Angelina’s manager from the beginning is her uncle Michael Astar. From article of Music Norway interview we learn that Michael was raised in Japan and music was always his passion. After his family moved to Norway, Michael became a hip-hop DJ. As a 16-year old he was a DJ at 21+ night clubs in Oslo, Norway, getting the gigs because he looked older and no one asked his age before being hired. After getting tired of being a DJ, Michael started a music management company in 2013, and 3 months later, with no clients yet, Angelina signed-up to try out for Norway’s Got Talent. Angelina’s first audition when 7-years old was a cover of Billie Holiday’s song “Gloomy Sunday” that went viral when it got uploaded to RUclips. Then Angelina won Norway’s Got Talent, had other viral RUclipss, performed on Norway, US and other TV shows and her career started to take off. Eventually she had over 1 billion views of her performances on RUclips and Facebook before Angelina’s appearances on the American’s Got Talent - The Champions show. Her performances there further accelerated her career. At this point, Angelina asked her uncle Michael if it was possible for her to move to the US to pursue her music dreams. Michael says this was a tough call, and he asked himself questions like; how on earth are you going to pull this off? What about a VISA? What about finances? Are you willing to sell everything you have and own, and also get a loan to risk everything? Michael related that “These were questions I had to ask myself, several times a day. Then, I remembered, what did my mom do when she went to Japan? She didn’t even talk Japanese or knew anyone. She did it because she risked everything for a better future.” So, Michael flew alone to Los Angeles, studied and learned anything he could learn from the people he got to know during his time in the Industry. After gathering a bunch of people, he came back to Norway and started the process. He indicated that “A few months later, I told her, PACK YOUR BAGS! We are going next week to pursue your dream! All in baby. Her smile made it all worth the hassle.” “We stayed patient because the way this industry works is bizarre and you have to dodge bullets right and left to get anywhere. But would I do it again? Of course! Life without challenge is boring," Michael says. For Michael, a lot of his time involves talking with industry people, to see what’s happening out there. Having recently become a father and with COVID-19, time has become even busier and more crazy than usual. “There is a lot of stuff happening with Angelina, and it requires daily briefings with a lot of people.” America’s Got Talent had always been interested in bringing Angelina to the show, but with their normal contract, artists are being locked into a label, management, and other things for many years. Michael says that it did not matter if you get exposure or not, it was out of the question to give away that many rights. This kind of patience eventually paid off. Michael said that “Some time passed and they again contacted me, asking if she wanted to sing on their show. I convinced them to give me a contract where Angelina is free from any deal if she performs, she is great for their TV show and Angelina will get the exposure she needs to breakthrough, because I knew, the talent is one of the kind like no other, I just needed her to be seen and was on a daily hunt for how to get the right spot for her in the USA.” After, Angelina’s success on America’s Got Talent, she eventually signed with Republic Records in August 2020 where Angelina was told she was Republic’s highest priority new artist. Michael says the commitment with the right interest in mind has been one of the most important things when choosing a team and partners to be part of Angelina’s team. “You also need to choose someone with the right chemistry. These are the people you have to deal with on a daily basis, you have to have a good feeling and chemistry with the team you choose.” Although no specifics yet, Michael says that the plans for Angelina include going global. Advice from Michael: “Go with your instinct, it never fails, crazy how nature does that. Always be humble, you get way further being a nice person, people tend to be nice back. Always read the contract. Find a good lawyer (It’s super hard to find the good one, but with dedication, you can). Don’t rely on people, you want something done? Do it yourself. If you are good at something, never do it for free (Quote from the Joker).”

A fearless, sincere, loving and compassionate young woman who is so passionate about her singing ! You don't have to worry about her upbringing because she is well grounded by her family and even though she is signed with Republic Records they will allow her to control her musical career ! She is still in school and I feel will really be allowed to break out totally after she finishes school! If you really want to be blown away I would suggest her rendition of Screaming Jay Hawkins sing " I Put a Spell on You " black and white studio edition when she was just 9 years old ! Great reaction! From all we know of Angelina "She" is the driving force, and has been since at least the age of 5 when she told her mother she was ready to audition for NGT, (had to wait till she was 7 due to her mom requiring her to wait). Her family is incredibly supportive, if anything they have consistently put the brakes on and insisted she finish school and have as normal a childhood as possible. Her mother could write a book on how to raise a child prodigy in the music industry the right way. It was even part of the deal with Republic Records that they will not promote her till after she finishes school (that's why she is still somewhat of a hidden talent). She arranges the songs herself, she is supremely confident and has never been nervous on stage, only excited to be singing, once on stage she does not want to leave (she has said this herself in several interviews). She is super intelligent as well, and on top of that she has a wonderful heart! She literally has it all! From what I have read, she is mostly self taught, (she even blurted out in an interview once "I taught myself") she did have vocal coaching, but they (wisely) did not attempt to mess with her voice, because it is so unique. So now, if you really want to lose your mind, check out "I Put A Spell On You" the black and white vid when she was 9 years old. It is a shocker and in my opinion, it's how the song was meant to be sung! Can't wait to see it with you!

