  • Winter Storm Paralyzes Southern Ontario: Massive Snowfall, Power Outages, and Travel Disruptions.
On January 12th, 2024, Southern Ontario, Canada experienced a severe winter storm that paralyzed the region, particularly affecting Toronto and surrounding areas. The storm, characterized by heavy snowfall, strong winds, and even lightning, wreaked havoc, causing widespread disruptions in various aspects of daily life.
The storm, anticipated by weather agencies, prompted Environment Canada to issue winter storm warnings for large parts of Ontario and Quebec. Toronto, Peel Region, Durham Region, and sections of Halton Region were under constant warnings throughout the evening. The storm was expected to bring up to 40 cm of snow to some regions, accompanied by strong winds and a potential risk of storm surges.
Toronto Pearson Airport bore the brunt of the storm, with hundreds of flights cancelled and some diverted to other airports due to treacherous weather conditions. At the height of the storm, Hydro One reported over 30,000 power outages, affecting tens of thousands of homes and businesses.

I am in Hamilton Ontario. South of Toronto. We had some winds last night and approx 2 inches of snow. Overnight it rained and there is virtually no snow left .Today there are gentle snow flakes with no accumulation. Just the way we like it. We are due for some colder nights in the 20s. F. But all in all we have experienced much much worse in the past . Hoping for the best as always.🇨🇦👍

The storm isn't so bad, but since it's yo-yoing above and below freezing, everything is super slippery.
