I did a 1500 mile tour ride from Detroit to central Nebraska then to Kansas with a trailer with 120 pounds of stuff. Bicycle tires on trailer wear out, had to get a trailer with the hard plastic tires. Early snow stopped my trip, but I did make it to Utah by Amtrak. Nebraska cowboy trail was awesome.
We've done the trail every year since 2018. Love the C&O. It is getting busier every year. The Paw Paw detour is brutal. Can't imagine pushing a trailer up it. Just an FYI, once the tunnel opens it is barely the width of a trailer, so don't enter if it's occupied. Also, some lights are required as it is long and dark. We always stay at the Ramada in Cumberland. It's very nice, bikes are allowed in your room, walking distance to downtown and half the price of other hotels near the trail.
I did the C&O towpath in the early 2000’s. I am going back in May to do the GAP and C&O for my 70th birthday. I plan on taking my time. No need to be back at work, no kids along with me that need to be back at school. Been training for 6 months to get in shape. I still have 4 months to train. I’m really looking forward to the trip. The Paw Paw tunnel has been a challenge for some time. The river washes out the trail below the tunnel pretty regularly. We encountered a detour around the tunnel on one of our trips that took us out on nearby roads that were pretty steep. One trip the mud on the trail was bad enough that we stopped at Fort Frederick and hosed off the bikes and ourselves. The Western Maryland trail really provided a nice break when it was built.
That's fantastic! Happy early birthday and we hope you enjoy your ride! We would have liked to see the paw paw tunnel but the detour was beautiful as well!
Thank you! We were warned about the detour but didn't realize how big of a hike it would be over the mountain! Hopefully it's finished for you, it'd be nice to ride through it!
You guys should do the Erie Canal tow path in the fall. A lot of farming along the way with small towns that still welcome longboat tourists. It is also paved more and better maintained than the one you ate on. Might enjoy
Thomas, we have been checking out the Empire State Trail we rode a small section of it near NYC. We would probably start at the Canadian border ride to Albany then over to Buffalo! It is on the list. It seems like it would be a fun ride. This fall we have the Arkansas High Country Route in our sites!
Kudos for going up and down the paw paw bypass with the dog in tow. Did the C&O last August and this was difficult with just a loaded bike. Looking forward to the rest of this series.
Hi, love your guys adventures, especially with the Doggo, they love seeing the world just as much a we do!!! 👍 I'm getting ready to start, I guess pushing myself(my friends/family say I'm PUNISHING MYSELF, there's a difference! 😆) I'm walking out my front door next month or in May to the from Reno to Vegas, or Reno to SLC Utah for my first trip, I also plan on filming it using my insta360 X3, do you have any tips/tricks, because I don't think people understand all the extra work & re riding pieces of the trail for B Roll footage & the like, so adds more to it than just riding the trail..... I was lying in bed this time, dying from Covid, twice in 2021, then being diagnosed with Long Covid, so it's been an uphill battle the last 2 years, so I'm doing this as closure on that chapter of my life, & to hopefully bring more awareness to Long Covid, & hopefully get some much needed research on, it's really a debilitating disease, & ruining millions of Americans lives still, mine included. I'm a single father of an 8yo boy, so that made my recovery that much harder, especially at 48 myself! 😂
Thanks for watching! So sorry to hear about long COVID. We got COVID over a month ago and still feel tired. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be. Really excited to hear about your upcoming trip. The best advice we can give you is if you want to start RUclips you just need to be really passionate about filming, editing, and putting in the work because it is a ton of work. We have been working on our channel for almost two and a half years and we are still very much a baby channel. But we love filming our adventures and learning new skills and challenging ourselves to get better. We absolutely love our pup and all our adventures are built to include our dogs (current and former). Our pups are never happier than when we are out adventuring! Lastly, B roll makes things way more interesting so I may add mileage but you will be glad you have it.

I love your bike tour series!! ❤
Thank you!
@@suits2sandals No problem!! Are you ever going to visit the UK by the way?
This hiker-biker detour was pretty intense but you did it. I hope that tunnel is open when I finally get to ride this. Great first day. Nicely done! 👍
