I'm 40 now and I know it's not very blokeish but hearing this tune chokes me up; takes me away from all the grown-up problems of life in the adult world and back to when I was a kid to a time when a cuddle from my mum could make everything alright again. :'(

Okay. It`s the year 2022 now. I´m 46 years old, German, and this fantastic TV show was one of the best parts of my childhood. Listen to this wonderful melody almost breaks my heart. After the last years I´m so fed up with the world, the politics, the lies, the wars, the desasters, the darkness..... I want my childhood back, I want to feel secure and safe again!!!!!! (I know, this will never happen) I´m sure I´m not the only one that feels like that.

Oh god, I am 47 and I hear this and I am immediately feeling tearful and nostalgic. Life seemed so much simpler then; being with your parents and feeling secure and happy. Astonishing what these tunes and memories can do, even now. A reminder that those sunny childhood days soon pass and the reality and responsibility of life is never easy.

I was born in 1971 and this was a staple of our summer holiday morning viewing before we headed out for the day to play football and cricket, climb trees, make dens, play hide and seek and take long bike rides. Great series. I was six in 1979 living in Ireland when this came out. Loved the character of Huckleberry Finn as I think most boys did. It sure does bring back happy childhood memories. I remember that episode when the two conmen get tared and feathered and my mother had smoked kippers on for supper. To this day when I have smoked kippers I think of that scene, I can't help associating the two things with each other. It's funny I think if I were ever to witness someone getting tared and feathered I would almost expect them to smell of smoked kippers.😁😁😁

This really takes me back as well, and clutches at the heartstrings as a beloved childhood show (and books), but it's also astonishing to me that this was kids' TV within my lifetime: the credits and theme tune in particular serve up this portrait of a perfect and wonderful sadly-bygone age, and literally include a shot of a grinning runaway slave. Of course the show was more complex than the Care Bears-style theme tune (which I do still love btw) and Mark Twain was a humanist and brilliant satirist but the packaging here is incredible to me now in 2024. I'd be very interested to see a modern reworking of this material, if it's even possible.

Loved this when I was a kid.
I used to walk around barefoot, pretending to be Tom and Huck.
Such a shame that old literature is being lost to political correctness

@nufto Fantastic. I remember Space Invaders, my favourite was a video game called "Phoenix". I found a "magic" 10 pence piece once which would come back out of the machine but still give you a credit. I played for hours in the arcade at Butlins. I eventually got greedy and tried it in a fruit machine, it didn't come back out...

I'll be 40 next year, MrTruebrit66 and yeah, we had it easy when we were kids. No internet, no iphones, no constant paranoia that we were going to get abducted by any adult who so much as looked at you. I don't envy kids today, I really don't!!

One scene that really amazed me was in the "End of the fued" episode, when Huck climbs a tree. I have never seen anyone climb a tree that fast, it really impresses me. When I was a kid, I used to climb trees all the time, but it took me just a little bit longer to get in top of them.

Primary school summer holidays in the 70s between Black Beauty, the Banana Splits, Follyfoot, the Double Deckers and a multitude of others wonderful shows, we had epic and wonderful childhood experience for a brief period every morning. Then we'd be outside playing until it got dark and exploring the woods or making a gang hut, entertaining ourselves in thoughtful ways until dinner time. What went wrong with the world. children today are nothing nore than contained Chickens playing video games under their parents watch! It's so sad!

I remember watching this as a ''rerun'' in the UK in 1982, around about September of that year. Loved the song. One of the lads in my class reminded me of Ian Tracey.

Oh God WOW! I remember watching this great series on TV as a little kid with my mum (rest her good soul), this takes me right back... l loved the opening titles with the old paddle steamer chugging along on the Mississippi River, and the theme song... l'm getting quite emotional now, and have a few tears in my eyes just thinking of those good old innocent times, and about my mum, too, rest her good soul...

Haha, I've been reading the book and all I've had stuck in my head since I started it was this song, barely remembered from my childhood. I mentioned it at a barbeque the other day and almost everyone there joined in the tune, but were hazy on the words. Thanks for uploading.

I saw it when I was 10 or 11, then it was aired in The Netherlands (so around 1980). They never repeated it, so I saw it only once, but when I saw the DVD a couple of weeks ago, it really struck me how much I remembered. During highschool I had to read a lot of English books, and of course a.o. I read The adventures of Tom Sawyer and The adventures of Huckleberry Finn. During reading the book I kept seeing Sammy Snyders, Ian Tracey, and Blu Mankuma in my head, which made the books even better.
