I liked this very much. Being past 70 I grew up with black and white as it was economical and not as demanding, color was often disappointing. Having returned to photogrpahy I find myself doing more B&W although I do not know if it is subconscious as I do not recognize if I am looking at color or B&W rather just subjects (form/line) and light. Thank you for giving me some thoughts to work with.

I like your concept of "areas of light", it's a nice way to think about subject/light intersections. You mention the old adage of always keeping some detail in the shadows, it's one of those "rules" I think is over emphasised especially in BW imagery. When I think of some of the most powerful BW images I've seen, there is almost always a lot more dark and full black then seen in the typical BW landscape image. Thinking of guys like Michael Kenna or Adrian Villa. Thanks for the video!
I photograph in black and white because I am colorblind & its easier for me to adjust for tones rather than color.
I know the feeling. But I look at it as a super power. :)

Hey Toma great video! Just starting following you on Instagram as well. Could you make a video about how to better edit black and white photos in LR? B&W is my preferred style of photography, but sometimes, I just can’t seem to get them right in editing.

My comera is set to only read blacks and white on the screen. Even when I'm shouting color. I can see texters and toons much much butter.
Slowly I am minimizing, I trying to get back to photography and away from technocracy. I will not go back to film and the limitations of that, but I am so tired of myself taking a thousand shots just because I can. I allowed myself to be lazy, and in that process captured more of what was never to be visually appealing. I am trying to be that 24 exposure roll of film king of guy I once was, but now with stuff that begs to be overused. (sigh)
Me too. Couldn't afford 36 exposures in '66. Developed and printed in the bathroom . Now I'm inspired by Daidō. I like grain and vignetting ,
I am not color blind but I see in black, white and the infinite shades between them.
OK, I have lived here forever... there are no "grand vistas", nothing exceptional and nothing much of interest. I've been all over my area in my 70 plus years. While I do take pictures where I can but its not much fun. Not very compelling views. hum drum to say the least. Oh well. carry on. Good video. Great points and made me think differently so maybe I can do better with my black and white next outing.
