Its called Malaysian hospitality. We love to serve for our guest. In this case, Eid is considered the biggest festivity hence the elderly wont let any family members left out. However, i must say this advertisement kinda exegerated because with that size of family its quite imposible to fit everybody in, let alone considering the halal gap (privacy) among family members. These days, a lot of kampong houses offer homestay service within the radius of the owner's house. You can find alot of kampong homestay in Airbnb for short visit throughout the year. But Eid is the peak season, not just for homestay but hotels in nearby town as well. Malaysian still practice this culture till today because we believe in strong family bonding esp when u can only do it once a year unles if we're able to do family day vacation every 1 or 2 years. Note: sandals been used daily, shoes for casual/official outing only.
It's an annual tradition here in Malaysia, be it the Hari Raya (for the Muslims), Chinese New Year (for the Chinese), Diwali (for the Hindus), Hari Gawai, or Pesta Kaamatan (Sarawak & Sabah), or Chrismas (for the Christians), there will be an exodus of people 'balik kampung' or going back to their hometown to visit their parent/grandparent/the elderly whereby some do stay at hotels but mostly stayed at their parents/grandparents house. It's like an annual gathering for family dinner as well as for fostering closer family ties. Cousins knowing cousins, aunties, uncles, grandparents, etc. as to ensure families remain steadfast together. It's also kind of a humbling experience going back to your roots, where it all began. Sadly for the past year during this pandemic, mostly are unable to continue this tradition. This tradition continues with the open house tradition (please react to TNB Raya 2019 - Konvoi Epik Fantastik ruclips.net/video/WrcbJ22crAE/видео.html ).

But that's the best part of growing up!! My hari raya memories. But those uncle and anuties who live in the hometown state sleep at their house. They come the night before raya n in the morning
LOL asian gathering is a whole another level. hotel is the last option. you wanna squeeze in as much relative as possible under one roof during Raya week. not a night, an entire week. yes, privacy wise it's suck. but Raya day will be so much fun
@@afiqdanielmohamed4406 depending to the families too... modern grandparents they might not want the children do sleepover but most grandparents preferred their children and grandchildren to stay at thier home.
Raya also mean Family gathering. We usually gather with all siblings at the parent's house and usually stays longer than 1 day. Sometime for 2-3 days before we switch home to our mother in law's house (for those who married...we usually have alternate stay). Raya eve will be the busiest for everybody when we'll prepare our festivity's traditional menu. Children will be busy with all their cousins and siblings playing sparks and fireworks. Lots of activities and chit chatting.
Usually most of malay family have 5 or 6 child, imagine that child is married and have another 5 or 6 grandchild, that's what happen here, when festive season like Raya Aidilfitri, all this child coming home to their village to celebrate the raya. Mostly the village house have a big living room so there is where the grandchildren sleep
It depends on the location and size of the house. Rumah kampung (village houses - the traditional wooden houses) are mostly on big lot or the houses are quite big. My grandma's house have spacious living and dining area and when my family, my aunties' and uncles' families all go there, most of us would just sleep all over the living room and dining area lol
3:30 Yep, for most people, they're not originally from the city (especially KL), their parent still lives outside the city, in kampung (village) far away from the city. That's why in raya ad you usually see old house. Once a year, during raya, they'll to go back to kampung (village) and met with their parent, friends, relatives etc.
For malay people, during raya all children will return to their hometown and gathered at their parents house.. imagine if there are 6 or 7 siblings, together with their spouses and children, it can be 50 over people in one house! Although the house was built small at the beginning, overtime, the house will be extended to accommodate more familiy members and funded by all grown children. So enough space for everybody. In term of privacy, for malay people, during family event, we are not really into individual privacy, it is okay for us to share common space etc.
For the Malaysian Malays (one of the many natives in Malaysia), family bond is super important, hence everybody in the family will gather at our elders' home during Hari Raya (Eid). At least for 1 or 2 days before going back to city life.
A lot of commercial movie with hijabis female lead in Malaysia, Indonesia and some notable films from Thailand and Philippines. SEA films are different than the middle east one as a lot hijabi female actress dont have any issue playing comical, comercial roles; which not just suitable for religious character. You can find hijabi actress playing villian or action packed character in this region.
