This is beautiful. It just puts twisted mad science into sound. It feels so sleek and sterile. So unfeeling. So machined. Feels as icy cold as your running blood every second you're down in this demented dungeon of technology beneath Raccoon City.
I don't know why, but for some reason, whenever I hear this song and cross this level, the first Alien movie comes to my mind. It feels like I'm in that kind of spaceship, desolate, eerie, dark, claustrophobic, silente... I really can't explain why I get that feeling.
You just explained the feel of this amazing soundtrack perfectly... This and Concrete Bound from RE1 are such perfect tunes for these equally twisted, but different laboratories... Nothing beats the original trilogy in terms of survival-horror's soundtrack...
It is unbelievable how this soundtrack was able to perfectly capture the subtle nuances of the atmosphere and the abstract ideas behind it. This piece feels very cold, detached and uncanny. Absolutely perfect
the lab in remake just isnt the same without this. This song really pushes the idea of an unspeakable evil lurking just beneath everyones feet where they live, sleep, and die.
yes, whoever composed this track really nailed it. This track fits perfectly with something that is malevolent, evil and hidden away. Japanese games always had excellent soundtrack to accompany their games, some of the best ambient music were from silent hill and early resident evil games.
unfortunately changing the music to its Original doesn't give the same vibe as the metallic and industrial look of the Original RE2... but RE2 remake was good
I found this lab to be even scarier than the one beneath the Spencer Mansion. This one was much larger, had more monsters, more moments that made you jump out of your skin and a higher probability of death before you faced that final boss. The soundtrack during the first Resident Evil was creepy, but also quite relaxing, but this was just plain spine-tingling, through and through.
It’s a Thursday night, and I have this music playing on the surround sound. Lights are off, bedroom window is wide open, the beautiful post-sunset blue gradient sky is still visible, street lights are on, and the lovely summer night’s breeze is bursting into the room. Wicked vibe.
Playing this game in 98 was just amazing and even still to this day gives chills down the spine. This for me is the best music in any resident evil game. The re2 remake soundtrack swap makes the game so much more better, especially this part in the lab. Pure genius.
Naoshi Mizuta is such a fantastic composer, going from his supreme melodic works to such atmospheric soundtrack like this.. I plan on playing through all the games he has composed for!
i've played re2 music for halloween the last 3 years and will play again oct 2019. I turn off all the lights, stand in my garage with the candy and see who's brave enough to walk in to get some.
the layers of this track are astounding. the deep chord progression being so prominent to remind you where you are; in a hole. its dim, cold and reeks of sweet rot of dead bodies and whatever unrecognizable odors produced by the creatures lurking around. this track really sounds like your brain trying to fill in the blanks of what your eyes cant process in the shadows. not many will make it out alive and the ones that do wont come back the same.
If I was to describe the different tones of all the main classic Resident Evil games, before RE4, I think it would be these words: *RE0 and RE1--* The traditional Gothic Horror style, with creepy mansions out in the middle of the dark foggy woods, rooms that look like they could have werewolves/vampires/ghosts inhabiting them, and secret underground laboratories, full of disturbing stories of crimes against humanity and tampering with nature, which practically scream "Frankenstein." *RE2--* What the other guy said, about it feeling more like a thriller about top secret government stuff, with also a little more emphasis on the sci-fi aspect of RE, making it feel like an "Alien" movie. *RE Nemesis--* A much more militaristic feel, with an added "Terminator"-like vibe, since you are running from a hulking slasher villain, through a series of explosive action scenes, in an urban environment. *RE(3): Code Veronica--* This installment feels like one of those movies that Tim Burton either created or influenced (such Coraline), with its combination of a creepy macabre aesthetic, an aristocratic elegance, and child-like fantasy imagery to make something very disturbingly surreal. As a side note, I prefer to give Code Veronica the title of RE3, since that one progresses the franchise's story in major ways, was planned to be marketed that way from the start, and tried more new things with the gameplay, while RE Nemesis feels more like an expansion pack to RE2 that copies the same gameplay just with a few improvements, a different set of locations in Raccoon City, and subtle changes in tone.
Of course, back then, with the limitations of early consoles technology, a well crafted soundtrack was vital for a game's overall atmosphere... That's also why in 90% of cases, and i'm possibly even conservative here, soundtracks from 90s and early 2000s videogames are much better, more iconic and unforgettable than today's ones...
This is an incredible piece of music. Deceptively calm, then builds up to anxiety inducing stress, and then steadily tapers off into ambience again. Much like the game itself. It's among the best horror music I've heard, game or film. I find it strangely relaxing just to listen and I come back to it quite a lot. Unlike all of the Resident Evil 1 soundtrack which just terrifies me still!
Or an eerie, spaceship looking place. I don't know why, but this song makes me think of Alien: The 8th Passenger. I really feel like I'm inside Nostromos or a very similar spaceship, isolated from the whole universe and I just want to get out of there, but I can't.
I actually had this theme in mind when I was exploring this one Asylum called Century Manor. The only place that I wasn’t able to explore all by myself
I had this track on my player when I was in the hospital and it came up EXACTLY when there was a power failure and the back-up generators came in ! O.O
Not sure why but while its overall a birkin thing i get the feeling of weskers prescence aswell with this sonf as obviously he is there aswell in the shadows and saves ada near the end
The memories man!! I remember playing this on my Nintendo 64 at night being scared shitless as a kid. Now how come you couldn’t get into this place in RE0????
This is the music that plays constantly for any worker in the SCP foundation. In fact, this track is probably an Keter Class SCP that just plays everywhere in any SCP facility
Would I call this track beautiful? No I would call it what it is, Sick, Twisted, Demented even it's the source of all your greatest fears, your deepest darkest nightmares all brought to life and the most startling thing of all is the truth that it was all brought into being by mankind itself questioning more whether it could be done for better results and more monetary gain(at everyone else's expense) instead of asking whether they should try it at all to begin with. This theme works amazingly for one of the closing levels of the game and fully encapsulates what Umbrella truly is, A ruthless corporate giant that is pushing its pharmaceuticals by day and bringing pure horror to life by night
Into the unknown- RE Outbreak This is probably the iconic feeling of an underground laboratory ambiance, because they reused the same theme in Outbreak for the underground facility.
This is definitely something you would hear in a hospital. Because back in December of 2008, the day after Christmas, my stepfather was in the hospital recovering from a triple bypass surgery and around midnight once we found out everything was gonna be okay, my mom told me she was gonna spend the night. My grandmother and I left and I spent the night at her house. Cause we lived in a house out in the country and I didn't feel like being alone, cause I was practically alone from Christmas day all the way to the week after new years.
Resident Evil 2 deserves truly masterpiece remake but with this soundtracks. Sountracks and sound effects was amazing. I remember when i was at laboratory with a custom shotgun my characters footsteps and this music only. Then a creature appear but custom shotgun was freaking powerful i still hear that shotgun explode it was damn satisfaction...
@@MultiDom20 I have my doubts, RE remake was a great game, but the soundtrack wasn't as good as the original. The best song in the entire RE remake was the save room theme. In RE2, the whole soundtrack is so memorizable that I can hear it and say, that's the song when you enter the police station! Or that's the song when you enter the library! And since the hallways are dark now (like where you meet the licker), the song from that hallway was removed, it goes a little bit like this, *tan* *tan* *tan* *tan* try to memorize it in your head with the actual piano. So yeah, the first two Resident Evils had the best soundtrack and are my favorite games of all time. They inspired me to make games like it in the future. Also, I can't wait for RE2 remake!

