      I was never as far gone as he has been but I could have been. It's tough coming all the way back but he can. I can remember when I was at his stage, just wondering what it would be like not to have crack be on my mind at all, for days, weeks, months. It takes a while but it's so nice to enjoy life and the simple things.

      @ericlofstrand 3 года назад +6

      Possibly, but I think he might do better far away from that life as possible. When i went back to school to become an addiction counselor, the experts all said "working in recovery makes it way harder to stay clean" of course in my mind, I thought I beat a 10 year addiction I can beat anything. I'm the minority of that statistic, that won't happen to me. Then about 2 months into being a counselor, I ended up using xanax a few times before my group sessions just to get through the disrespect clients would give. I had to get out within 4 months. That's common. I don't want that for this guy

I want to say it’s national but I’m not sure, because I knew men in two different Midwest states who have this down. If you let your employer know there’s an addiction problem before they fire you, they have to let you go to treatment and hire you back. I mean there are always places were the law is ignored but if you have any health issue, including addiction, and you’re smart, you learn your rights. Those protections are there because addiction is a disease and, for your investment in an employer, you deserve to be treated as a patient and not a bad employee, if it affects your work. Of course, if you miss work without first asking for help, you can expect your walking papers when you get back. And some bosses will go along with the law grudgingly, and then try to find some other small thing to fire you for. So I expect you’re right about Patrick being an asset.

      Strange doctor. There are hundreds of alternative ife choices that could bring you a similar potential health benefit as 1 glass of wine with dinner. It's not some unique healing elixir. Rather, mortality research suggests that 1 or 2 glasses of wine with dinner might have a minor life extending benefit. But the UK has recently adjusted their alcohol recommendations drastically downward based on more recent research, so I suggest reading the methodologies of these studies yourself and taking nutritional advice of any kind with several pinches of salt, especially when people advise you to put non-essential nutrients like alcohol into your body.

      Laura Ciocia, well.... transparency can be just as bad, most addicts are very honest when they are telling you their story, so he’s smart and has masterminded his addiction, and he will never hit rock bottom, which is a very bad thing, he’s a nice guy everyone likes him... he’s my brother in law made over. and his sister, well him 20 years ago, omg they have the same mannerism. Until he had no one else to listen to him and it didn’t matter how honest he was because it doesn’t fix hurting and using the people you love and love you...he could no longer get it off his chest. He had no more people to stroke his honest ego...he went to jail for 2 years, he didn’t want visitors, but when he was out the always had a story to tell about something bad he did...the real accountability starts when no one is listening and cheering them on for being honest. Giving that slap on the back. They have to deal with their demons and can’t get pacified for telling people. This is what he told me... he said there was not a honest story to tell to make him feel better. He was in jail...he is clean, 17 years, a counsel at his group... head of security at a bank. Don’t have friends here anymore, I’m not trying to down him. I say This stuff because 2 people that I love dearly that I never turned my back on as addicts has a totally Of 30 years clean... both got High over 20 years. I want to see him make it... No harm at all meant...

    I hope some day Patrick realizes how many people he’s touched and how many people want nothing but the best for him. The best part is, the majority of them are total strangers, myself included and I know I can speak for all of us here when I say I hope this guy stays clean. What a genuinely great dude who just took a detour down a bad path. Cheers, Patrick.

    I spent my late teens and 20’s addicted alcohol and coke. I sometimes dwell on the regrets, but I have to remind myself of the lessons I’ve learned. Now that I’m in my 40’s I feel like it made me a more compassionate human, less selfish and less naive to the ugly side of the world. I wish you all the best Patrick! We are rooting for you brother!

    I identify heavily with Patrick's story. This is the third video I watched and I've gotten a lot out of it. Like you, I've had the career all while doing the dumb shit. I now have 1.5 years clean and sober through AA and spirituality. I just keep doing the next right thing, keep staying vulnerable, stay in the weird, keep growing. Stability is on the horizon.

    Hey dude, I’m from South Africa (so very far away) but just wanted to say you can do it! You are always loved. You have many family and friends that love you dearly. Love never ends, and it never gets less, only more. (Think about having a kid, and you love that kid with all your heart, then you have another kid, you dont love the first one less, you love the first just as much as before. Love can only get more, never less)
    I never had any drug addiction but if I could give my 2 cents; think about the delayed gratification by not getting high. You will realise that you’ve always loved yourself, and that you are loved. You would not hurt anyone and you would contribute greatly to society. The dopamine hit from being able to be clean and help others in the process will be a better high!
    Cheers dude! Thanks for sharing your story.

    If you read this Patrick, I think it would be a cool idea for you to start a channel. I have no idea what you'd talk about. I just think it would be a good outlet for people to go to. It's fact that so many of us are interested in your life and the way you live it. It might be a way to give back in some way to help other people in similar situations. Just food for thought. I wish you luck on your sober journey, keep at it!
    P.S. Thank you Mark. You inspire me to not read books by their covers.

      Likes and views stimulate the same parts of the brain that stimulants do. Maybe when he has built up clean time but I wouldn't suggest anyone I love trying to build a channel early in sobriety. Even if it starts out as just a fun hobby it's a slippery slope. You can watch CG Kid and loads of others talk about how getting too into it while newly sober eventually led them back to using.
