I loved zen guitar. Totally what I needed when I first started making music. I remember a page where the author encouraged sending him an email. Made me sad to find out he died when I was too young to read the book. I sent an email anyway and ended up getting a nice response from his wife about a year later!

Modern Recording Techniques was one of my college textbooks too. Worth it!
I have the same magazine. I picked up from my friend parents magazine collection. I kept it with me through out the years as a valuable music tool
I use those Berklee Press reading studies books too. My reading improved significantly because of them!

I would also include ultimate guitar, they have tabs for basically every song ever
Depends what you want out of your playing. If you aim to be serious. I would use it as a resource to compare what you transcribed as tab for whatever song.
However if you just want to learn how to play some beginner songs casually. Gopher it.
Finally some serious Christmas wishlist :D
I think.i got a good teacher I've had 2 lessons in the last 2 weeks I progressed more then I ever have hes a metal player and I am totally NOT a metal player but his lessons have brought this prospect that added new layers to my playing very fast and having a decent knowledge of music theory has made my lessons flow so well it's amazing

Wow, I actually have that guitar world issue! I tried to do the 10 hour workout when I just started learning guitar But I wasn’t comfortable enough with the guitar. Well I think it’s time I dig that magazine out of whatever box I packed it into!
If only most of us could afford a guitar teachers. Best option is the various self teaching books.

I've used guitar pro for writing my tab. However, it seems easier to write it on tab paper instead, so I switched back to it. I just need to get these riffs or songs I come up with written down quick after creation before they're forgotten, and just for whatever reason, using software to do it, is just too slow. I think I can go to the software after it's paper maybe...but not rush.

How does that John Lennon book compare to other publications analysing the music theory of Beatles songs? Such as "The Songwriting Secrets of The Beatles" by Dominic Pedler (a really thorough illustration of loads of music theory concepts from beginner primer up), "The Beatles as Musicians" by Walter Everett (far more advanced!), and Pollack's free online "Notes on..." series (a collected series of Usenet posts analysing every Beatles song - and also one of the main resources I still use for learning the songs' chords).

Do you have any book recommendations for bass guitar?
Hal Leonard Bass Method Books 1-3 is pretty good
Also Bass Aerobics is a good 'fitness' book for bass
If you're pursuing some more technique books, check out the website Bassline Publishing. They have many books that you can check out online to purchase and they're really self-explanatory for what they'll teach. Also they make two Giants of Bass which is really worth checking out if you want to get into the styles of different bassists from the 60s to the 90s - I own these books and can vouch for it.
Also, I really recommend learning how to do walking bass. You may not like the style but it can really help your playing if you do learn it. Chris Fitzgerald's Walking Bassline pdf is really good and can be found online free for download.

I always wanted to play guitar but the beginning seemed so slow and frustrating. With Yousician, practicing became motivating and fun. I learned more in 1 week than I on my own in 3 months!
My best resources growing up; a subscription to Total Guitar magazine, Sound on Sound, Music Tech, Guitar Techniques, Computer Music, etc etc.

Oh man, my experience with guitar teachers has been awful. My tastes in music are wide, but when it comes to how I'd like to play there are only a few names that come to my mind and those are David Gilmour, John Mayer, Jack White, Morello and Edge... But try to explain that to the guy with wearing a Satriani shirt and an white Ibanez RG. That guy gave me a "poor idiot" kind of look and then asked me "do you settle for that?". That's why in almost 20 years I've never had a serious guitar teacher and I have taught myself through practice, even though I'm not really aware of theory :(
Im about to type a lot but stick with me. There are a lot of RUclips resources for theory, and online in general. If you get the fundamentals of how chords are constructed from scales. And what notes belong in certain chords. Then some extentsions. Common chord progressions. You can get a pretty good idea of what's going on in a song to at least chisle away at it. Especially once you figure out the key of a song, or what part of the song is in a said key. I've been playing for about 2 years. I've been focusing a lot on ear training.
I recommend once you do get those things down to some understanding. Get on Spotify. And just listen to one person in particular. Especially if they're also a singer songwriter. They tend to use the same keys a lot. John Mayer for example I've come to find out usually sticks to C major G maj, D Maj, A Major, E major. And their relative minors respectably. (Check out the circle of 5ths because those keys follow exactly that) From some songs I've picked out.
Check out. Who did you think I was? By John Mayer. It's in A major. And switches to F# minor. At parts
(It's relative minor. 6th note of the scale.) He'll even descend the F# minor scale before going back to the main riff.

I own the real book but have no clue on how to use it? Can you make a lesson series on applying the real book
Just play it. Start with some easy ones. E.g Sunny, Autumn leaves, Beautiful love. Or just songs you know from before. If you can sing the melody, everything is easier. Chord charts are in the end of the book

I've noticed how I've been treated over the years compared to my male counterparts. I'm not an extreme feminist. But yes I've noticed some major differences. I wasn't always horrible looking either I don't get it. I just try to keep to myself these days. All of my happier memories revolve around my sister and my ex going to Guitar Emporium and they'd sit in the soundbooth. He'd play Nirvana and Foo fighters and I would make up horrible sounds I hated my own voice from the beginning. My sister said I sounded good. So did he but I don't know. It didn't affect people the way I hoped. I wanted to evoke emotions of surrender and beauty. But it never happened that way. Except for my current partner sort of