I have been a fan of Angelina since she was 7 years old; have heard everyone of her songs (160+ on RUclips) over 100 times. Only one person has ever pushed her, and that person has pushed her unbelievably hard! That person is Angelina herself!!! Her family has fought to hold her back, to keep her childhood as normal as possible, and to keep the sharks away from her! Having a normal childhood has been the most important thing in every choice they have made. They only agreed to finely let her sign with Republic Records after RR agreed to give her virtually total control over her song choices, and how she sings them, and agreed to not promote her till she finished school.

She was begging and pleading her family to let her on to the Norway's Got Talent show! This is all her own inspiration. She IS the music! She says herself that singing is like breathing to her. Her family have been immensely supportive and protective of her at the same time, which is why her incredible talent is still little known in the wider world. Have no fear - she is the real deal, and if you see her in her recent set of concerts you will see how happy she is to be doing what she loves.

She auditioned at age 7 for Norway's Got Talent with Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday." But she actually turned 8 during the course of the competition and won at that age.
What her parents did went right with Angelina. They decided, that she was mostly (only) doing concerts for charities and for families. She sang at 8 yo for the Nobel Peace Prize Recipients, because she had dreamt of it since age 3. PLEASE accept, that Angelina is a highly gifted (High IQ) child, she knew at age 3 what she wanted to do, and saw it through, she even sang for the Obamas. Me, I am following her since 2020 and was corrected many times.
Your children are very fortunate to have such a caring "sauceydad". Your concern for Angelina and I'm sure any other child is warranted and shows your true compassion toward their well being. Rest assured that Angelina's family is extremely protective of her and in a couple of interviews when Angelina was 9 or 10 she stated that education and having as normal a childhood as possible is her main concern. Sara, Angelina's mother is seen shedding tears at Angelina's audition at 7 years old on Norway's Got Talent and was told that those wear tears of joy and she responded with "No, I know now that Angelina belongs to the world". Great second reaction with her astonishing version of the old song of EJ, is another song. We don't have to worry about her childhood and adolescence, she is always very protected and supported in her choices. Her family has decided to move from Norway to the US precisely to help Angelina in her choice, strongly desired, since she was a child, to become a star of the song, she couldn't have better tutors. I believe that this fantastic girl has more than just a musical talent, she also has a special musical sensitivity and a capacity for vocal evaluation, which make the results she always gets, even more surreal regardless of her age. I feel like comparing it to a starred chef, for her particular ability to be able to change the very flavor of the songs that she reinterprets, modifies the ingredients, without distorting the song, and creates a completely new flavor to each song, she is simply extraordinary. I can't compare Angelina to any other singer, I just know that the emotion that shakes me every time I listen to one of her songs is different from what I feel when I listen to other singer interpret it. @@branscombeR Angelina makes many other singers sound like they are painting a picture with one paint brush and one pigment of paint. She has all the paint brushes, and brush strokes, and colors from the preceding masters that she has ever heard and uses them instantly without hesitation. Like a painter who has jar full of brushes and a palette full of paints and has studied all the works of the masters who preceded her; I believe that instead of singing notes, Angelina paints a masterful tapestry of emotions with her voice. Because she is both the musician and the instrument, I have come to describe her as Mozart and Monet building a Stradivarius.
As a dad too, i totally understand your concerns. Long story short, we can give her family the utmost kudos. Angelina was the driver of her successes and her family kept her grounded. They turned down numerous big dollar contracts and were very selective instead because they wanted to maintain control so she could have as normal schooling and childhood as possible. They turned down suitors for 10 years before signing her first record deal, and again, only when they/she could maintain artistic and schedule control. They are doing things totally right.. what best for her.. we know where she gets some of her amazingness (not as a singer, but as a human being) from...
Saucey, I thank you for your concern for Angelina being robbed of her childhood. I could write a short book from what I have learned over the past two years which would alleviate your concerns. The most telling fact is, when Angelina signed with Republic Records in August of 2020, at age 14, her parents and her uncle/manager had two conditions (from what I understand). Firstly they requested Angelina remain in total control over what she wants to sing and secondly, that she be allowed as normal a childhood as possible. 20 months later, Angelina has released two original songs on Republic and neither has been promoted. I don't know of any other teen singer who got such a record deal and we angels (fans) are willing to allow Angelina's loving and wise family, all the time they feel they need before having Republic promote her. Once the genie is out of the bottle and Angelina is known worldwide, you can't put her back in the bottle.
love watching you . . . I believe no one forces her she was born for this, she arranges her own music & the music of the musicians playing instruments with her, even at 9yrs old. She just sees and feels the music. also the youngest Author in Norway @ 8yrs old I believe and she designs and does the sewing of her clothing as well. Her grandmother is an artist & if I remember correctly she was introduced to Jazz via Grandmother at a very young age. her family travels with her everywhere and I read, wouldn't allow her to sign contracts nor be managed by anyone. she makes decisions along with her family and their support. now you know all I know . . . regarding this So Amazing Girl. Angelina has been her own driving force in her career. Her father has remained out of the spotlight, Angelina's Grandmother is her soulmate and mentor, her Mother Sara is loving, caring and protective, her Uncle Michael is her manager and Juliette is her younger sister. Angelina has stated on more than one occasion that singing is like breathing to her and she loves singing and performing. Her family has actually protected Angelina and tried to let her have a regular childhood, under the circumstances. Angelina was the one that convinced her mother to let her enter Norway's Got Talent.
Dude, I can assure you that every decision she makes is made voluntarily. She has a family and supportive fans that she gained from the age of 7 in her performances in Norway Good talent and it is clear to everyone that if she wanted more she would have been there. A record company definitely says it does things at its own pace this is also the reason it has signed on to Republic recordings so that it will remain independent in its decisions and not just chase after the big money. She has been singing since the age of a year and a half and she grew up like any normal child in school and with friends and in between she has done so many songs of different kinds that every time you hear her think it is a different voice he sings. She has several interviews in which she explains what happens to her when she sings big she goes through an out-of-body experience and if you ask me she is a soul reincarnation of Billy Holiday 🗣🎙👑🎷

