Regarding your pine tree windbreak- plant a line of those first but then plant a line of spruce behind. Pines will grow faster for the initial windbreak, but eventually they’ll get bigger and the bottom limbs will fall off, whereas the spruce will grow slower but the bottom limbs won’t fall off.
Experience taught me too much maintenance with Pine trees & far too many pine cones do battel with lawn mower blades.
Pines are shallow rooted. High winds knocked down many in my town. Nor do I like pine needles.
Any conifer gets loose wood of little usefulness if they get too much light and nutrition. It would be a shame not to use that exceptional climate to produce weird and wonderful leafy trees.
The fence line is looking better every day and that tree puller is worth its weight and it pulls trees and roots in one piece.
I always like to watch you cut trees down. And love to watch you cut wood also.

The saturn hasn't been driven in over a year. The transmission control module isn't working. It just needs sold or scrapped.

When we lived in central Illinois across the front of our property was a wooden fence and i removed it and planted blue Spruce trees at 10 feet apart. I can look at them now on Google maps and there is no way seeing through them to see the house. I had 2 driveways and I put them on that side as well. Then a few years later I started up 10 feet away from my neighbor's fence and went back a good distance to the garden. I feed them Miracle-Gro once a week during the spring and summer. It turned out to be a great idea since the farmers field was turned into a subdivision.
When I first bought my house, the house property was carved out of a Pine Tree Forest. I had to remove 30 more Pine Trees by hand and sure could have used that Implement on your Tractor and that Chipper..... I split the Trees by hand and found myself with six cords of firewood. Took me two years. Two of my first years in Retirement.. Great for the arms and shoulders.. Lols.... For the Stumps which I cut as close to the Ground as I could, I drilled a 2 inch wide and 8 inch deep Hole in them filled them with Gasoline and burned them out...

That tree puller is just about the best thing I have seen for getting the smaller trees out of the way, and the chipper did a fine job of making mulch for y'all to use.. Thanks for taking us along on this project. Your homestead is looking mighty fine. Have a Blessed day.
Pine trees are lighting rods! They shead needles one year and pine cones the other year. There is only limbs in the top 1/3 of the tree & it sheads limbs. Its a lumber tree. I had 20 pine trees on my house yard and always had bonfire going from the needles or pine cones
You are doing a fantastic job in cleaning your fence line. Your fields are clean and clear. You can look across it to see what’s at the back. Once you get more animals, they are going to love especially with the grass. I know Rebekah is loving the look of everything. I know she is proud of you. I love watching you doing your projects. you are doing an excellent job of clearing the old bush. It is one of the most thankless jobs on the farm but well worth the time.
11:20 Chain that close to the ground made my heart skip a beat. You must have much less gravel in your soil that we do ;)
Our soil is clay and doesn't really have any rocks.

Wow Evan, that tree puller sure is a time saver! The TYM is the perfect tractor for that too. The farmstead is looking the best it ever has. I have been watching since day one and I am amazed at how poorly kept this place was before you and Rebecca tackled it. Junk, overgrowth etc. you have a place that most of us envy. Nice job! Thanks for sharing (and doing all the hard work!). You two are a great team. Keep it up!
The sad thing is, there are still washers and dryers, hog feeders, etc in the woods. That someday we will drag out and scrap. The job never ends.

@@cathiwim it is hard saying. It was abandoned for about 5 years. And probably neglected for the 20 to 30 years before that.
Perfect is not usually an attainable destination but learning from the progress and trial is very valuable. You consistently accumulate valuable information and it appears you work hard not to repeat those educational events! That's progress.

