I love making minis on hero forge. The fact that they will let you save characters for free without needing to buy them is such a plus when I just want to model out some visuals of a created character.

I love how they standardized the body measurements so you can just set a mini to 5'6" and every mini set to 5'6" will be the same height. Also, there are waaaay more clothes and weapons now.
Love them showing off SLA printing, but if anyone saw this and thought it was really cool, getting an FDM Printer is a much cheaper alternative and, if printed correctly, can get pretty close to resin printers in quality! EDIT: Yes, there are a few cheap SLA printers, but I’m also including the cost of Resin vs the cost of a roll of filament, so I’m talking about cost over lifetime. I also didn’t say it originally, but FDM is less immediately dangerous than SLA
SLA printers and DLP printers even more have become much more affordable the last 2 years. 300€ will buy you a more than good enough printer do make all the minis you ever wanted with the exception of some ginormous stuff that would just not fit the printarea. I am not trying to talk bad about FDM printers here i have both and the are both doing extremely well if you give them the job they were made for. (Ps. for all you mini needs just google "mz4250").
DLP printers are getting pretty cheap, last month i got my anycubic photon for 250$. I do agree that FDM can get pretty close to DLP/SLA, there are some things you can only achieve with resin printers.

That's either a DLP or SLA printer which uses liquid resin, which gets exposed to directed UV-light to solidify the material! The printers you are talking about are FDM printers which use PLA/ABS/PETG and all sorts of other plastics which get melted at around 200 degrees and pushed through a nozzle.
@@alexgergely3930 - The level of quality and detail on this is absolutely amazing though. I had a HeroForge model 3d printed with either a PLA or ABS printer at a makerspace near me (figured it'd save on the shipping), and it was a horrendous mess of squiggles.

I've imported literally over 4 dozen custom character models from heroforge to my Table top simulator games on steam. I even published a library of my creations. I think I have spent something like 500 dollars on the site at this point and I will continue to give them my money without regret for a long, long time to come. Its a wonderful team, and a wonderful tool with extremely reasonable prices for a CUSTOM mini.

I kid you not, I just spent 3 hours creating my first ever mini for my first ever character, after playing my first ever game just yesterday. And I was finishing up my mini when this popped into my notifications.
I still wanna someday get a heroforge mini of my tiefling. I use heroforge a lot since I can't draw humanoid faces very well so I would just make the character up in that and take screenshots

But I just spent way too much money on kits to paint with, so I got a backlog of figures that I customized and bought in other moments of weakness.
I've spent many happy hours on HeroForge. I'm designing an alternate universe for D&D (shedding the wargamey, binary, colonialist baggage) and needed to work out 15 original playable peoples (a.k.a. "races", see baggage). HeroForge was SUPER helpful in finding distinct looks for all of them. And as I can afford it I'm getting example NPCs from each of them. I am so happy with HeroForge quality (and this video confirmed that I am entirely happy to pay to have them do all the printing and trimming and mail me the completed mini). Our D&D group has tried all the materials now and all are great, but I mostly order in the cheapest because it's perfectly fine once painted. (The metals do have great heft though and my players love 'em for their characters.)
Love Hero Forge. Haven't ordered anything from them yet, but I'll spend so much time just designing characters. And they'll add new options all the time, too! It gets bigger and better! :D

If it's acrylic (which is what Matt has used in the past) it only takes 30-45 minutes at most, and is usually around 1-2 minutes.