Angelinas parents are the opposite of pushy. When she was 5 she was begging them to take her to Norways got Talent (NGT), but they thought she was too young. Same thing at 6.. Then at 7 they allowed her to go, and she went on to win the show.. She LOVES what she's doing and have said so many times in interviews. Her mother have been adamant she have as normal childhood as possible (her school grades have been excellent all the way) and she have turned down over 90% of engagement request for Angelina to give her time to be a child :-)
Angelina became enamored with Jazz because her grandmother loved jazz & obviously at the age of 3 she pushed her parents to sing at Norway’s Got Talent but they thought she was young📌 She sang 4 Jazz songs at Norway’s Got Talent - one of the songs in a cappella.📌 Today she has over 140 covers & a handful of her own original songs. Yes, she arranges her own vocals. Angelina confirmed this herself last week on her Instagram... "ask me a question" (orange 🍊 hoodie) that she arranged Bohemian Rhapsody and most of the things she sings. Her jazz roots, her tone, her determination and work effort makes her a generational singer.
@@branscombeR Not sure if you're trying to discount Angelina's talents or just stating the obvious. I did not say all of the songs she sings are reinvented. Sometimes she sticks very close to the original while other times she reinvents the song, such as Bohemian Rhapsody or Billie Jean. Even if she is close to the original, there are obvious differences. She's not an impersonator or mimic. Adele's 'Easy on Me' is an excellent example of Angelina performing a song with her own nuances (a subtle difference in or shade of meaning, expression, or sound). Angelina's version of 'Born to Die' follows Lana Del Rey's and yet, they are very different. Angelina has a different tone and conveys much more emotion. Check it out. I thinks she's age 12.
Angelina’s grandmother is a noted artist and poet, and child prodigy herself, so this was not unknown in her family, and yes, Angelina herself has always been the driving force, she told the other girl that she gave her shoes to that her dream was to be a superstar, that was when she was 6, her mother however would not let her audition until she demonstrated she was ready, and she worked hard to get to the point that her mother could no longer deny her an opportunity to audition. However, after she won, her mother and extended family clamped down on access to Angelina to preserve her childhood, but that became increasingly difficult as the music industry became more aware of her, especially when you have people like Quincy Jones requesting her to sing a song he arranged for Frank Sinatra at his 85th birthday celebration, and he and Angelina became fast friends, but they still were able to keep things in check and part of her signing with Republic Records includes her being able to have a normal child, what’s left of it. So there is no concern about her upbringing and her childhood, it has been managed very well, and everyone who interacts with Angelina knows from the beginning that there are guardrails.
She was not and is not pushed. She actually pushed her parents to let her record and enter contests. In fact her family has tried to protect her by holding her back. I suggest you watch her 1st recording at the age of 6, “I Who Have Nothing.” Watch her excitement and enthusiasm in that session and it is quite obvious that she does this because she loved it!

