Thank you so much for your beautiful reaction, Mam! And to all the people who say "this isn't Nightwish as we know it" ; get over it! THEY dicide their path, not you! This IS pure Nightwish by definition because THEY CREATED IT! Love it or leave it. Personally, I adore it! Want spin-offs of Ghost Love Score, Romanticide, Storytime, etc? There are enough bands trying to copy that... and failing, in my humble opinion. I still enjoy their former work immensely, and I truly dig the latests. I am over the moon that Nightwish didn't get stuck in their past successes but...EVOLVED fantastically. Sorry for the rant, but it was due...😂😊
Love your rant, and I love the new album, especially this song and Lantern Light. The name Lieven sounds Belgian, well, Nightwish has fans in all continents (and I am Dutch).
Thank you Eric, and you are spot on; I am Belgian! You being Dutch, I thank the Netherlands for Floor, so much so that I grant you guys all your football and darts successes, Max Verstappen (that was hard...even if he is half Belgian...😊) and all the amazing athletes Holland brought forward. Still working on Mathieu van der Poel though...😅 Groetjes...😊
OUTSTANDING song. Now my Nightwish favourite. Floor's vocal control is unbelievable. The boys incredible mastery of their instruments!!!! Just Magical. The islands are the people we encounter during our lives (Good and bad) etc). Intense and such poetry.
Nightwish doing Nightwish things! Another reactor said something along the lines of - Only Nightwish can get you to watch butterflies for nine minutes .... and want more. Texas division checking in.
Ocean has a special mening to Tuomas, but here is it symbolic for the life you live, the strange islands are the people you meet during your life, the last part with the uilleann pipes could be the peaceful last part of your life, the colors symbolizing hope. Floor's voice is absolutely stellar here, she recorded her vocal parts 6 weeks after giving birth to Lucy, physically still recovering, but her voice was in top shape as you can hear. Tuomas dedicated some lines to Marko Hietala: You who glow in deepest woe Let it be, retiree, the water's fine Sail carefree
Yesterwynde: This album is like an old concept album by Pink Floyd, you might take the time to listen to it from the first song all thru to the last one. After about 50 times now it grew on me up to the 5 best albums I own - and I am 64 now and have about 8000 records. The last song -Lanternlight- is my personal song of the year 2024 by far. It is very, VERY different but exactly that is the reason. For me Nightwish has evolved to those rare bands, that create art without any consideration to what anybody expected or to say it the short way: Nightwish does Nightwish things. Greetings from Germany
Thanks for sharing your reaction/analysis to a song that for me explores themes of solitude, self-discovery, and the existential journey through life's trials. The imagery of the ocean, islands, and mariners reflects a metaphorical exploration of the human experience connecting with other individuals. The song captures the essence of navigating life’s uncertainties and finding one's place in a vast, often unwelcoming world. It suggests a longing for connection and understanding while grappling with the weight of past experiences and the isolation they can bring. P.S. Butterflies represent transformation on all levels, claims ecotherapist Anna Cariad-Barrett: "Butterflies show us how we can go within ourselves to dissolve old forms and morph, rebuilding and evolving ourselves," she explains, noting that they show us the importance of surrender and trust "as part of the essential process of growth and renewal." Floor recorded her vocals just 6 weeks after having given birth to her 2nd daughter. In an interview with Charismatic Voice she told that it was painful to stand behind the microphone.
This might just be the ultimate Nightwish song. Not because it's much better than any other Nightwish song, but because all the elements are there... the slow, soft, beautiful parts that makes you want to close your eyes and drift away on a calm ocean... then Kai and Emppu unleash the thunderous, heavy part that wakes you up from your slumber, the waves crash against your boat... then Troy calms the storm down, and helps you go back to your slumber, and when you open your eyes, you find yourself on the beach of some paradise island. Floor's voice was the wind that filled your sail on this journey. This album feels like a hybrid between Nightwish and Auri, like Tuomas is trying to merge the two, turning them into one entity.
Very close. It is an Irish Uilleann pipe. Like a bagpipe, but much more musical and vocally expressive. The layers in this song are very deep. Are you familiar with Loreena McKennitt?
This is a journey of life ....." islands " being a metaphor for the people we meet in our lifes travels......at the end i see the butterflies form the shape of anchor and than the Rainbow appears .....alls well
You can see the Uilleann Pipes here: NIGHTWISH - The Greatest Show on Earth (with Richard Dawkins) (OFFICIAL LIVE) Nightwish is influenced by film music. You will also hear "Pirates of the Caribbean" and other things.

They are indeed bagpipes. That's Troy playing Irish Uillean pipes.

I never got it done to listen to the beautiful Troy/Vangelis-like instrumental part, with my eyes open!

That is a perfect analysis. I love it and it is definitely correlates with the imagery. Thank you.
@RetroToMetroReactions My pleasure. 🤗
