Ha ha! Not even a large file - just a 5 min vid from my phone. But it's taking ages & now I know I shouldn't be watching this at the same time :)) I thought in the year 2020 with zillions of people uploading on RUclips every day it must be super quick. I must be doing something wrong. But it seems like a common issue. How long did it take in the pretty recent era of 3G I wonder?
This came at the PERFECT TIME. It took me 3.5 hours to upload my newest video yesterday, and I was ready to throw my computer through the wall. So excited to try these tips next week!
Thank you! I was just uploading a video to my channel and it was still at 2+ hours to go! Followed your steps and started over now it’s at 15 minutes until upload is complete!!! Absolute life saver!
I found out about the h.264 trick during quarantine and my uploads went from 2+ hrs to 10mins for a video over 10mins along which is incredibly helpful.
Hey, pls can you give me details about it since I've no knowledge at all about what your talking about. You can reach me here pls paschalhyginus02@gmail.com
I used to render my videos at high bitrate but that gave me big file sizes. During lockdown to save data I started rendering in medium bitrate which makes the file size 1/3rd. I dont notice any quality degradation so it works great

After watching your video, I did some research on how many FPS are being recorded on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Turns out, 30 FPS and not 60. I took your advice and recently learned that RUclips has been auto set to auto upload the video quality to the most time convenient option, causing my videos to upload EXTREMELY blurry! I changed those settings to full quality and re-exported a video I worked 3 days on at 30 FPS and it cut the size from 6GB to 3GB. I wish I had backed up every video I made somewhere so that I could fix the mistakes. Now I can look back and know that that is why I back everything up to a hard drive. This video was a HUGE help. Thank you!
Thank you for the brief lesson on WIRELESS 101!! 90% of most folks are still clueless about Wifi and how it really works! If you have 10 things using wireless at the same time, your speed is going to be DRASTICALLY LIMITED/SLOW especially if someone is downloading/uploading/viewing videos/streaming, etc. Even if you hardwire into the AP, it's still going to DEGRADE the bandwidth. If you are experienced enough, you can log into the router and use a service call QOS or Quality Of Service and learn to allocate resources. It is also wise to put items that can only use 2.5gz onto that and those that can use 5gz onto that. For Guest, you always put them on the GUEST Network PERIOD and then allocate bandwidth to them. Your best bet depending on resources is to get your home, condo, etc (if you are paying a mortgage) and have it all WIRED with cat5E or cat6A.
@@capagaming5043 Just RUclips it., Keep in mind though that if your PC isn't that powerful then it will take a long time and you would rather just upload your video instead
Hi there. I had a 6 minute video which usually takes 2 or more hours to upload, only take less than an hour to upload. I couldn't believe how much less time it took. So I did a search and found your video. I had my computer connected to my router via an ethernet cable. And that improved my upload speed. Thank you so much for the information.
Am I the only one who has everything recommended normal but occasionally have that video you loved making and thinks will do very well always ends up taking ages despite it saying “48 Seconds Left” for an hour or 2?
1:25 literally changed my life. I had seen someone else's video on how to change the .mov to .mp4 but it wasn't as good as yours. This literally will help me save hours of my life waiting for videos to export and upload lol. Thank you so much!!!!
Ask me why I didn’t research this topic before your amazing and informative video! This will really help me more than you can know. More than I realized! Thank you so much!
Well so far it works for me, im using OBS studio and changed the file format to mp4 and made sure both recording settings for my laptop and OBS have the same recording frame rate.