After she won the offers started coming in but her parents turned down 90% of them, including Disney so as to allow Angelina a normal childhood and education. They have been that way ever since. She didn’t sign a record deal until she was 14 and even then they had to allow her time to finish her school and give her complete control of her art. She is a child prodigy the likes of which only come along once in a lifetime , or in her case century. Anyway, have no fear for Angelina. She has been protected as well as you could hope for. She wrote one of her first original songs about it, “Shield”. You should definitely check it out. Her parents and manager deserve an award for how they have navigated these waters for the last decade. Angelina is one of the most humble, caring, thoughtful people you could ever imagine. And a musical genius beyond compare.

If you read some of the background the fans left in the comments of your last Angelina video, it might be more obvious that it is all her that has driven her singing career. But really, you don't even need the background to know that music is just in her soul. Not only did her parents not force this on her, but I'm not sure that anyone could have stopped her. Angelina's family has handled her unprecedented talent in such a graceful way over the last 10 years. You said you had trouble weeding through the reactions to find the videos... I like what you say about protecting Angelina's childhood. It must have been incredibly hard. There is a video of Angelina and family and her childhood friends at an amusement park riding the park's feature terrifying ride. BUT the park was closed for the day except for Angelina's crew. Hard to be 'normal' when yer not. And yet I think she is/was the perfect kid.
This young lady is a vocal chameleon. Every time she brings tears in my eyes cause it is so beautiful. Angelina Jordan ASTAR (the name says it all), this young norwegian lady is imo the best singer on the planet! I am 69 y old and have never heard a singer like her in my whole life.
Her little giggle at the end of this one says it all. She does one more AGT performance, Someone Like You, that you might really enjoy because of the way it was set up. While I love so many of hers, the version of I’m Still Holding Out For You, which she sang at 10 and wasn’t intended to be released, is my favorite. Simply fabulous.

Here is some background information on Angelina and family: Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RUclips. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina has concerts scheduled in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. Her family relations are very tight and they think very carefully every step in her career. Her mother is a very nice person but also very protective for Angelina I guess. Her maternal grandmother is also very much involved (she is a famous artist herself) and her uncle is her manager.

You need to hear her “Bang Bang” performance from Norways got talent at age 7 and the black and white “I put a spell on you” version from age 9. And for a current one, I recommend “Million Miles”, which is an original that she wrote. Her parents are very careful with her, they have turned down several recording contracts for her to prolong her childhood.

You have been told in comments before this one how protective her family is, but what wasn't mentioned is that, even from a very young age, Angelina has had the maturity to understand that the decisions they have made on her behalf were the right ones. I would go even further and suggest that Angelina took part in any discussions about her career.

Her parents have insisted she finish school like the rest of the children her age. They’ve also rejected over 90% of the record deals she’s been offered. She also didn’t agree to sign a recording contract with Simon’s company in order to protect her artistic direction. That’s why she didn’t “win” AGT. She’s actually had a lot of really good protection from the adults around her.

I don't think you need to worry about Angelina being forced into her career. She herself is the driving force and always has been, while her parents and manager actually keep stepping on the brakes when stepping on the brakes is indicated. She really wanted to sing for Norway's Got Talent when she was 5 years old, but she had to wait until she reached the minimum age of 7. When she won the competition, she and her parents decided that her schooling should take priority over any concerts and her musical career. Her uncle Michael, who manages her, was already working as a music manager in the industry before Angelina became famous. Her family is very eager to protect Angelina, but also supports her unconditionally, for example, moving almost the entire family from Oslo to Los Angeles. They turned down all record contracts, including Simon Cowell and Disney, for example, until they found a company that agreed with their terms, Republic Records. It is expected that Angelina will finish her schooling this summer and after that her record label will really push her career, including CD release, media hype and concerts.

