The motto of #BillionaireNinjas is “Talk is Cheap, Ninjas Leap.”
.
One for the old players and the new. Maybe you've had an aurora MR this whole time and you're like...ok...maybe just one upgrade. Or maybe you have no idea what to pick because you just started but have a couple hundred to burn. Either way we think you'll like what we have to say. Also there are no Pioneer's in this video, that ship can make ships though...
.
In this series we make a list! We check it twice! and we share it with you regardless of whether you're naughty or nice. Make sure you give us your list in the comments!

I love my C1 and can't wait for my Zeus CL.
Pausing the video @ 2:10 to write down my list before I see yours:
#5: Constellation Taurus
My first pick maxes out the cost (in my mind) for an advanced starter at $200 USD, but the value is definitely there for this ship. It's relatively spacious, holds almost 200 scu of cargo on a grid, a hidden cargo area (often overlooked!) has a handy tractor beam turret, and finally good pilot firepower. This ship has legs and gets complemented by picking up something like a Nursa.
#4: Freelancer MAX:
Frankly, even with the 3.23 gold pass which added components for all the Freelancer varients, I have to admit the series is a little long in the tooth. The center section that holds extra cargo (that has to be moved through the small doors) is awkward, the airlock in the ceiling isn't supported, it has as many beds as ships two or three times the size, and the bridge/pilot area needs a rework. However, for $150 USD you get decent pilot guns (4x size 3's on a gimbal) with a good capaciter size, a spacious cargo bay that can take 120 SCU of cargo or a full-on Nursa sized vehicle (plus still a little cargo). This ranking assumes the Freelancer series will get a bit of a re-work at some point to re-do the front half of the ship, and perhaps making the rear turret a remote turret to expand the cargo capacity even further (due to not having a manned turret). Similar or perhaps slightly more of a re-work than the Retaliator just received for the airlock, doors, etc. Even if the cargo isn't expanded, just a re-work to add some weapon racks, maybe put the pilot seat in the middle and further forward to improve the view a little bit, and make more efficient use out of the front half would be good enough.
#3: Drake Vulture / MISC Prospector:
I'm putting these two at a tie for 3rd place. At $155 for the Prospector and $175 for the Vulture, these are both a bit pricey but they enable you to make money and buy ships in game. If you buy the prospector, then I'd recommend you grind for a vulture, and vice versa as a first step.
#2: Crusader C1 Spirit
It's just good and the value is very good at $125 USD. This is the only ship on my list I haven't personally owned. But the stats and looks are undeniable: She can hold 2x 32scu sized containers in the back very nicely. She's sturdy, looks incredible, has a remote turret, decent pilot guns with a huge capacitor, has good range and of course just like the other cargo-focused ships on my list has a tractor beam. Great two-man ship.
#1 Drake Cutlass Black:
For $110 the value is just unbeatable. The community used to just point to this ship as a default back when it was $100 flat and it's no wonder why. The cargo area, though only having a snappable grid for 46 scu, I've personally put over 100 scu in the back of one. Despite only being $110, this ship comfortably fits three players and just like the other recommendations has a manned turret and tractor beam. It's also the only ship on my list that gets VTOL mode in my list besides the Taurus. The side doors are awesome, it has SIX jump seats in the back and is basically already a poor man's drop-ship with three points of egress. Just like the C1 Spirit, she won't fit a Nursa, but you can't have everything, can you?
Love the C1 design and sound, hate that cockpit...
Cutlass is fine, but when Zeus arrives it will need something to make him eligible again.
The VTOL and side doors makes a big difference.
Not really. All Drake ships will be cheaper to repair and easier to keep up with. That alone keeps the Cutless-Black on the map.
@MrDecelles there is a ton of convenience for having all the open doors and space on the cutlass. Another thing to keep in mind is old Zeus starts at a minimum 150 in concept, which tells me likely to go 175-200 on release, with the MR probably hitting 250
Cost is a big one. The Zeus Mk 2 is quite a bit more expensive.
And there we go: the Cutlass Black was my first pledge and I will forever keep it.
Great jack of all trades and one heck of "rule of cool" ship!
Cutty is the GOAT
Something about the way the cutty looks just pisses me off. Every other drake ship is fine, it’s just those stupid “wings” and its overall design that just makes me wanna blow it up.
@@Griffo4 herald is my favorite ship
yeah, I CCUed out of the black, later bought thousands of dollars worth of ships. but eventually got myself a "keeper" Black coz it is a must have in every garage (hangar)
I'm about to buy. Would you get Cutlass or the nomad? I just really like the look of the nomad lol
I’ve recommended many friends the cutlass black, really solid starter for sure.
The Vulture can split anything with 100k shields or smaller,
You can fit an STV on a Cutty Red. Source: me. That setup was my bunker runner for a while.
I know you said $180 is the limit. I'm only 3 minutes in as of this msg. Seeing how the Taurus, a top contender imho, as an advanced starter, just saw a price hike from $190 to $200. It started at $150 though which is wild. Either way i hold the Taurus as the S-tier advanced starter ship that will carry you through several game loops comfortably.
