What a beautiful Paddle Steamer. I really enjoyed seeing and watching the engine work. That was awesome! Thank you for taking us with you and I hope y'all have a bless week.
Thanks for the adventure. I love the old paddle boat. We were on a small one here somewhere in Ohio. It had the wheel in the back. It has been so long we can't remember where.
Oh no yarn nightmare! :D I think I'd have spent the whole journey in the engine room!! Fascinating. So cool you got to stand in the heart of the ship - very jealous!
That was gorgeous. What a great day out. We actually have a mini break planned for July to visit Tobermory…the Ontario, Canada one. We’ll be taking a cruise too but no paddle steamer I’m afraid.
HEY.....I live close to Tobermory. Will you take the Chi-Cheemaun up to South Bay mouth or Manitoulin? If you get a chance you should check out Fathom Five Park.
What a lovely trip! The world may need that old technology someday. It’s fascinating! I saw that you passed a hovercraft. I took one of those from Dover to France about forty years ago. I did not like it. Waves slapping the windows beside your face is very disconcerting. Thanks for taking us along, if I may borrow a British expression, it was brilliant!
Funnily enough it will be forty years ago in July that I travelled from Dover to France on the hovercraft too. It was pretty rough - windy but sunny but I really enjoyed it! The spray made rainbows in the sunshine.
What a beautiful adventure. Thanks for visiting the engine room. The sound of the engine is so hypnotizing. I could listen to it all day. Cool seeing it come to a stop also. Really nice of the man to let you in for a closer look. The rest was ok too! I did wave to Sarah and Willie.
Thank you for taking us on this wonderful cruise. The view of the 1930's-1940's engine in operation was fascinating. (I too was excited by the mechanical brilliance of the engine.)
Was on that day and it got sunnier as the day went on. You should have had your wine as it was a good few hours before Oban.I got a Tobermory jigsaw in Tobermory for rainy days!
Great video. Never been on the Waverley but got to see it on Bute last year. Would love to one day do this same little cruise. Loved your enthusiasm for seeing the engines 👍
At 19.40 you show the binacle where they place a compass in case the steering at the wheelhouse fails and they steer from the large wheel ar the stern.
Thanks for doing a Waverly voyage, loved every bit of this video, Aye, Cracken, every bit was full of adventure and fun. This will be rewatched many times. Cider pretty good, not to strong eh? Serious question, did / does Waverly 'blow the whistle' several minutes to announce pending departure from Iona?
Mull and Iona are were my dad's ancestry came from. They were in Scotland until the clearances of 1849....at which point my gr gr grandmother came to Canada along with her siblings and parents. The rest of the large family stayed behind. My MacDonald family came from Mull and married a MacGillivray who was from Iona....(my great great grandmother's parents.) They came over as a group of nine people. The fact they were offered 200 acres of free land to settle and clear was a big draw. My gr gr grandmother met a man from Fife (Alex Anderson) who came over five years after she did. They married and that is why my DNA report says I am mostly Scottish DNA in my veins. (My mom's dad was a Brown from Kirkcaldy,) They all ended up by the great lakes here in Canada.
What a wonderful day out! Thank you for taking us along with you. 🚢🛟⚓️
Thanks for watching.

It's special isn't it. Our firs time but wont be the last.
Oh no yarn nightmare! :D I think I'd have spent the whole journey in the engine room!! Fascinating. So cool you got to stand in the heart of the ship - very jealous!
It's the noise and the feeling of the pulse through the ship. I could easily have stayed there all day.
@@scotlandonashoestring can't beat that sound!
@@scotlandonashoestring It helps that the bar is right next to the engines…
Lovely trip and I'd respond the same way standing over those. Just glad you didn't drop the camera.
I only thought about that afterwards. That could have been expensive :)
Love your videos! Thanks for sharing the wonderful views of Scotland. I wished I was there on the boat with you.
It was a special day for sure.
Visiting Iona is one of my life goals. But I would be thrilled to be on your journey! Thank you for bringing us along. Best from Madison WI (USA)
We've never been but it's definitely on the list.
You will love Iona. Try to stay overnight. It’s magical when all the day-trippers leave .

This time we’re just going to see the shipwrecks and Flower Pot Island. We want to do the Chichimaun in the future. :)
@@sandiandgregh It's a great place to explore and the nature is unparalleled .... have fun.
One day we'll make it to Canada. Bex has family over there.

Thank you! The old girl is better than any of that modern technology.
I too travelled to France by hovercraft many years ago. It was like riding side saddle on a washing machine.

The engine was amazing. It took ages to stop though :)

They’re just so complicated yet also so simple. Loved seeing them.
Great video, glad you were able to get somewhat closer to those beautiful engines.
That was incredible. The sound and the heat.. never forget that.
I enjoyed how excited you were about the engine. And I had to laugh at Becks' response when you left your bag downstairs. 😄
Excited? Me? Pfft.
That was fantastic
Thank you !!

She’s a really interesting machine. Great way to spend a day!

Thank you!! I thought it was some sort of aft control thing.

Yes!! she blew it on arrival and before she headed off. I missed it every time apart from the first one, when i was behind the funnel. Oops.
Great Video 👍 but was a little concerned at 9:12 there was a bunch of slaves
😅😅😅😅😅
I edited them out.

Wow, a far flung family. It's always nice to see where your ancestors come from.