Dan...as a father of a prodigy (basketball), I understand your angst. I understand the concern of parents projecting at their special children. My kid was dribbling a basketball before walking( he was doing it while crawling). My child pushed us on playing from the get go. We have challenge him when he needed and always allowed him to back out.... if wanted (There were defiantly times, and each time he brought us back). From what I have seen in Angelina, is pretty much the same. I think you need start from the get go with her. There is video (like most prodigy parents we have film lol). I think you will feel the same once you start watch and listen. Her mother and grandmother have raised her and I think from my perspective they raised a great kid who cares. But this IS what she wants to do, and her parents are VERY protective of her, her childhood, and her career. Angelina’s manager from the beginning is her uncle Michael Astar. From article of Music Norway interview we learn that Michael was raised in Japan and music was always his passion. After his family moved to Norway, Michael became a hip-hop DJ. As a 16-year old he was a DJ at 21+ night clubs in Oslo, Norway, getting the gigs because he looked older and no one asked his age before being hired.
After getting tired of being a DJ, Michael started a music management company in 2013, and 3 months later, with no clients yet, Angelina signed-up to try out for Norway’s Got Talent. Angelina’s first audition when 7-years old was a cover of Billie Holiday’s song “Gloomy Sunday” that went viral when it got uploaded to RUclips. Then Angelina won Norway’s Got Talent, had other viral RUclipss, performed on Norway, US and other TV shows and her career started to take off. Eventually she had over 1 billion views of her performances on RUclips and Facebook before Angelina’s appearances on the American’s Got Talent - The Champions show. Her performances there further accelerated her career.
At this point, Angelina asked her uncle Michael if it was possible for her to move to the US to pursue her music dreams. Michael says this was a tough call, and he asked himself questions like; how on earth are you going to pull this off? What about a VISA? What about finances? Are you willing to sell everything you have and own, and also get a loan to risk everything? Michael related that “These were questions I had to ask myself, several times a day. Then, I remembered, what did my mom do when she went to Japan? She didn’t even talk Japanese or knew anyone. She did it because she risked everything for a better future.”
So, Michael flew alone to Los Angeles, studied and learned anything he could learn from the people he got to know during his time in the Industry. After gathering a bunch of people, he came back to Norway and started the process. He indicated that “A few months later, I told her, PACK YOUR BAGS! We are going next week to pursue your dream! All in baby. Her smile made it all worth the hassle.”
“We stayed patient because the way this industry works is bizarre and you have to dodge bullets right and left to get anywhere. But would I do it again? Of course! Life without challenge is boring," Michael says.
For Michael, a lot of his time involves talking with industry people, to see what’s happening out there. Having recently become a father and with COVID-19, time has become even busier and more crazy than usual. “There is a lot of stuff happening with Angelina, and it requires daily briefings with a lot of people.”
America’s Got Talent had always been interested in bringing Angelina to the show, but with their normal contract, artists are being locked into a label, management, and other things for many years. Michael says that it did not matter if you get exposure or not, it was out of the question to give away that many rights.
This kind of patience eventually paid off. Michael said that “Some time passed and they again contacted me, asking if she wanted to sing on their show. I convinced them to give me a contract where Angelina is free from any deal if she performs, she is great for their TV show and Angelina will get the exposure she needs to breakthrough, because I knew, the talent is one of the kind like no other, I just needed her to be seen and was on a daily hunt for how to get the right spot for her in the USA.”
After, Angelina’s success on America’s Got Talent, she eventually signed with Republic Records in August 2020 where Angelina was told she was Republic’s highest priority new artist. Michael says the commitment with the right interest in mind has been one of the most important things when choosing a team and partners to be part of Angelina’s team. “You also need to choose someone with the right chemistry. These are the people you have to deal with on a daily basis, you have to have a good feeling and chemistry with the team you choose.”
Although no specifics yet, Michael says that the plans for Angelina include going global.
Advice from Michael: “Go with your instinct, it never fails, crazy how nature does that. Always be humble, you get way further being a nice person, people tend to be nice back. Always read the contract. Find a good lawyer (It’s super hard to find the good one, but with dedication, you can). Don’t rely on people, you want something done? Do it yourself. If you are good at something, never do it for free (Quote from the Joker).”