We love to be crowded btwn all families...cousin, uncles, grandmas during Raya festival. It make us feel bonded closer and together create memories. Tok long = Tok (grandpa), Long stand for Along means the eldest among siblings.
7:50 that is a raya ad :) 9:29 it could be translate as *All the havoc when families gathered, brings out the 'festive mood' on/for the raya celebration*
This is what we always say..'balik kampung' when eid mubarak time..where all the family members come back to hometown..reunite and get know more all the siblings cousins aunties uncles ..much more to share Thank you for the reaction
Arif is that one cousin who stay in kampung with the Grandma and when Raya comes everybody like uncles, unties and cousins balik kampung filled the tiny kampung house
Those are a past. The last time I back to my hometown was three years ago. And the worse thing is my people from my hometown is positive covid. Sadness overwhelming.
Its a tradition for siblings to balik kampung (travel back home) for festivals like Hari Raya or Chinese New year. Its a mess but we like it because its just once or twice a year. We do have hotels everywhere but we prefer cramping everybody in the house. Usually village houses are very big. Sometimes we also brought camping tents and set it up in the lawn. We also do family gathering on other time usually done in a resort or homestays.
My mother side her had 19 siblings and I have a 2 grandma...when Raya celebration comes, the house will full with my uncles, aunts and cousins at least 50 people at a time. Not all of them, but some who far from home will stay at night..it may feeling crowded but it's a way to keep connection with big family once a year
For my family staying at my paternal grandparents' house would be a bit hectic, as my father hav 8 siblings, 9 including him..... and they all have 3 children in average.... So we used to lay mattresses in the living room and dining room... but when my aunt bought a house nearby half of us will go and sleep at her house, but only to sleep, the whole day would be spent at my grandparents' if we don't go anywhere to visit other relatives...it also helps when not all my father's siblings came at the same time, as it may be time for they to go back to their in-law's that year (we usually alternate) ....and 2 of my uncles lived overseas at that time..... Nowadays as the family grew we sleep at homestays/hotels (only sleep) but still spend the whole day at my aunt's as my grandparents have passed away...and they erect a tent now in the yard....
This is why we always say Raya festivals in the past were much better. Before television came into our lives in 1963, most of us lived in houses on stilts in the village where is it possible to share everything that we have. Once we desire to have houses like the westerners, to accommodate overnight guests become not feasible. That is why everyone love to return to the villages during the Raya festival not only to have close interaction with relatives but the whole village. Maybe we can do it again once we ascended to the 4D where we can create holographic houses, but it can never be the same like in the 50s and the 60s.
There's a new culture/ practice among younger generation now in which the extended families would stay at hotels during this time but more often than not, there would be a backlash especially the social commentaries on social media. This is expected from a culture/ people which does not have the perfect equivalent of the word 'privacy' in our language...
TNB BERHAD is a company electricity of Malaysia. That words acronim TNB is 'Tenaga Nasional Berhad'. Tenaga in english is energy. Nasional is national. Berhad is similliar with Ltd that sometimes is looking from signboard office.
Summer all year long so sandals are the best option. Shoes for playing sport, the fancy one for walking in the mall. On daily basis we just wear sandals or slippers. here we call 'selipar jepun' 😉
Guys this is kampung, village is always like this especially the elderly are there...this is why Malaysia stressed up because of the lockdown because we can celebrate with family
What you watched in this ad was typical for Malaysian family here. But it usually only for siblings, and not any extended family. We would go to our grandparent's house during Eid and stay there for a night or two. Coming from a huge family, I could assure that this ad is legit. My late grandfather had 15 children from 2 wives, and each child has 5 children on their own averagely so that makes us a lot lol
the tradition is we go back to our grandparents’ places and yes stay the bight(s)!! during the day, we would go around visiting other relatives nearby ;p in the modern world of course there are ppl who stay in nearby hotels though.
It's more like a tradition, as Eid is meant for everyone to get together and ask for forgiveness from eachother.. "Eid Fitr" literally means getting back to your true self, your roots..as such "Balik Raya" or going back to your hometown is a norm where we get together with different generations of the family. It's more like Thanksgiving instead of Christmas, where we have lots of food and catch up with eachother.