remake is good but og is still my favourite , despite being newer and gaming being more advanced in technology but the og had this magic where it captured that feeling that cant be replicated
For some reason, back in 1998, my experience with Resident evil began by exploring Umbrella, through a friend's save data, this backingtrack is iconic.
pisses me off that the remake does not include most of these OSTs, it felt like a walk in the park mostly, sure the graphics were good and the characters too, but it did NOT have the same feeling as the original OG one as this, playing this track and playing the OG one had a more grim and disturbing feeling that you weren't alone, something was lurking from the shadows and it made the atmosphere feel creepy to its core.
Yup so true! The lab in the remake feels so clean and sterile, not scary at all. The original was so much more daunting and thrilling. Dirty, scary, no way out. And the eerie sound of our characters' footsteps in the metallic grids there (sorry I don't know the proper terminology but I'm sure you understand about which sound I'm talking about 😀) was the cherry on top 😎😎

I totally agree with you but I thought RE4 , 5 and partly 6 we’re good for what they were. The only good thing about 6 was Leon’s campaign. The rest sucked. RE7 was ok not that great. The other resident evils that were in between were hit or miss. Like you said I grew up playing the original RE1, 2 and 3 so they have a lot of meaning to me. I hope when they come out with this remake of RE2 it’s as good as the original, hope they don’t drop the ball.

1, 2, 3, code veronica x, and 4 is where it's at. I don't like too much after 4 but how could you not like that one
Dimitris-Dionysis Vennes don’t lose hope just yet. There could be a re2 remake. Eventually.
Zero and 4 weren't bad.
