.
@niki123489 RUclips has now changed to big corporation friendly policies or corporations have taken over RUclips .
A quality video is far, far better than many low quality videos just to fill the channel. Your output is always a highlight for me, something I really look forward to viewing.
24 quality videos is far preferable to 365 shitty vlogs.
So early there's only 1 view!
Having watched the video, I just wanna say your mental health is more important than producing videos, good on you for taking a break when you needed one.
Jack F I can only agree to Jacks words. 👍
RUclips has been showing the number of views incorrectly in many channels all weekend.
@@mikem.9197 Sometimes it gets a little confused haha, it does it a lot. At least there wasn't 1 view and 2,000 likes - I've seen that before!
Nothing says Grandfather like, "check my gutters while you are up there"
It’s crazy to see how many comments are telling (/commanding) you to do specific NEW things- in response to a video about burnout.
“Great video. You should start making videos about...” 🤦♂️
crazy how these people made him who he is and got him to be able to do these things in the first place.. kinda sucks when he decides to stop doing it because he doesn’t want it
"Strange Partners" sounds good to me :) -- Take care of yourself and I'm glad to see you're recharging and have a good action plan for your channel!
strange partners sounds like a sex tourism channel
@@Grant-ei7ms thank you for saying what I could not
@@Grant-ei7ms :D
was going to say the same! im glad hes taking time off and im excited to see what the future holds for SP :D
Enjoy your break!
Love the channel.
Quality......not quantity is always best:-)
Take your time and actually enjoy yourself. We love your content because of your enthusiasm and your personality. We will wait for that!
Take your time and recharge and refresh, we can wait for your awesome videos.
We, we are the Parts in Strange Parts :)
asian fetish
Why we don't have more people like you ??
_So much hype in one video OMG !!_
i love this show!
Very awesome, honest video. Burnout is real and unless you're a good actor, fake enthusiasm is just not the same. Thank you for posting.
Edit: I don't think most viewers grasp how time consuming and thought intensive the editing process can be.
You are so humble. I Love it.