From all we know of Angelina "She" is the driving force, and has been since at least the age of 5 when she told her mother she was ready to audition for NGT, (had to wait till she was 7 due to her mom requiring her to wait). Her family is incredibly supportive, if anything they have consistently put the brakes on and insisted she finish school and have as normal a childhood as possible. Her mother could write a book on how to raise a child prodigy in the music industry the right way. It was even part of the deal with Republic Records that they will not promote her till after she finishes school (that's why she is still somewhat of a hidden talent). She arranges the songs herself, she is supremely confident and has never been nervous on stage, only excited to be singing, once on stage she does not want to leave (she has said this herself in several interviews). She is super intelligent as well, and on top of that she has a wonderful heart! She literally has it all! From what I have read, she is mostly self taught, (she even blurted out in an interview once "I taught myself") she did have vocal coaching, but they (wisely) did not attempt to mess with her voice, because it is so unique. So now, if you really want to lose your mind, check out "I Put A Spell On You" the black and white vid when she was 9 years old. It is a shocker and in my opinion, it's how the song was meant to be sung! Can't wait to see it with you!

I have been a fan of Angelina since she was 7 years old; have heard everyone of her songs (160+ on RUclips) over 100 times. Only one person has ever pushed her, and that person has pushed her unbelievably hard! That person is Angelina herself!!! Her family has fought to hold her back, to keep her childhood as normal as possible, and to keep the sharks away from her! Having a normal childhood has been the most important thing in every choice they have made. They only agreed to finely let her sign with Republic Records after RR agreed to give her virtually total control over her song choices, and how she sings them, and agreed to not promote her till she finished school.

Her family have been immensely supportive and protective of her at the same time, which is why her incredible talent is still little known in the wider world. Your children are very fortunate to have such a caring "sauceydad". Your concern for Angelina and I'm sure any other child is warranted and shows your true compassion toward their well being. Rest assured that Angelina's family is extremely protective of her and in a couple of interviews when Angelina was 9 or 10 she stated that education and having as normal a childhood as possible is her main concern. Sara, Angelina's mother is seen shedding tears at Angelina's audition at 7 years old on Norway's Got Talent and was told that those wear tears of joy and she responded with "No, I know now that Angelina belongs to the world". Great second reaction with her astonishing version of the old song of EJ, is another song. We don't have to worry about her childhood and adolescence, she is always very protected and supported in her choices. Her family has decided to move from Norway to the US precisely to help Angelina in her choice, strongly desired, since she was a child, to become a star of the song, she couldn't have better tutors. I believe that this fantastic girl has more than just a musical talent, she also has a special musical sensitivity and a capacity for vocal evaluation, which make the results she always gets, even more surreal regardless of her age. I feel like comparing it to a starred chef, for her particular ability to be able to change the very flavor of the songs that she reinterprets, modifies the ingredients, without distorting the song, and creates a completely new flavor to each song, she is simply extraordinary. I can't compare Angelina to any other singer, I just know that the emotion that shakes me every time I listen to one of her songs is different from what I feel when I listen to other singer interpret it. She has all the paint brushes, and brush strokes, and colors from the preceding masters that she has ever heard and uses them instantly without hesitation. Like a painter who has jar full of brushes and a palette full of paints and has studied all the works of the masters who preceded her; I believe that instead of singing notes, Angelina paints a masterful tapestry of emotions with her voice.
Because she is both the musician and the instrument, I have come to describe her as Mozart and Monet building a Stradivarius.
As a dad too, i totally understand your concerns. Long story short, we can give her family the utmost kudos. Angelina was the driver of her successes and her family kept her grounded. They turned down numerous big dollar contracts and were very selective instead because they wanted to maintain control so she could have as normal schooling and childhood as possible. They turned down suitors for 10 years before signing her first record deal, and again, only when they/she could maintain artistic and schedule control. They are doing things totally right.. what best for her.. we know where she gets some of her amazingness (not as a singer, but as a human being) from...
Saucey, I thank you for your concern for Angelina being robbed of her childhood. I could write a short book from what I have learned over the past two years which would alleviate your concerns. The most telling fact is, when Angelina signed with Republic Records in August of 2020, at age 14, her parents and her uncle/manager had two conditions (from what I understand). Firstly they requested Angelina remain in total control over what she wants to sing and secondly, that she be allowed as normal a childhood as possible. 20 months later, Angelina has released two original songs on Republic and neither has been promoted. I don't know of any other teen singer who got such a record deal and we angels (fans) are willing to allow Angelina's loving and wise family, all the time they feel they need before having Republic promote her. Once the genie is out of the bottle and Angelina is known worldwide, you can't put her back in the bottle.
Pretty sure she entered Norway's Got Talent at 7 years of age and had had her 8th birthday by the time she was announced as it's winner.