I think the Grapple and the Tree Puller are my two most favorite toys (I mean, tools) that you use on the farm. Looks so fun watching you operate them. Those TYM tractors are also awesome. Good idea on the pine trees for a wind break (and partial shade for the cattle). Love your channel. I never miss a video. God bless
Clearing fence row is a lot of work, very tiring, but the end result of beautifying & gaining a great view makes it all worth it. Have done this several times with satisfying results. In 1970 checked with county extension office & soil & water. Planted nearly 2,000 White Pine, Austrian Pine, Scotch Pine & Northern Spruce for wind break. Would not follow their guide line again. Since late 1980's have transplanted volunteer Cedar Trees, propagated by the birds. These are little to no maintenance with a vertical tap root. They are hardy, draught tolerant & more dense for slowing the wind. They are fragrant & birds nest in them, which means less insects survive. btw no matter what you plant, do so with enough room for them to grow . Too many people plant 6' apart & they eventually rub & destroy each other. When it is all "said & done", why replant at age 60 ?
man! tree pulling looks more satisfying than backing over a multiflora rose bush with a brush hog. I didn't think anything could beat watching those things disappear, but this is right up there.

Then if you put that wood chipper in the back of the trailer where it's opened and you wouldn't blowing over the side since the sides are short

I'm glad you shake the dirt off the trees when you pull up the trees. It does two things help fill the hole the tree roots left and you keep your top soil in place.
Have tried putting the chipper perpendicular to the back of the trailer so you can capture more chips? Might not work in every situation but looks like you have room to set up a nice workflow.
Yes, I was trying to drive them beside each other as I worked down the fence row. But it doesn't work very well from the side.
@@CountryViewAcresI would have been reversing the chipper up to the back of the trailer with the wind blowing into the trailer. Everything should then with the wind, you should always try to go with the wind blowing into your trailer keeping the chips from covering everything anything blowing out goes to ground giving that ground a small amount of mulch.

I like the safety precautions you always use. Switch sides with thgat chipper or place a large cloth on the end of the shoot that will direct the chips down.

Great job taking those trees out.
Our arborist suggested we plant cypress trees along our driveway for a wind break.
I have been doing the same. My fences have been down since 2005 when Hurricane Rita came through. We are planning to refence our 5 acres, It is a lot of work, but well worth it. I have a wood chipper similar to yours and I bought a brush saw that is like a big weed eater, for less bending over to cut the brush close to the ground.

Evan, if you raise the sides or install a hoop with a tarp cover on your dump wagon, and then shot the chips from the back end, you will not lose any chips in the wind. With the cover will also allow you the store the chips long in the wagon and maybe use them for other purposes. Just an idea for the future. Thanks for all your videos. You are living the life of my dreams.

Hey Evvan, regarding the manure fork for your tractor, you could weld about 3 or 4- inch pieces of half inch steel rods(sharpened)to the tips of the fingers . Like finger nails 😅

I sure wish I had one of those tree pullers. We pulled a couple acres of locust sprouts using a grubbed and front end loader but there’s a patch with hundreds of them that would be so much faster with a real puller. Even better if track mounted to prevent flat tires!

I would advise that you saw a couple sections of firewood off the bigger trees. When you figure out the cost of sharpening the teeth on your chipper, you will realize that is the better choice.

Oh boy do I have a job for that puller. That is a great piece of equipment. Does 2 jobs at ones no stump to worry about. Come do my property use to be old Christmas tree farm with ton of trees that went wild.

Ya need to try and grow your channel from what you have. At the end of each segment you should suggest that they "subscribe, share" and hit that "like" button at the bottom if they enjoy it. Tell them it doesn't cost them anything and it helps grow the channel. Then every so often suggest they look at the Merch for maybe something. Just thought I would suggest this. I enjoy watching..........

Evan, I think it would work better if you position the wood chpper in the back of the dump cart, and shoot the chipps straight into the cart instead of over side. Just my two cents😃
You get a lot of high winds in spring especially and you can't fight it. You just have to figure out how to work with it. I dump a lot of yard leaf litter and spread it out with a leaf blower. I can't blow it against the wind.
I know tordon isn't expensive but it will last a lot longer if you put it in a spray bottle like an old windex bottle or something.
Dig a hole and then burn your brush in the hole! Save a step or two. But I do like that tree puller! Good job!
