Home Free is the best a cappella group on the planet. This is just a small taste….it’s one heck of a rabbit hole, but so much fun. Check out Unchained Melody, Ring of Fire, In the Blood, How Great Thou Art, Brothers in Arms, Mayday, The Butts Remix, Man of Constant Sorrow. That should get you started. There is so much more.
You will never go wrong with Home Free. I believe their fans refer to themselves as home fries.🤷🏻♀️ Anyway, I love everything about them from their obvious, amazing talent, to their sense of humor to their ability to do any genre\style of music. They make it there own, and it’s always FIRE!
The lead singer here, Austin Brown, has a powerful solo version of “Unchained Melody” with just guitar accompaniment. The video is just the two guys in a living room.
The whole Home Free group also recorded a version, harkening back to it’s origin in a 1950’s film called ‘Unchained’. And the video tells more of a story.

Home free is absolutely amazing. They don't do covers, they do upgrades. And that is one very, very deep rabbit hole my friend. But so entertaining and enjoyable. They do everything from "Do you hear what I hear" for Christmas, to Boyz to Men "End of the Road" and they never disappoint.
This video was done during lockdown, so they couldn't perform together. The lead singer Austin Brown performed this with his lady (now his wife) in the room with him- that's who he is singing to. I hope that you will react to more Home Free. I think that you would make a good Home Fry!

Austin did sing lead in this but he’s not the lead singer. They all take the lead depending on who’s best for it or if it’s something they personally want to do. Meet Austin Brown 1st Tenor, Rob Lundquist 2nd Tenor, Tim Foust Bass/ Baritone who has a five octave range that will blow you away, Adam Chance also known as “Chance” Baritone, also what he considers as low tenor and last but certainly not least. Adam Rupp major bad ass beatboxer plus vocals.
Welcome to the rabbit hole, my friend. I love this version - and I'm old enough to remember Percy Sledge's version (I was 11). I love this song, but my personal favorite is "Go Rest High Upon That Mountain." Sueby 1962 in the comments has given a very good list, although there is so much more. Yes, welcome to Home Free, all acapella, no instruments at all. Masters of all musical genres. They won the 4th season of the Sing Off in 2013. Their covers are upgrades, their medleys are brilliant, their collaborations with the original artists are inspirational, and their original songs are masterpieces. Within this 5 man vocal band you have 5 tenors, 5 beat boxers, and 2 bass-baritones. All of them can sing lead and they choose depending on whose voice best fits the song. They can do just about anything and they continue to grow and improve, yet they remain so humble. When they have featured guest artist, they support and allow their featured artists to shine. Several of them have their own channels and do some solo work. And just for fun Rob and Austin sing Opera. What else can I say? Their catalogue of work is quite large and continues to grow. You are in for an exciting journey and the Home Fries will be there for you all the way.

Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. Drummers have often commented on just how realistic his sound is. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.
What is truly amazing is that this was done during lockdown and they were scattered across the country when this was recorded. That’s why they’re on the video screens.
How do they sound so good
Caution: Home Free is highly addictive! Three of them are song writers so there are lots of originals as well as covers. They sing (and write) everything from gospel to goofy. I loved the late Percy Sledge's 1966 original and I think Home Free does it more than justice. BTW, they don't have a lead singer - it depends on the song which one of them sings lead on it. Fall down the Home Free rabbit hole - it's a great trip!

Yes, Austin Brown nailed it. He gives himself completely here and also plays very well with the cameras. The great harmonies, deep bass and the unbelievably freaking good beatboxing/vocal percussion/vocal sounds finish it all off for me. I think it sounds perfect because of all the different beautiful voices. I grew up performing Percy Sledge which I already loved. Then came Michael Bolton's performance where I couldn't say for sure if it was better or not. But this one from Home Free certainly is.

Austin so overflowed Michael Bolton's shoes, he needed them 4 sizes bigger. Bolton does some good music, but this was never a good song for him, IMHO. He always sounded strained and angry. Percy's version was a lament about how love treated a man, but Austin's is a song of joy. I'm sure that it helped that he had found the love of his life not too long before this was recorded. The background vocals and the percussion just lift it even higher.
Michael covered this song. Percy Sledge was the original singer and writer of this song. The Home Free rabbit hole is deep. Withthese guys its either perfection or nothing.
I left home for my children's dad....and they didn't speak to me for many years. Didn't come around until I was about to have my 3rd child. While Austin was singing this, his lady was in the studio....so he was looking at her when he was singing. They just got married.

You are a young man, I am an old woman, I remember when Percy Sledge came out with this song and good night nurse did we dance and fall in "semi" love to this song. You should hear Tim Foust hit it on Marvin Gayes "Let's get it on" mash up with Ed Sheerans till we're 70. Oh and WELCOME to the world of the HOME FRIES.
Austin killed this song with his magnificent voice and Adam killed it with the beat. Austin is singing to his woman during recording. Guys were in their recording due to covid. Great harmonies. Percy Sledge made this song famous in 1966. You definitely must react to End Of The Road, Rob kills it. Home Free won the sing off in 2013 and have been moving on up every since. They even recorded songs with Kenny Roger's, Oak Ridge Boys and performed at the Grand Old Opry. Just returned from European total was canceled when covid pandemic occurred. They have even performed in Canada, and Australia.

This was filmed during the Quarantine. The Guys in the back round were in studios they made in their homes. The Guy you are saying is looking so sexy. That is Austin and he was the only one in a regular studio and his woman, Amberly was there with him and he was singing to her. He is so crazy in love with her.

Since you're a fan of Elvis & now Home Free, you might want to check out Tim Foust's (bass for Home Free) cover of "Can't Help Falling in Love". It's from an old album of his and the video is just an image of his album cover, but it's my favorite version of the song. Tim has a 5 octave range. He also has a few songs from his solo doo wop album on his YT channel that you might like.
As far as Home Free, I think you'll enjoy their covers of "End of the Road", "Unchained Melody", and "Man of Constant Sorrow".

Never really liked this song. Still don't care for it, but Home Free absolutely killed it. Amazing backing vocals, percussion perfection and Austin just flying off into the stratosphere like it was nothing. Hope you venture further into their amazingly varied catalog.

Michael Bolton covered the original which was done by Percy Sledge in the mid 1960's I lovr Homefree's version.
I respect Percy Sledge's version as the original; nice presentation but lacks warmth (IMHO). Michael Bolton's is the version I've had on my playlist for decades.
But--Home Free's version? Austin's high notes are every bit as amazing as the others. And ALL completely acapella?!? With their harmonies and Adam's vocal percussion too?!? No solo act is ever going to best their version as far as I'm concerned. Theirs is now what plays on my regular playlist. In my opinion, Home Free OWNS this song for me now❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