Angelina has been her own driving force in her career. Her father has remained out of the spotlight, Angelina's Grandmother is her soulmate and mentor, her Mother Sara is loving, caring and protective, her Uncle Michael is her manager and Juliette is her younger sister. Angelina has stated on more than one occasion that singing is like breathing to her and she loves singing and performing. Her family has actually protected Angelina and tried to let her have a regular childhood, under the circumstances. Angelina was the one that convinced her mother to let her enter Norway's Got Talent.
Dude, I can assure you that every decision she makes is made voluntarily. She has a family and supportive fans that she gained from the age of 7 in her performances in Norway Good talent and it is clear to everyone that if she wanted more she would have been there. A record company definitely says it does things at its own pace this is also the reason it has signed on to Republic recordings so that it will remain independent in its decisions and not just chase after the big money. She has been singing since the age of a year and a half and she grew up like any normal child in school and with friends and in between she has done so many songs of different kinds that every time you hear her think it is a different voice he sings. Angelinas parents are the opposite of pushy. When she was 5 she was begging them to take her to Norways got Talent (NGT), but they thought she was too young. Same thing at 6.. Then at 7 they allowed her to go, and she went on to win the show.. She LOVES what she's doing and have said so many times in interviews. Her mother have been adamant she have as normal childhood as possible (her school grades have been excellent all the way) and she have turned down over 90% of engagement request for Angelina to give her time to be a child :-)
Angelina became enamored with Jazz because her grandmother loved jazz & obviously at the age of 3 she pushed her parents to sing at Norway’s Got Talent but they thought she was young📌 She sang 4 Jazz songs at Norway’s Got Talent - one of the songs in a cappella.📌 Today she has over 140 covers & a handful of her own original songs. Yes, she arranges her own vocals. Angelina confirmed this herself last week on her Instagram... "ask me a question" (orange 🍊 hoodie) that she arranged Bohemian Rhapsody and most of the things she sings. Her jazz roots, her tone, her determination and work effort makes her a generational singer.

@@branscombeR Not sure if you're trying to discount Angelina's talents or just stating the obvious. I did not say all of the songs she sings are reinvented. Sometimes she sticks very close to the original while other times she reinvents the song, such as Bohemian Rhapsody or Billie Jean. Even if she is close to the original, there are obvious differences. She's not an impersonator or mimic. Adele's 'Easy on Me' is an excellent example of Angelina performing a song with her own nuances (a subtle difference in or shade of meaning, expression, or sound).
Angelina's version of 'Born to Die' follows Lana Del Rey's and yet, they are very different. Angelina has a different tone and conveys much more emotion. Check it out. I thinks she's age 12.

Angelina’s grandmother is a noted artist and poet, and child prodigy herself, so this was not unknown in her family, and yes, Angelina herself has always been the driving force, she told the other girl that she gave her shoes to that her dream was to be a superstar, that was when she was 6, her mother however would not let her audition until she demonstrated she was ready, and she worked hard to get to the point that her mother could no longer deny her an opportunity to audition. However, after she won, her mother and extended family clamped down on access to Angelina to preserve her childhood, but that became increasingly difficult as the music industry became more aware of her, especially when you have people like Quincy Jones requesting her to sing a song he arranged for Frank Sinatra at his 85th birthday celebration, and he and Angelina became fast friends, but they still were able to keep things in check and part of her signing with Republic Records includes her being able to have a normal child, what’s left of it. So there is no concern about her upbringing and her childhood, it has been managed very well, and everyone who interacts with Angelina knows from the beginning that there are guardrails.
She was not and is not pushed. She actually pushed her parents to let her record and enter contests. In fact her family has tried to protect her by holding her back. I suggest you watch her 1st recording at the age of 6, “I Who Have Nothing.” Watch her excitement and enthusiasm in that session and it is quite obvious that she does this because she loved it!
Angelina has been begging for it since she was 3. Angelina is the one driving this train. It’s her parents that have put the brakes things since she won NGT when she was barely 8. Her first NGT video where she sang Gloomy Sunday got 5 million views almost overnight. After she won the offers started coming in but her parents turned down 90% of them, including Disney so as to allow Angelina a normal childhood and education. They have been that way ever since. She didn’t sign a record deal until she was 14 and even then they had to allow her time to finish her school and give her complete control of her art.
She is a child prodigy the likes of which only come along once in a lifetime , or in her case century.
Anyway, have no fear for Angelina. She has been protected as well as you could hope for. She wrote one of her first original songs about it, “Shield”. You should definitely check it out. Her parents and manager deserve an award for how they have navigated these waters for the last decade.