Come Raya, we stayed the nite! We wanted to. We slept on Futons in the living room, all rooms except the kitchen of course 😆. We did meet. We did see each other often, but come RAYA, we became bees. Hehe. Before Covid, that is. 😭😭😭
Hi Phezz & Miles.. Hope both of you, Enjoyed this video Actually, I really miss the Hari Raya atmosphere in the village, Celebrate with family and relatives😕😢 Insya'Allah, Maybe one day...
We do wear sandals and it is tradition for families/relatives to stay over at their family members' house during the festivities. The Jero cat movie is a continuous gag movie in all TNB's funny raya ads. The translation for the quote (I think so): Roistering with family, Invites happiness in Hari Raya. Please react to the TNB: Epik konvoi fantastik. This is also a Raya tradition that we used to do before the pandemic hits.
This is South East Asia, family is everything. You dont offend your family by making them bunk in a hotel. Everybody will come together for festivities and weddings. Thats how much we love our family.
It's normal here in Malaysia. I love going back to my mom every opportunity I hv with my siblings n their kids. The house will be so noisy, the kitchen will so busy cooking non stop. All teenage girls will sleep in the bedroom, the boys in the living room. It's fun!
"Riuh-rendah bersama keluarga mengundang seri di aHari Raya. SALAM AIDILFITRI" roughly translating: The havoc of a damily gathering brings out the joy of the festivity. HAPPY AIDILFITRI. By the way, Arif is the name of the boy. That elderly lady is his grandmother. So, that is the centre family for others to come and visit. I am guessing its the lady's children and their families. Oldeer generation may have ten or more children, thus a huge family. The gentleman in the Volkwagon is the lady's sibling paying a visit. Can uyou imagine had that man brought along his family lineage? 🤭 Now, that would require a hotel or a hall for festival gathering! The "movie" is TNB's previous year's Hari Raya ad featuring Jero, the cat.
Aku selalu je pakai selipar kalau keluar pergi jalan2. Mak aku selalu marah kalau pakai selipar kalau pergi luar negeri ke atau bandar gitu. Aku redah je pakai selipar gi KL.
its almost 90 percent of my family story during raya..yes..we all stay whole week together under one roof untill raya feast end..believe or not..its was a something that we are waiting every years..
usually during hari raya in malaysia most of the children who are single/ having families they all accomodate themselves into their elderly parents house. its a tradition here. like my family when they travelled to my grandparents house for celebrating hari raya, all 12 of us will stay at my grandparents house for a week. we cook together, shopping together, we cleanup and deco the house together, having fun together, everything we do, we'll do it together. we help each other. hari raya is like a family gathering for us. unfortunately during this pandemic covid 19 year we couldnt do this tradition for the sake of our family's health safety. but we make a group video call (Facetime for iphone user) with our grandparents during the hari raya day. some of the grandparents here they kind a know how to make a video call cos they have a smartphone but some of the grandparents they dont have the smart phone instead of regular phone like nokia and they just make a phone call.
It depend on that family if they went rent a homestay or not but this is about hari raya or we Malay called it "balik kampung" or going back to hometown to celebrate hari raya with our grandparents anyway about that movie I never seen it before , I think it just for this video only
That is how malaysian celebrate our festivals. Be it chinese new year ,deepavali or even chrismas we will go back ,get together n celebrate it with families at the eldery houses. we do have hotels n so on but during festivals time we would love to get together in our parent house. This is the time where we catch up with siblings n get to know each other ( in laws, cousins, nephrws n nieces). Most Malaysians have a big family. Me myself have 8 siblings and every Eid if all return with our own families to our parent house there will be around 40 pax of us.
Actually those village house in this ads were exactly like my village.. Both my parent had 12 siblings, and my father & mother coincidently were 9th son/daughter in the family.. i got like 100++ relatives (cousins).. but since both my grandparent already passed away.. its hard to reunite with other relative 😢😢😢 only raya which is once a year do we meet each other but now with this covid 19.. we just can meet relatives that were living close with us.. i miss them, those who lives far away.. hope this c19 will end and we will meet again
You can stay at a hotel but you have to talk to the elders and convince them that you'd be back so early in the morning that they won't even notice you're gone. Sometimes you just want to be considerate of other people but the elders would feel offended as if you dont want to stay at their house.
Jero the Cat, I'd say more like a cameo. Because it appears almost in all the TNB's festival ads/short-film. The word kind of says something like, noisy and disorderly together with family is what brings the light of joy in Hari Raya (Eid Mubarak). Not the exact translation of course, but I could say it close enough.
