  • This video is a summary of our ultralight through hike of the 140 km Padjelanta Trail in Northern Sweden, beyond the Arctic Circle in summer. The direction of our through hike was from Ritsem to Kvikkjokk.
We flew from Budapest to Stockholm, we took the night train and a bus to Ritsem where the boat carried us to the Padjelanta.
    0. day: we got to the trail around 7pm, so we only hiked about 3 kms
    1. day: we made a 34km day till the surroundings of Laddejakha
    2. day: Laddejakha - Arasluokta - Staloluokta 25kms
    3. day: Staloluokta - Duottar - Darreluoppal 30kms
    4. day: Darreluoppal - Sammarlappa 15 kms, my friend had health issues so we stopped at Sammarlappa for lunch and did not finish the plans for the day, we took a room and he spent the afternoon there sleeping while I was enjoying this beautiful place. We were there for the night, the next morning Andy felt better so we decided to push until the end and hiked all day to reach the end of the trail where the boat took us to Kvikkjokk. (We arranged an extra boat trip on the phone when we got reception finally in Njunjes 13 km from the end)
We were basically wild camping. Our camping spots were just amazing.

Good question Rolf. :) I have kids back home, and András has a job where he had to get back. Getting there is not easy you know. Flight to Stockholm, overnight train to the North, bus from there. When we were there we had the feeling that it would have been better to hike it in 7-8 days, and maybe wasn’t a great idea to do it in 5 days. Nobody we met had the same plan. We were called the crazy hungarians by Swedish hikers. :)) But honestly… we didn’t feel we were in a rush. Or only sometimes. Perhaps when András got sick and we had to stop in Sammarlappa for the night. It was really good spending whole days hiking for 5 days. We did these kind of days of 25-30km hiking back home also. Anyway… as I mentioned it would have been nice to be on the trail for 7-8 days. We could have enjoyed nature and the whole Swedish Lapland more which we missed. We missed enjoying it, the time to just be there (with the mosquitos :) ) and I missed the free time for making videos.

I will definetely be back in the Swedish Lapland. I’m in love with it. I’ll be back on the Padjelanta with my kids when they get older. The Kungsleden I have to hike when I have more time.
