      When I was 5, I asked my mom if she would buy me a plastic necklace at a gas station. She told me no, so I put it in my pocket before we left. I got away with it no problem, got home, nobody was any the wiser. I stole that necklace, dude. I stole it so good. Only problem was that I got away with it. The guilt started to eat me alive. I became so paranoid I had to unload my contraband so I buried it in the backyard.
      All this to say, if I cheated to beat that dude and then he was that nice to me, the guilt may have ended my life. I couldn't handle it 😭

    • @gregoryent
      @gregoryent 9 months ago +87

      @NotForHire42 As someone who also knows very little about chess, I am going to assume 650 is referring to his rating in chess elo. Anything below 1000 you are essentially a novice, with grandmasters being around 2500 elo. Accuracy is just the percentage of the best possible moves taken. Essentially if a computer were to be playing from Dr. Lupo's position after he lost his queen, they would make the exact same moves, 100% of the time. Anything above 50% for someone who is a novice would be fantastic, but 100%? Its essentially ridiculously obvious Lupo was cheating to even people barely familiar with chess.

    • @dotseth6492
      @dotseth6492 9 months ago +8

      In chess your rating goes down when you win. So 600 is like super king of the earth bad ass and 1200 is normies like us who sorta know how the pieces move. The 100 percent thing is what the computer says the optimum move is, because it can see every possible board state from there into the future. So if someone like lupo, who is a 1200 rating moron, can play the perfect move 27 times in a row, when the best in the world 600 rating players can not make the perfect move 27 times across an entire tournament.

    • @YeeLeeHaw
      @YeeLeeHaw 9 months ago +7

      @Arclightning All popular multiplayer first person plinkers are riddled with cheaters, and I wouldn't say it's not streamer specific since there is a big financial incentive for them to cheat with very little risk getting caught, and even if they get caught the laws are pretty much nonexistent or not enforced at all (despite it being severe fraud) and they don't tend to lose as many viewers either if they're already popular. You can also say that the games that have the most sophisticated anticheat, cheating streamers got an even bigger advantage since they can afford expensive tailor made cheating software resulting in less competition from cheating amateurs using vanilla software.

Imo, if you need cheats, it means you're not good at something and if you're not good at it then you have no reason to feel ashamed at losing lol it's expected. If you actually want to become good then learn & play good competition, don't cheat. However, if you're going to cheat and not disclose it because your intentions if to try and get away with it, never confess unless they can prove it with 100% facts to back it up😂

      @TheSuperappelflap I hear that a lot but as someone who plays online video games and is decent at them, getting called a cheater can be scary because if enough people believe it you get banned from the server. I don't really understand psychology enough to know the right balance between brushing it off and defending oneself. It's happened to me a few times and it's the worst feeling in the world, nothing like a compliment because you are both barred from playing and your efforts and skills are invalidated by your peers. It's genuinely hurtful to me.

      When people say they "got lucky" in chess, they don't mean that the outcome of their moves or the outcome of the game was dependent on luck. What they mean is they selected their move based on luck, ie they picked random moves which turn out to be good. Of course this isn't a case of that, since he cheated lol
      Yeah chess is all skill, but if you have no skill, your moves are basically random. If I guess my way through a multiple choice math test, knowing zero material, and score a 90%, did I get lucky? Of course I got lucky, even though math is all logic.

    The fact he thought this was a valid excuse shows how dumb he is. Chess isn't horse racing, where you can get lucky and guess the winning 1/10 number a few times in a row, then lose the rest of the time and no one bats an eye. The amount of possible moves you could make in chess, if you were just blind guessing, makes the statistical improbability of guessing the perfect move to make 20+ in a row astronomically high.

    8:39 It's better to think of Elo ratings as logarithmic so "more than double" is meaningless - the difference between 600 and 1300 is the same as the difference between 2000 and 2700. Every 400 points change the probability of winning 10-fold. 760 difference gives 1:10^(760/400) odds which means Wolfey was expected to win 98.8% of the time.

    • @psymar
      @psymar 9 months ago +15

      Yep. Although I think it's not quite the same odds in practice at lower ratings as weaker players also tend to have more variance in their play.
      Not saying he wasn't cheating, but 600-point upsets do happen, especially if the better player is tired/drunk and the weaker player had a better night of sleep than normal, etc.

      100% accuracy only happens in certain types of games if you are only 2000 elo. At 650 its more than sus.

    • @misterree
      @misterree 9 months ago +2

      @deltalima6703
      It depends. I only hit 1000 or so elo, but I've had about 98% accuracy in a single game of 30+ moves. The opening was basic and my opponent (around 1000) made bad blunders that were easily punished. I'm still bad at the game, but if the opponent blunders bad enough, there's sometimes an obvious enough move to punish. Did they hang a knight? Only move is usually to capture for free. After that, they might have hung more easy moves that resulted in a close to 100% game. If the blunder is bad enough, especially hanging a queen, then accuracy goes out the window and most players can punish anything after that.

    • @sam2725
      @sam2725 9 months ago +3

      Pretty accurate, but for every 400 points, the expected score is 9-1, not the win probability, since that also accounts for draws.
      Also since high rated players make more draws, a 1k is slightly more likely to beat a 600, then a 2k is to beat a 1.6k. Even though their expected scores are the same

    • @deltalima6703
      @deltalima6703 9 months ago +1

      @misterree Yes, those are the types of games where it happens. The problem is at 650 you cant even find hanging pieces half the time, nevermind forks and tactics.

      @matth8985This is my analysis of the psychology of someone who is trying to get away with cheating. You want to bring less attention to the possibility of cheating, making the chance of an investigation lower.