Hi Nolan, Thank you for this video. The first part, talking about settings has worked very well. I am now uploading videos longer than an hour. Thanks for the tips.
Fun fact for Windows users: If you run your final video through Windows Movie Maker, your file size will go down a LOT! I edited a podcast for a friend recently, and before Movie Maker the file sizes were anywhere from 15 to 30 GBs depending on how long the episode was. I tried running an episode through Movie Maker one day, and the file size went from 16 GBs to 5 GBs! I have no idea why this is, but it works! I hope this helps out a bit!
Thank you Nolan I couldn't find why it takes that long maybe because one of the reasons you talked about. I can't wait to get home and work some magic on my internet. Its been 16 hrs and 56% uploaded
I feel dumb when all it took was a look at the exporting settings, but it’s all part of the learning process when you’re new to it😂 thanks for the tip!
Thanks for making this video, I have been thinking of make more videos but they take forever the make a uploading. This has been a really good video for me thanks and keep up the advice have been watching for 2 years now love you’re work.
OMG this SAVED MY LIFE , this is literally the only issue stopping me from continuously uploading videos , since my internet is bad , videos for me take up to 4 to 6 hrs for a 15 min video// instantly subscribing to learn even more useful things that I probably don't even know that would have probably made my life a lot easier if I had known this stuff sooner
This is a great start. Another tip for other creators: set a lower bitrate around 10-12 Kbps (10,000 bps). RUclips suggests only 8 Kbps, so any higher than this will increase your video size and the quality won't be much better after YT's compression. Happy uploading!
Thank you for the tips. Would uploading the video as 720p with the frame rate of 30 and then compressing it by 80% make the quality unprofessional if the video is mostly text (an ebook for example)? Also, if the video contain multiple but very small 4K videos, would uploading it in a lower resolution like 720 or 1080 make the scenes in it unable to be played as 4K if the viewer chose that as a setting while watching the video?
your first question is largely dependent on the source images you're using for text / the text size to whether or not 720p is sufficient; I'd recommend looking at other eBooks on RUclips and screenshot a page, then shrink the screenshot's resolution to a few different sizes to see if their text is still legible as a test...the good news is that your lower frame rate of 30 rather than 60 is actually fine here (and should cut your bandwidth & file size in half hopefully) since you're not trying to render crazy high-motion graphics or effects...as for your second question, the final file that you export should correctly transcode your media of varying sizes to the selected output resolution (e.g., I use a combination of 1080p & 4k very often in projects whose export settings are in a variety of resolutions; the quality & speed with which this resizing & transcoding is performed is largely dependent on which software you're using, e.g. macOS' iMovie doesn't give you a choice but automatically will try to select the first file in your timeline as the default export size (with a 4k30 vs. 1080p60 cap with sometimes questionable upscaling IMO but it's very good at what it does for free, flagship software, & I still use it for 'fast' ebook kind of projects where motion quality is less important & thus is much smoother & faster / less glitchy than using my normal FinalCutPro (on its 2nd expiring trial, so it's still 'free'-ish lol) which I use mostly now) ...I have zero Adobe experience / advice, but I hear it handles upscaling & mismatched-resultions in media really well actually...DaVinci's free & cross-platform on all OS', but I find really tough to pick up & even tho I have FCP learned on a basic level now, I still avoid DaVinci out of laziness tbh...the other main free software I use & love is also cross-platform, and that's Shotcut, which is very similar to FCP, only it handles libraries & media importing very differently...slightly less smooth in editing, but the final product is always as good, so I always recommend having it familiarised bc it has a boatload of configurable features & export / encoding customisations that even FCP & Compressor don't have sometimes (or appear to at least), so it's worth a look when you have some extra time to play around with picking a software to learn 😊
I did a test video it was about 2 minutes long. took over 3 hours to upload.. My internet is horrible going with comcast within the next month.. But first i will watch some of your videos to learn more thanks
Start your upload process before bed and publish it as soon as its ready for when you wanna upload. Don't give up. Keep pushing til you get it right. 💜
Edit: after 2 years. I’ve learned that I’m wrong. But I’m keeping my comment for context: Keep in mind, uploading a video to RUclips will use your upload speed bandwidth, so watching RUclips or streaming music on same WiFi/device will have little to no effect, however, doing multiple things might be more noticeable
@@Robert08010 I have since learned a lot in the last 2 years😂 thanks for including that clarification below, I’m gonna edit this comment so I don’t continue to be wrong lmao
I went through this as you were talking. Unfortunately everything you said my video had done. Although the frame rate when filmed was 30 it then changed in open shot to 9999 (so maybe that makes a difference. All the other settings were as you said (not by anything I'd done it's set up like that) Upload time for a 6.5 min video 1 hour 58 minutes. Next up getting a cable! Yours is the first thing I've come across that doesn't say just clear out your computer or faster internet. Thank you.

@@Robert08010 I have since learned a lot in the last 2 years😂 thanks for including that clarification below, I’m gonna edit this comment so I don’t continue to be wrong lmao
@@spray_cheese No worries. I will remove my comment then.
I can't explain how much the content on this channel has helped me and my channel, i'm so grateful! thank youuuuuu!
Thank you.
Sooo helpful! Appreciate you so much. Liked, subscribed, rang the bell. 👍
Dude you are a rockstar!! We switched to iPhone 13s this year and it never occurred to me to reduce the file sizes. 15 GB to 1.5!! Thank you so much!! Now, can you tell me how to fix the stupid HDR problem between iPhone 13 and Final Cut ProX?? (just kidding - but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!) Anyway, thank you so much!!
Thanks man for this beautiful playlist! it'll help me a lot for making a gaming channel god bless this man