If you read some of the background the fans left in the comments of your last Angelina video, it might be more obvious that it is all her that has driven her singing career. But really, you don't even need the background to know that music is just in her soul. Not only did her parents not force this on her, but I'm not sure that anyone could have stopped her. Angelina's family has handled her unprecedented talent in such a graceful way over the last 10 years.

I like what you say about protecting Angelina's childhood. It must have been incredibly hard. There is a video of Angelina and family and her childhood friends at an amusement park riding the park's feature terrifying ride. BUT the park was closed for the day except for Angelina's crew. Hard to be 'normal' when yer not. And yet I think she is/was the perfect kid.
This young lady is a vocal chameleon. Every time she brings tears in my eyes cause it is so beautiful. Angelina Jordan ASTAR (the name says it all), this young norwegian lady is imo the best singer on the planet! I am 69 y old and have never heard a singer like her in my whole life.
Her little giggle at the end of this one says it all. She does one more AGT performance, Someone Like You, that you might really enjoy because of the way it was set up. While I love so many of hers, the version of I’m Still Holding Out For You, which she sang at 10 and wasn’t intended to be released, is my favorite. Simply fabulous.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RUclips. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan.
The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on RUclips went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
A 9 years and 2 months old, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs.
At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a RUclips video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances.
When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on RUclips. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.

Her family relations are very tight and they think very carefully every step in her career. Her mother is a very nice person but also very protective for Angelina I guess. Her maternal grandmother is also very much involved (she is a famous artist herself) and her uncle is her manager.

You have been told in comments before this one how protective her family is, but what wasn't mentioned is that, even from a very young age, Angelina has had the maturity to understand that the decisions they have made on her behalf were the right ones. If she doesn't find anything she likes then she invents it, modifying the song, but always respecting the author. She never does more than what serves her artistic goal of hers. Angelina wasn't "pushed" into any of this; she does the pushing and makes her own choices. She begged to audition for NGT at 6 (maybe earlier?), but they wouldn't take her until she turned 7 (at which point she pestered her parents to let her go on the show, which she subsequently won). Her parents have insisted she finish school like the rest of the children her age. They’ve also rejected over 90% of the record deals she’s been offered. She also didn’t agree to sign a recording contract with Simon’s company in order to protect her artistic direction. That’s why she didn’t “win” AGT. I don't think you need to worry about Angelina being forced into her career. She herself is the driving force and always has been, while her parents and manager actually keep stepping on the brakes when stepping on the brakes is indicated. She really wanted to sing for Norway's Got Talent when she was 5 years old, but she had to wait until she reached the minimum age of 7. When she won the competition, she and her parents decided that her schooling should take priority over any concerts and her musical career. Her uncle Michael, who manages her, was already working as a music manager in the industry before Angelina became famous. Her family is very eager to protect Angelina, but also supports her unconditionally, for example, moving almost the entire family from Oslo to Los Angeles. They turned down all record contracts, including Simon Cowell and Disney, for example, until they found a company that agreed with their terms, Republic Records. It is expected that Angelina will finish her schooling this summer and after that her record label will really push her career, including CD release, media hype and concerts.

Dan...as a father of a prodigy (basketball), I understand your angst. I understand the concern of parents projecting at their special children. My kid was dribbling a basketball before walking( he was doing it while crawling). My child pushed us on playing from the get go. We have challenge him when he needed and always allowed him to back out.... if wanted (There were defiantly times, and each time he brought us back). From what I have seen in Angelina, is pretty much the same. I think you need start from the get go with her. There is video (like most prodigy parents we have film lol). I think you will feel the same once you start watch and listen. Her mother and grandmother have raised her and I think from my perspective they raised a great kid who cares.

Some facts about Angelina. First, her family, Her maternal grandmother (Mary) is Iranian (Angelina speaks Farsi). So, by now she already speaks at least 3 languages (Norwegian, English, and Farsi, in an interview I heard that she learned German in the school - I am almost sure that I have seen a video of her speaking in Spanish) - she lived in the Middle East, Norway and LA. She had countless concerts in Norway, Sweden, Germany, England, Qatar, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Brazil, and the North Pole. (So much I found out - probably there are more) In Seoul she opened the concert for Norah Jones, she performed for Norway Prime Minister royalties, President of US, on Quincy Jones's birthday concert, and appeared in many TV shows.