T last part meaned.. Its havoc n loud.. But those things a family bond n cherish during eid.. Appreciate family bond.. Tat our tradition.. BANGSA MALAYSIA
Well in Malaysia, Malay with big family, Yes we will stay for a week at home for Eid celebration. Women will sleep inside the room or living room, man and boy will sleep outside near kitchen, and at the terrace, car porch. Our grandparents will be Sad if we sleep at hotel.. unless we make a planned to make family days. Before Eid Celebration, We will get task instruction to do a job list, like me i got to help cutting vegetables, and prep the ingrediants for rendang ketupat. My cousin got a task to iron all out clothes for raya. Make 5 person in group to manage the task before Eid celebration. We love the chaotic mess and fun. 🥰☺️
We can't do it outside, Phez. Gonna be drenched in sweat in a few minutes. I mean we could rent canopies but who wants to spend money when there's obviously a cheaper & more convenient solution lol
It's a tradition that the children and grandchildren to gather during Raya for 2 or 3 days. No matter how cramped, there's always space for everybody. After all we only do this once a year. It's a matter of making the elders happy that we care for them and come back and spend the festivities with them. Otherwise they will be lonely and spend it only the two of them. The first boy is one of the grandchild who happens to live with grandma. As a youngster they hate their privacy being encroached by his young brats cousins who comes from the city and are snobbish 😄. But after time, it is not that bad at all! 😄. Staying away at a hotel is a NO NO!
During Raya, most of the Malay Muslims will go back to their hometown, and usually the hotels will be fully booked, including flight and bus tickets and back then in the 90's, Kuala Lumpur will be more relax during Hari Raya. Well this advert really show the reality during Hari Raya, we do celebrate it with gathering and food. The tv show is not a real movie, but if you guys follow this Hari Raya advert by TNB, Jero The Cat will be part of character in every advert. During raya we usually gather inside the house because the weather can be tricky. One time hot and all of the sudden heavy rain. Some people gather at the community hall, here we call it open house. Hari Raya is where you can gain weight because the whole month of Syawal will be full with open house invitation.
especially if you cook yourself with your relatives .... You will feel ascetic means cooking yourself from the results of sweat points produced together ... It will be a very best thing ever
"Riuh rendah bersama keluarga, mengundang seri di hari raya." Translates to the loudness with family members, invites the beauty of hari raya. Which means the atmosphre of the family mmbers that is always playful, busy, talking and making a wreck can also leads to a beautiful and meaningful celebration
I have 11 siblings, if possible, we will arrange our schedule so that we can back to our home village.. Imagine if one of us have 2 childrens + 1 wife/husband.. 11 siblings + 11 wife/husband + 22 childrend = 44 + 2 parents.. Very havoc but we happy, we chit chat, prepare for raya
I dunno, one would always have that rich grandpa (your grandma siblings) or uncle just like the last bit. We always need to go to his house for Raya or he would get really offended and ask to many question why we didn't if we met him outside the festivities. I don't mind cuz he gives the best duit raya and the selections of Raya food.
There is our tradition here in Malaysian .Although we have hotels ,rent room nearby but we prefer to stay together in one house.Because oncce a year we all family reunite together. There is no privacy. That is our unique traditions ..from long time ago until now..we malaysian especially malay did here.Because its just once a year.More close..gettin to know our relatives families. If we choose ..to went stay at hotel..its like we looklike arrogant because of avoid to mix well with all family/relatives here.
