    I've been wanting to do this for years now. I think I may finally try to do it. Cassette tapes really do look so much cooler when they look like reel to reel tapes.

  • @JohnBoonBeanDutchman
    @JohnBoonBeanDutchman 3 года назад +5

    It may look nice, but due to the friction on the reel the tape will usually slow down and therefore not play smoothly and it may also can generate a bit static voltage

    Very nice. I have a new appreciation for this type of art. This gives me all kinds of ideas including *not* cutting holes in the reels, but instead coloring them- which can then change colors when the reel spins by coloring 2 circles on the plastic sheet that comes with a stock tape.

    Awesome idea! Thank you TE for sharing this with us. Thank you also for sharing the pdf template! I use this idea for tuning up my older cassettes. However, remaining tape can be reused in some older cassettes with bad tape. Also, can be used 30' or 45' cassettes. Robert - Romania.

    Like your video,but didn't like your waste of tape-very skilled in doing these fancy reels,but seemingly having to sacrifice,some tape on that other reel,surely there's got to be a better way of doing that(without sacrificing any tape whatsoever ???).

    I like the way this looks afterward, but is it worth it if you have to remove some of the tape to make it work? and I agree that using regular adhesive tape to splice tape is nt a good idea.

    • @sevcaczech5961

      you should use only cheap tapes around $1-1,5 or old destroyed tapes you don't listen to anymore. You re-built few cassettes for your joy, not all the chrom/metal tapes with good quality recordings.

    Wasting this tape is pointless. It will be better to buy 60 tape or leave it like that.

    Good idea. But I'm just gonna make "dummy" model reel to reel cassette tapes with no bias inside, have a bunch of old clear cassette tapes and cassette parts I can do this project for. Just want to make my clear doors to my double cassette deck look "decorative" inside. Take them out when I use an actual cassette tape (which I hardly use anymore) and put them back inside after.

    As a reel tape lover not bad. But it's a shame that you have to throw away a bit of cassette tape so that the tape fits onto the spool. My fear is that there will be no ribbon salad or run fluctuations in this DIY project. Have a nice Weekend. Greetings Michael

    I tried multiple times to make these and it's almost impossible. The edges from cutting aren't smooth at all with regular plastic from folders. You need something with specific width to form good edges otherwise everything goes to shit.

    you should be using liter tape instead of scotch tape.. clear scotch tape will dry up and break off in less than a year. it will also cause the magnetic tape to get gunky and sticky if ever anywhere hotter than room temp...

  • @TheEwdorado

    what kind of material are you using?

  • @RoughJustice2k18
    @RoughJustice2k18 4 года назад +1

    I would never use ordinary sticky-tape to splice 2 cut ends of audio or videotape together; I recommend that you'll need proper splicing tape (if you can obtain it) for that otherwise over time, the spliced joint will break again since ordinary sticky-tape adhesive is not strong enough. Proper splicing tape has a stronger adhesive, attaches "on contact" and lasts longer. Just a tip based on past experience.
    The home-made reels do look cool though and easy enough to make. :)
