This is actually really sad. Near the ending he says "Some people, man, they just don't fall in love." So he's not saying that some people never get sad, he's saying that some people never love anyone else. Kind of gives a completely new meaning to the song.

I'd like to think this song is about how he met someone who was aromantic/asexual, and he doesn't understand at first and thinks he can fix them and change their mind by "doing them right." but then he starts to realize that maybe he's not right. And that some people just don't fall in love and they don't need to be fixed. That's just how they are.