The number of people gathered in the advert (at one time) is an exaggeration I think, though it is quite common for families to go the elders for a visit during the Eid festival. Nowadays, we have smaller families and an average Malaysian family will have 2-4 children. Because of heat and humidity, yes, we prefer to use sandals when we visit families, and shoes are usually worn for "formal" occasions eg work, formal dining, weddings. We still prefer to rough it out at granny's place, and sometimes we take turns visiting our in laws to make room for everyone. Of course because of covid, the last 2 years have been very different for most families :(
usually during Raya all child in Malaysia will stay at his/her parents including his/her family (husband/wife and kids) so thats why the house will be full. just once a year
9:30 That you say want to translate it. Here... 'Hustle and bustle with the family, inviting a series at the feast. Greetings Eid Mubarak'. (Sorry if it incorrect)
We do have choice to stay at hotel but... The aim is to be together and this experience make our hari raya more meaningful. We don't care about to be comfortable. We want it mess and enjoyable
If you want come to malaysia...come at raya time...can play fire work at night too...raya just 2 days in 1 year...after ramadhan at long fasting season
As for my maternal grandparents side its much more easier, because they have only 3 children, and my eldest uncle lives in singapore (no long raya holidays) so he n his family rarely went back to my grandparent's to celebrate hari raya on the day itself... except recently ..... Now my singaporean cousins came down for hari raya on alternate year... Stayed in another uncle's house.... and in the coming years when this cocid is not around they will be staying at their own house here in melaka as my couwins are planning on building a house....
You might think it's miserable but i really miss this kind of gathering so much. A gathering like this is a must at least once a year either it's chinese new year or raya or deepavali. There are hotels everywhere but what's the point of gathering when we don't gather together right? 😂
We do have hotels everywhere but we prefer to stay with the family and u do not want to hurt elderly feeling by staying in the hotel. Nowadays it has evolved a bit, we rent hotel to store our belongings and sometimes to go shower and get changed.
Its a tradition for Malaysian to gather at their parents house during the major festivals....so the ads is like exaggerating all the chaos and stress involve when a lot of people gather at the same house. its an asian thing for these big family gathering. btw my parents would kill me if i dont spend the night/the week at their house during the festive season. its the good times w family which we will remember despite the inconvenience and loss of privacy. bcz family is everything ..and in Malaysia our house is "open" means everyone is invited to drop by for a visit even strangers are welcomed... in case you are in malaysia, feel free to visit ny house OK!
Miss this moments....due to covid, we can't celebrate like that again...hopefully the pandemic will end soon....my grandparent's house so small but it can fit the whole family like that video when celebrating eid🤣🤣
Its not miserable, maybe you can't really relate with the culture, if you experience it yourself the festival it'll be the sweetest and memorable day,the hecticness and everything make itso fun and exciting😂u won't feel the excitement if you stay at hotel, whats the point cuz its smth tht celebrated once a year, meeting yr relatives and grandparents, its your time to spend time with them
During raya we prefer use sandals bcause we never wear a shoes in a house - easier to visited multiple house We have a hotel but mostly we purposely stay at a crowded houses to know each other and its more fun - it only take 1-2days only No its not a real movie 🤣
i love celebrate raya on my mum's family side.. much more comfortable ,,,more space ... hahahahahhahah malaysian? who love mom's side? hahahahahahahaha
Gathering together is like a tradition but nowadays most of them are busy so they came at the morning of first eid. But the night before first eid is the best moment tbh

7:50 that is a raya ad :)
9:29 it could be translate as *All the havoc when families gathered, brings out the 'festive mood' on/for the raya celebration*
It's traditions....we will sleep at our grandparents 🏠....it's will became good memories of Raya ...it's about family
This is what we always say..'balik kampung' when eid mubarak time..where all the family members come back to hometown..reunite and get know more all the siblings cousins aunties uncles ..much more to share
Thank you for the reaction
Tambah Deepavali jgk..
That does sound great and makes a lot of sense!
It's real traditional Raya Malay...love it😘every year
Summer all year long so sandals are the best option.
My late grandfather had 15 children from 2 wives, and each child has 5 children on their own averagely so that makes us a lot lol
the tradition is we go back to our grandparents’ places and yes stay the bight(s)!!
during the day, we would go around visiting other relatives nearby ;p
in the modern world of course there are ppl who stay in nearby hotels though.
Its about all together thats mean alot..to us..when raya came by
and raya is 1 month.. :)
Hi Phezz & Miles..
Hope both of you,
Enjoyed this video
Actually,
I really miss the Hari Raya atmosphere in the village,
Celebrate with family and relatives😕😢
Insya'Allah,
Maybe one day...
this is once in a year, were ok, we love to meet all the relatives and also make our grandparents happy.. 😊🇲🇾❤️
It's fun!
i love when my family stay together and malaysia also have a lot hotel but we choose to stay together
Its one of culture when Raya we all stay together in one roof, and that time we all will talk about childhood, i mean isnt that great?
it's malaysian culture, all family come together stay at night
Thats the difference between western culture comparing to Asian culture..this is the time when family gets together..
