Great video, but one of my replacement P340kc fuel pumps lasted 3 days. You get what you Pay for...

Thank you for a great video and very informative 👍🏻 Amazing...! I have a 95 C4 with 95,000 miles and the engine makes a popping sound when the motor is in full Throttle... like it's not getting enough fuel... so I changed the original Fuel Filter and the Electric Fuel Pump and it still does it... the new electric fuel pump is a (Percision Fuel Pump Kit)....Any ideas?

if given the choice, would you buy this motor as a crate engine and try to put it in a similarly aged GM vehicle? I have the option to buy one of these 5.7L's for like $10k with a tremec 6sp and the motor has less than 20k miles on it (according to seller)
Do you think it would be a good project to squeeze it in an S10 chasis?

its a super cool motor- it really depends on what you are looking for. I would think you could LS swap for much cheaper (but that's not very original). you can make more power for cheaper with the LS as well. But, i love the idea of doing an lt5. Def document it if you go that route. i'd love to see that project.

      Hi DefreshS10
As the owner of a 1990 ZR-1 since 2018 and have gone thru this machine bumper to bumper I would choose the LT5. This engine is a masterpiece. During development GM required LOTUS to put this engine through 200 hours of durability testing, from idle to over 7k rpms and everything in-between. LOTUS thought this was insanity , but it survived , even excelled. This engine set records that still stand today for a mass produced car. It's as close to bulletproof as you will find. Every engine was hand built and dynoed to spec.
There are a few parts that are a premium, the cam sensor being one ,but most parts can be found if you need something. Just make sure to get the ECM for that engine. I'm not sure about the CCM , there are several people way more knowledgeable than I.
My car had 74k miles when I bought it and I have driven her 7k miles since May 2020. I do all the work on her myself and have learned a ton about this whole machine. Mark Hailbeck is a wealth of knowledge and is very helpful if you reach out to him.
It would be a very unique build if you decide on the LT5. They are very well engineered engines.
The NCM has a video posted on YT of the showroom stock LT5 limited to 70% WOT , carrying 300 lbs of spare parts setting the 24 hour world speed endurance record along with the 5k and 5k mile records. Which still stand. It gives a great perspective of what these men and the C4 ZR-1 accomplished.
      America's forgotten Supercar.
      Still King of the Hill.
Sorry for the long post , these machines are very special , and the man that posted this video has a beautiful example.👍👍🏁🏁

I just aquired a 90 Zr-1 with 40k miles that was stored for 17yrs. Do you think I should change the fuel pumps? Thanks for the video

great car! congrats. A lot of people probably wouldn't replace them until they were bad. for me, it was about $50 and a couple hours worth of work. so it made sense. Cheap insurance.

I’ll agree, and of course drain the fuel, and change all other fluids. The nice thing/benefit, the early cars do not use Dexcool antifreeze. Congratulations on your find. I’m working on saving a 32k mile 91. Epic cars. If you aren’t already, get familiar with Haibeck, and Jerry’s.

This car is so damn beautiful. I love it! That color! I’m still working under my plenum, but I’m deleting secondaries, and throttle body coolant. Enjoying your videos while I’m taking a break.

@@JohnMartin-uk6bi I am def not opposed to removing the secondaries. Trying to keep things as factory as possible but I have issues w mine I’m going to eliminate them. Good luck w you car!

@@madmatsterc4 I was chasing a vac leak, imagine that. I have kept, and clearly labeled all of my parts so it can be returned to original if the next owner desires. I wanted to make plenum pulls an easier task which is why I’m blocking the coolant at the injector housing. Mostly I just enjoy creating more winter projects, gives me time to watch other builds.
