The Comanches prevented the Spaniards from colonizing Texas. Even the Spaniards, in an attempt to maintain peace, paid the Comanches an annual tribute in the form of cloth, rifles, knives, etc. in San Antonio (Texas) and Santa Fe. There was a strange friendship: the Comanches stole horses and mules from the Spanish in Texas... to sell them to the Spanish in New Mexico.