Sandals been used daily. Shoes more to casual outing.
YES
Aku selalu je pakai selipar kalau keluar pergi jalan2. Mak aku selalu marah kalau pakai selipar kalau pergi luar negeri ke atau bandar gitu. Aku redah je pakai selipar gi KL.
@@adamharith782 sama lah kita.. lg skg ni.. kalau dulu pakai kasut utk kerja, lari atau senaman atau pergi jemputan..
its almost 90 percent of my family story during raya..yes..we all stay whole week together under one roof untill raya feast end..believe or not..its was a something that we are waiting every years..
usually during hari raya in malaysia most of the children who are single/ having families they all accomodate themselves into their elderly parents house. its a tradition here. like my family when they travelled to my grandparents house for celebrating hari raya, all 12 of us will stay at my grandparents house for a week. we cook together, shopping together, we cleanup and deco the house together, having fun together, everything we do, we'll do it together. we help each other. hari raya is like a family gathering for us. unfortunately during this pandemic covid 19 year we couldnt do this tradition for the sake of our family's health safety. but we make a group video call (Facetime for iphone user) with our grandparents during the hari raya day. some of the grandparents here they kind a know how to make a video call cos they have a smartphone but some of the grandparents they dont have the smart phone instead of regular phone like nokia and they just make a phone call.
My fav ad , just like my family when raya or school holidays before Covid19
Jero the Cat, I'd say more like a cameo. Because it appears almost in all the TNB's festival ads/short-film.
The word kind of says something like, noisy and disorderly together with family is what brings the light of joy in Hari Raya (Eid Mubarak). Not the exact translation of course, but I could say it close enough.
Xpernah perasan pn cerita Jero dlm iklan TNB. No wonder laa sekarang kakak yg berlakon Jero tu pulak jd main lead dlm iklan TNB!
@@aimisakee867 😂😂😂... Asal iklan TNB je mesti cari si Jero tu...
Its really usual to staying up at the grandparents house . Coz its much cheaper that way .
This is always the real "raya" in malaysia before the pandemic..
Hotel is the last option ..in case the house gonna "explode"😂😂
In Malaysia, it's normal to see a hijabi heroin/ lead character as well as side characters in a drama or movie.
GET WELL SOON, PHEZZ!
That is how we celebrate hari raya.. all siblings reunited at the parent's house...awww....missing the moment
It's relative😂 Malaysian have a lot of relative. All of us will come back to our grandpa/grandma house to celebrate the festival together.
Thanks for the reaction!
7:40 Jero from 2017 TNB raya ad "movie".. :)
Ahhh... those were the days. I miss both sides of grandparents. Family IS important.
that is real situation in village at night before the Raya Festival tommorrow
Yea..🥺
Thats not a real movie..but the hijab woman character and cat are the 2017 Raya ad. Another funny ad. Honestly I like the 2017 more than 2018 ad. 😅
We love to gather..not only during Hari Raya Festival..we always gather if we have time..
Its not miserable, maybe you can't really relate with the culture, if you experience it yourself the festival it'll be the sweetest and memorable day,the hecticness and everything make itso fun and exciting😂u won't feel the excitement if you stay at hotel, whats the point cuz its smth tht celebrated once a year, meeting yr relatives and grandparents, its your time to spend time with them
sandals are literally the superior... i even went to the mall wearing them.. i bet no house in Malaysia don't have any sandal
During raya we prefer use sandals bcause we never wear a shoes in a house - easier to visited multiple house
We have a hotel but mostly we purposely stay at a crowded houses to know each other and its more fun - it only take 1-2days only
No its not a real movie 🤣
This is about muslim festival called Aidilfitri, normally during this festive all family must going back to hometown ...
yes any family members a welcome anytime this our culture malaysian way 🇲🇾❤🇺🇸✌
i love celebrate raya on my mum's family side.. much more comfortable ,,,more space ... hahahahahhahah malaysian? who love mom's side? hahahahahahahaha
Gathering together is like a tradition but nowadays most of them are busy so they came at the morning of first eid. But the night before first eid is the best moment tbh
7:48 its the characters in tnb raya ads too but at another tnb raya ads
It's like your thanksgiving.. usually everyone will gather at the grandparents house..
