This car is in amazing condition (especially the interior)! Being Canadian, I remember them when I was growing up and how clever the back light arrangement was. BTW, the '59 Olds has widely separated headlights as well.

    Hey Alex😃
You should enter this gorgeous auto in some car shows!! My Daddy's first car was an Aqua & White 57 Chevy. He put an AC in it when Momma was pregnant with me for the Texas heat. He would have to take me & set in it with it running for 5 minutes each night for me to fall asleep as a baby cause I got spoiled to the car🤣
Then His next car was a Long Two toned Peach & White Mercury with chrome & the cool wing tips. I was 4 & had 2 baby brothers by then. I loved that car! The back set was so comfortable even with my brother's car seat in the middle. I fell asleep every weekend on our trips to My grandparents houses on Saturday & Sunday. Only Daddy would just carry me already sleeping into the house😂
That Mercury mesmerized me & was my favorite car growing up, My first car was a Ford Maverick...not as cool as my Daddy's 😜
Daddy also had a Metallic Emerald Green 1949 International Harvester Pickup Truck that was so awesome!! Starting when I was 6 , on Friday nights my Daddy's baby brother who married my Momma's baby sister & their 2 kids would come over. Daddy & my Uncle would take us kids up to the 50's style Hamburger joint with car hops to grab some burgers & fries. We kids loved riding in the back of the truck & having a truck picnic 😍 and a lot of times a drive-in movie afterwards . Awe..... the Good Ole Days when life was simply sweet & carefree 😘

I actually think the new cafe plan a much better idea. Having an extra employee, having equipment that meets health codes, dealing with equipment breakdowns, having inspections & more would have made this a non-profitable endeavor. Having quality products available via vending machines and a seating area is very workable and achieves the general purpose for the "cafe."

I really love your car episodes most of all. The 1950's to 60's Canadian versions of the American car companies are truly unique. Many times Mercury's were just dressed up Fords. These Canadian cars added so many more pieces of "wild looking" trim that makes them even more desirable today. You seem to buy many cars and because of the nature of your business they just become a pass through to the next owner. KEEP THIS CAR! Rarely do you find a car in this kind of condition and with this kind of look. You will never find another car like this ever again. This would be great to take to some car shows and on some of your buying trips (big trunk). What else can I say...........KEEP THIS CAR! I would like to see more of this car. Great episode. Thanks

That's why you have that enormous steering wheel - to make it easier to turn. I can only imagine how much that thing weighs with all that steel and chrome! It must take real muscle to turn, even with the big steering wheel.

    • @phillee2814
      @phillee2814 3 года назад

They did at least stop you scrubbing the tyres by turning the steering when stationary - and as soon as you got it moving even slowly, they turned ok. I used to drive an old Volvo F86 24 ton truck with no power steering (and a flatbed, which meant the joys of roping and sheeting all the loads).
6 gears in high and six more low and the range change worked in reverse, too.
The time the Armstrong steering really sucked was if you lost a tyre. Both hands heaving on one side of the wheel to keep straight as you stopped.
Then I moved up to full-sized Class 1 semis, and got my baptism of fire working as a night shunter and a supermarket distribution centre. Once you can pick up a short trailer (longer trailers are easier) and reverse it at 30mph along the yard and turn it straight onto the correct door within 3", no reversing holds any terrors.
The first car I had with a brake servo, I disconnected it, as it was too sensitive. I could lock the wheels even without the servo.

What a beauty! You may need to double the size of your new garage. Back in the 60s we would go for long drives with the six of us. We drove from Alaska through BC to Washington State. Us little kids would lay in the back window ledge. We had such a good time with all the room in big comfy cars.

What a cool car! I had a 1961 Ford Galaxy (American) with that same color paint job and tiny, wicked fins. All the chrome on your car is beautiful!

Awesome 61 Mercury! What a find with only 43k miles! It's like a new car and your back in the 1960's! Thanks for doing a video of it and sharing it with everyone! Take care.

Sweet ride! I would say replace the 2 fuel lines, one at the pump and the other at the fuel tank. And all the Coolant hoses (Rad & Heater) and thermostat, flush system and add 1 gal full strength engine coolant.

Alexander, you might want to pick up a couple of bottles of additive for the gas because of the fact the cars were designed for leaded fuel, and flat tappet cams are in need of the extra care. Not a lot of dinosaurs in our gas today. One guy runs Rotella 15-40 in older cars because the oil contains elements not found in more modern blended oil. Cheers.

The recommended additive for vehicles with flat tappet cams is ZDDP (zinc), since most modern oils have eliminated it (sans some diesel oils), due to concerns with the zinc poisoning converters.
He'd have to drive it an awful lot for there to be concerns of valve seat issues due to the lack of leaded fuel being commonly available. Personally, I believe the "lead substitutes" on the market today are nothing but snake oil. No way a petroleum based product is going to act the same way as tetra-ethyl lead. Drive it till the valves sink, then install hardened seats in the heads if it doesn't already have them.

@@erikj.2066 I'm running Valvoline VR1 20W-50 in my MGB, it has zinc in it and gives me the tappet protection I need.
