What is wrong with my broken 2012 Fisker Karma?

- My 2012 Fisker Karma EV-ER is broken.
It will not boot up. Stuck in park. The Li-Ion battery is charged. New 12V battery. The start button will not light up. The touch screen will not light up. The green P R N D lights occasionally flash. The door locks work. Some of the lights and horn work.
Any ideas!?

@@t.l.2100 ECU (computer under left dash) had to be removed and reflashed by the Fisker GOAT in Philly. Then 2 battery cells and some related things were replaced by the Fisker GOAT in Tucson.
You put a new 12volt battery and now your battery cell is charge you Can now unplugged your 12volt battery for 5minutes to doma reset on your memory
No this car required a computer reset out of the car
Hold the brake pedal firmly down, press and hold the start button till dash comes on. Hope this helps

I had to remove the computer and send it away to be reflashed. I don't think holding the button would work.

yes I shipped with VCM to Joe and he woke it up. The car is running now but has no EV battery life.

Have you looked at your MSD (master disconnect)? Make sure that it is seated all the way. It can look like it is seated when it really isn't. I remember working on my Karma during the HV battery repair and it acted just like that after I was done and I tried to fire it up for the first time after the battery change. When my car did exactly what you show, the key fob was not in proximity to the car. Same things you describe, no glove box door opening, no power up, no shifting. I would be willing to bet that it has something to do with the fob. There are two things the key fob does. It sends the signal to lock/unlock/trunk/panic ( I think 415 Mhz), and it has a proximity circuit that gets excited when near the sensor. I would take it apart and see if you have water damage to the fob. Did you get two fobs? Try the other one.
thanks. MSD under the back seat? I will check. You're supposed to disconnect the 12v before messing with the MSD I think. Only 1 FOB! I will open it up carefully. It works for lock unlock trunk.
opened FOB. Looks clean and dry. no corrosion or anything. Revolution said to send him the VCM and key. Probably worth a try.
pulled the MSD today (after unhooking the 12V), it was seated. Pulled, checked continuity, push back in place. Next step is pulling the VCM and sending to Philly Joe for a reflash.
@@gregs_garage I remember hearing that if the car sits too long and the 12V battery completely depletes that the VCM will lose it's "wake-up signal". This has always had me concerned and I keep a battery tender on the car at all times. I looked into your issue again and when the driver door is opened, the cluster should illuminate and a chime should sound indicating the door open. The power button will then illuminate and pushing it will start the car and allow the infotainment system to power up. You are not hearing the chime when the door is open. Did Joe Ferrante say anything to you about the VCM losing the "wake-up signal" after long term storage?
@@afternoongarage Joe said it looks like the VCM needs a re-flash. I assume this means he will put it in a good car, and wake it up and send it back to me. Sending to Joe is my next step. I even found a nice box and foam packaging.

@@joshb2812 yes perhaps. This car is now sorted. I trailered it to a specialist in the U.S. and had it fixed 100%. The specialist spoke very highly of it and the overall condition and the battery is top notch. 45 miles range which is the most he has seen. There are a few cosmetic things like wheel scuffs and 3M paint protection to deal with. New tires are due also although it drives well as is.
It's one of the best Fisker Karmas out there overall.
Do you have any tutorial how to dismount the VCM? I have exactly the same problem after 3 weeks vacation and 12V battery deep discharged. I need to dismount the VCM and send it to be re-flashed.
It is not fun. Mounted up above left kick panel. There is a bracket and about 10 plugs to remove. It is hard to reach but do-able. Do not mix up the 2 front plugs as they are the same and will fry the VCM if you mix them up. There is a PDF somewhere showing all this.

I got the nuts off but can’t slide the vcm out what so ever. Did you remove brake? Or one plug at a time?
@@supreme_kakashi_4219 yes it is fun. Start taking the plugs out. There are about 10 of them.
Thank you. I had the 12 volt battery changed by removing wheel and front fender liner, ( regular 12 volt battery) discounted and connect the master disconnected and the car reset and working fine. Prior to changing the battery I had the same problem and the dash lights would partially remain on as per-video, but even if car was in turn off mode. Car is repaired and stored for the winter. I will look for the best option to buy a new HV battery pack, I enjoy this car and will be keeping it.
Is it easy to find repair shops in my area for this car? I want to get one but scared I can’t find someone to fix it if it breaks down
What is your area? There are very few individuals who know how to work on these.

yes it is running now that I got the VCM reflashed. I plan to make a video. I think it has battery issues, though. It's a long term project.

@@johnkimber4027 I plan on doing some vids of the Fisker. I have been driving it a lot lately but wondering how to film it. The more I drive it the more I appreciate the quality. These are very good cars. This week on a trip I rented a 2024 Hyundai Elantra and a 2024 Chrysler Pacifica van. Both feel like absolute garbage compared to the 12-year old Fisker. The van feels like garbage compared to my 2013 Honda Odyssey.

UPDATE: I removed the VCM under the left kick panel area up left of the steering wheel. Sent to the expert to wake it up. Now the car works but has no battery life. The HV battery has issues.
