This is great! I'm taking the CNSC exam in the fall and I have lots of enteral experience, but unfortunately a separate team does the TPN at the hospital I work in so I need to learn about TPN starting with the basics! Thank you for posting!

The video is very infromative! Do you have related videos on what can be added/ cannot be added into PN (particularly some meds that are incompatible with PN)? Thank you.

I would say that for the lipids is 9 kcal/g.

Hi! Thanks for your comment. The 9 kcal/g is only an accurate estimate for fats being consumed orally/enterally. With lipid emulsions (used in parenteral nutrition) there is addition of glycerol (added for tonicity) and egg phospholipid emulsifier which contributes additional calories. So in the case of PN, there will not be 9 kcal/g, but rather 10 kcal/g in most cases. We also have a comment in the video description about situations in which it may be 11 kcals/g. Hope that helps!

While we are starting with adult nutrition support, we do have plans for neonatal nutrition support videos in the future!