    • @Ahayeahishere
      @Ahayeahishere 9 months ago

      @matth8985 it is suspicious. Literally. And you know that. For example a friend group sits there and someone asks who farted after smelling it.. everyone laughing and now one of the friends is extremely defensive and focuses on it so hard.. its obvious who did it then and that goes for a lot of situations. Maybe you are a very defensive person that will always defend yourself but most people dont defend themselves for things that they know they havent done and they know they dont have to prove their innocence. And same for court, cause you dont have to prove your innocence there. If you havent done anything wrong then you are safe and therefore have no need for lengthy explainations or whatever, cause the proof has to come from the accuser that a crime has been commited and they have to proof it pretty much without any reasonable doubt. The person that is being accused doesnt have to proof their innocence at all and that wouldnt even work or make sense. Now there are complicated situations where people fight and its a battle, csuse one person says something and the other says something else and the lawyers both interpret the law differently and then you have to fight to "win" but thats something else. The fact remains that overly defensiveness and focus on accusations is a very clear sign of someone having done something wrong

    • @matth8985
      @matth8985 9 months ago +16

      @AhayeahishereThis comment is a little ironic, you came at me pretty personally, and accused me of being dishonest by saying people defending themselves isn't suspicious, even though I "know that [it is suspicious]", but here is where I might defend myself! Because I wasn't dishonest, I really believe that. And idk what you're talking about not needing to defend yourself in court, you know there's a prosecution... and a defense? And really, there's no need to be so aggressive, especially right out of the gate on the first reply, even if you disagree. But bottom line, the idea that defending yourself is suspicious just kinda means any accusation would just be believed instantly, and that's obviously not good. People should be able to give their side of the story

    Theres an explanation for the blunder. The notation for his opponents move before the blunder is Nxd4 (knight takes on d4). Then he proceeds to play Nxd4 himself. Very likely he mixed up the move that had been played with the move the computer was recommending.

    • @pacmonster066
      @pacmonster066 9 months ago +86

      Based on Lupo's skill level I doubt this is what happened.
      First because he doesn't look at the left monitor when Wolfie made his move to check what to do.
      Second because just giving the recommended move via the notation is difficult for a newer player to understand. So they'd be making the same error multiple times in other spots.
      Most chess cheat engines don't just give a text notation of where to move, they visually show what to do.
      What it looked like to me is he saw the knight undefended and in his inexpensive thought Wolfie made a mistake. Forgetting that his knight was blocking the bishop. He figured the cheat engine would have told him to take the unprotected knight so he didn't think he had to confirm. His reaction of *immediately looking left* after his queen was taken suggests he was looking at what the cheat engine actually suggested but didn't follow it. So he felt extra stupid in that moment.

      He even uses the normal cheater streamer mocking from tarkov. The whole oo i looked to my left i must be cheating i looked this way i must be cheating. I swear every cheater who streams with a webcam says this. Now drlupo is copying them XD.

      He also cheated in Destiny 1 by using XIM (keyboard/mouse on console). He has quite a history of this stuff.

      @maxr9409 For people who don't know what this is, it allows you to play with a keyboard and mouse. That's it. There was no rule against doing so at the time, and it was probably just his preferred way to play fps games. So this is just going out of your way to find 'dirt'.
      It was incredibly dumb that he did this. I think he's streamed twice since it all went down.
      But let's be clear that there's essentially no evidence that he's cheated at other games. He regularly plays with m&k in view. It appears to have been entirely an ego driven decision where he didn't want to seem dumb in front of his audience and is used to being good at games but recognized he was struggling with chess.
      He plays (or at least was playing) MTG pretty regularly on stream and is relatively decent at it.
      Dude just couldn't take not being good at the game in such a public tournament. And didn't really think through the consequences in the moment.

      @t3hsilarnUsing a xim on console is 100% cheating. You still get aim assist because the game thinks a controller is plugged in. This isn’t even up for debate.

      @t3hsilarn Playing with keyboard and mouse against console players is seeking an advantage...gamepads just can't match the accuracy. If that was his preferred way of playing Destiny, then he should've stuck to the PC version where there was a more level playing field. Trying to rationalise that as not cheating is disingenuous at best.

    Bringing the time honored Tarkov tradition of cheating to chess then gaslighting anyone who calls you out. Classic.

    You missed the best part. After Lupo wins one of the games and he wants to celebrate, he says something along the lines of "hold on, let me pull up chat."
    Implying that he did not have any chat up during the game, which immediately invalidated his claim that he pulled moves from chat.
    I didnt need any of the follow up. Once i heard him say both of those things, I knew he used an engine.
    Wonder what else he cheats at.... Is he married?...

      @ZulousOG Honestly as soon as i heard he was a fortnite player, i wasnt shocked he was a cheater; not in that the two are intrinsically linked, but its not the least bit surprisin that a fortnite streamer wud be the one to cheat at smth like this - where the pts matter even less than on whose line is it anyway

      Yeah, but even then, I honestly don't understand why his defence is that he was seeing chat moves lol, it's literally him saying "sure, I cheated, but using a different method" as if that somehow makes it not as bad.

    These dummies dont realize " luck" doesn't exist in chess. There are no variables. You and your opponent are on a 100% level playing field.

      Anything involving humans has luck, because humans are not predictable. Sometimes they accidentally do something brilliant, or something stupid. This is especially prominent when you’re dealing with less experienced players.
      Of course, the odds that someone who is inexperienced would stumble into more than 1 or 2 engine moves are very low, but the fact remains that humans aren’t computers.
