I've been looking for ages for a really good video to introduce Blended Learning. Thanks so much for making this!

Blended learning in my understanding would be qualified as technology integration. I chose this video because you explained through examples exactly what it is and it is not. And in your simplest terms as you explained: “blended learning is NOT about the technology, it is about instructional design.”
This is the hook I needed to help explain to my veteran teachers why blended learning is important and how the technology can help facilitate not replace what they are doing in the classroom (ISTE - C2b). Some teachers are reluctant to the technology integration because what they have been doing has worked for 15+ years so why change. I think this is helpful to explain that technology is ONLY enhancing the quality face to face instruction they have been doing already for years. It is just another tool to change the instructional design as reinforced in the TPACK Standards - TCK1 (TCK 1 - design/facilitate diverse learning activities that incorporate digital tools and resources). And it allows them to scale with the numbers of students they have in the classroom so they can have more personalized instruction.
Secondly, I think this is helpful for teachers like myself that are all about the technology and the power it gives students, but the focus is on the technology more and not the impact of the instructional design
This gives both of my teacher types a clear understanding of what it is and why it is important to instruction plus the use of Powtoons was so much fun and does a great job just breaking new concepts down into simple and concise chunks so it is easy to follow.
Thank you for all of the examples! My favorite is the teacher taking their students to the computer lab to do research. I like how it was taken to the next level and have students posting part of their paper for peer feedback.
My next favorite is when you talked about repurposing class time or face to face instruction. So much has been publicized about Flipping your Classroom that I think most of us have the concept of creating videos or find videos about your content and assigning the direct instruction as homework. I like how you pointed out that can be in class work as well - small groups and even watching in class individually. I think we need to be careful of using the same model over and over again. Students will get bored like traditional direct instruction my grandparents had.
Thank you for creating and sharing! I plan to utilize this with my teachers.

    Hi Jen,
I am just learning about blended learning to apply it in my own teaching. Your presentation is an excellent introduction.
    Thanks

Thank you Jen. Very explicitly explained as I have been looking for a clear explanation on blended learning. For I am planning to write a concept paper on the topic for my EDD. The other day I got to view another write up on Vertical learning too, which looked interesting which was similar to collaborative learning. As an Economics teacher, I have seeking strategies to improve my students learning and understanding the subject.

This video is a very good explanation of the differences between blended learning & tech integration. Thank you.

Blended learning in a literature class is not just technological integration of games and activities, nor is it assignments assigned and submitted online with teacher response. Blended learning incorporates the interaction of the students' collaborating with each other (and the teacher) for a richer understanding of the material at their own pace, in their own time, and following their own paths.

after watching this video on blended learning, I now realize that for sometime I have been confusing technology integrated learning with blended one. Now I am of the opinion that blended learning is more about the structuring of the lesson/ classroom in line with the online programme, wherein the technological device although might be important but is not the major issue. The issue is how to get the learners to collaborate on an online platform.

I loved your animations. What tools did you use to create your video? Maybe you should create a video on how to create this tech-integrated video!

    Hi Jen,
Quite explanatory, I loved it... Though it spoke basically about Blended learning ad Technology Integration, I also kind of saw Flipped Classroom too! Nice video...

    Hi Jen,
It's a great video, but do you use Pawtoon pro to make this video or just the basic teacher account to do it? Thank you very much!

+Hua Zhang I did use an upgraded educator account when this video was made, mostly to get a higher export quality. The video was edited and narrated in Camtasia.

What software did you use to create this video? Sparkol? Did you do it on your computer or ipad?

Jen, I love your video! Captures what I rant and rave about :) I couldn’t find anything online that communicated what i wanted it to. Well done! I’m embedding it as a wrap up video in an online course am writing on blended. In the course, I use Christensen’s Institute current definition of “blended” being those that either fall in the "hybrid zones of blended learning" or within "blended learning"… so had to clarify that in the narrative on the course page next to your video. Hope that's ok. Anything else I should be sure to add next to your video? P.S I have tried Powtoon so many times but I am so lazy with it and just need to get better- you’ve inspired me to master it this summer! From Nawal Nader-French

      Hi Nawal,
Good to hear from you! I'm glad you liked and are able to use this. I appreciate the name attribution alongside the video.

Thank you very much for the concise explanations and the fun content, it was very informative and enjoyable. As a subject matter expert could you point me in the direction of some of what you feel is the cream of the crop literature on Blended Learning in adults?
    Thank you in advance.
