Phonological awareness is a broader skill encompassing the ability to recognize and manipulate sounds within spoken language at different levels like syllables and words, while phonemic awareness is a more specific skill focused on identifying and manipulating individual sounds (phonemes) within a word, essentially considered a subset of phonological awareness; meaning, phonemic awareness is a more advanced level of sound awareness within the broader category of phonological awareness.