I also like the Taurus.
As a direct competitor of the Nomad, Cutlass Black and the Freelancer. I would be interested to see the C1 be given a starter ship package. Comparable price, functionality as a different aesthetic only really. Fits the bill and adds more variety for those upgraded starter packages.
Yes, a backer can simply do a CCU from a lower priced starter package and upgrade to the ship. But having a Crusader brand starter package would be cool to see on the site.
Never bothered to fly the Cutlass Black loaner when I got the C1 though so, yeah.
I agree, the Cutty black is a great deal and a fantastic starter.
My first starter was Nomad, my friend loves nomad even now and flies it every day… as for me the best starter ship above 100$ would be f7 of course
Cuttless Red is my #1. i even use it for ROC mining. it fits nicely. and if you do blow up in your ROC. you can respawn and save/sell your mined rocks that you placed in your ship.
The side doors on the Cutlass Black are amazing 😂
Not a bad list! I would suggest most those ships, feel like the C1 though is going to get dethroned by the Zeus CL soon heh
If the Mk II hadn't been released, I'd have had the Prospector in this list.
I think the vulture and Cutty red are definitely worth picking p if you have the Auec, they are actually far more versatile than their roles show.
I can’t wait for the Zeus MR to be released!! I’m going to replace my C1 with it.
The freelancer also is a good pick, space trucker vibes.
I agree with the vulture still after nerf of salvaging, it is a money printing machine. And with that decent amount of cargo you can do some small cargo hauling and box missions. Also that bed on it allows to life of the grid
Cutty black is also chosen Advanced Starter. But would have the prospector in here too.
The Cutty black is a solid pick
For the Vulture, you can break apart MSR and smaller.
cant go wrong with any of these. i approve but in the future mining ships will also need to be considered
I love medical gameplay so the Cutlass Red is definitely on my list, and I would get a Black too if I didn't already have a Corsair... I'll try and compare them both someday to see if the Cutlass Black is worth having in my fleet.
While I think the Spirits could use a couple tweaks performance wise, they're still my absolute favorite Pilot+ sized ship.
Another great vid!
Personally, I'm a big fan of the Freelancer, my Kickstarter ship. I still fly it, though I upgraded to a MIS as soon as the variants came out. But all your ships are solid choices. I love my C1 while I'm waiting for my E1. And the mk2 has become my favourite dedicated fighter.
WHAT, NO FREELANCER?! i have the c1, those wings dude... honestly im over it. too wide, too fragile, i dunno. wish i had gotten a cutlass lol
Any upgraded ship is going to perform better. But its what you wish to do when ever there is a fresh start.
Bang for buck, you cannot beat the versatility of the Cutlass Black.
I love the cutty but oh man,she breaks if you even LOOK at her too hard
personally i think the c1 is the best on this list, can do so much with it and i think it looks rlly sleek
I'm a fan of the blue hornet too, and also have the F7A. I wouldn't have put a fighter on a starter list, though, due to the lack of options.
The Vulture has a size limit for ship breaking.
Also, Drake supremacy so real it shows up twice.
I had to put the F7A on the list when it can do bounty missions all the way from VLRT to ERT. That's a whole line of missions with one ship that would allow you to buy any other ship in the game.
@@billionaireninjas I can see the logic there. I just imagine, when I imagine a starter I'd recommend to someone, a more versatile platform. Like, if the Vanguard was a lot cheaper in real money I would recommend that due to the interior, as an example.
Cutty red is such a good ship, i have one as a loaner from my apollo but im thinking i may just keep this!
vulture, advance starter? Most certainly yes. Would consider any ship that is cheapest to do the main job it is for proficiently is certainly a starter.
i have a vulure and a mk2f7c and i think there great good video
Love your video bud !
Definitely agree with the Cutty Black being top of your list
The Mk II raises alarms for me.
Johnny Deere is an occupation starter right off the go...Winner
5 Solid choices, but no Prospector? I know it is not multirole, but it is definitely a good money-maker.
Time to money is better with the vulture but I respect the prospector!
I own a Cutlass, it is great till I lose an engine. Give it more hull hp will make it a great experience.
Corsair + Ursa Medical
Are you actually a billionaire? That’s dope
Well...define billionaire lol
Pretty sure that the C1 Spirit has an expiration date on it. The very minute the Zeus CL is released the Spirit will be a memory. That’s just my prediction on that
Yeah I talked about it in my review. They'll find a place for it though I hope. Maybe this is the tough one and the CL is the fast one.
Is the meta for ships in 3.23.1 still Omnisky cannons? Been wanting to play with ballistics since they actually have ammo now.
I'm pretty satisfied with my C1, it's my daily driver. Can defend itself, flies well, has a huge fuel tank, and is, as you said, the best starter for cargo. Also has beds, weapon and armor racks and you can bring a friend. I'm also aware that the Zeus will outclass it in every metric but speed and maneuverability, so that's why I may CCU it in the future.
Man I wish I could get the Cuttie Black with the Steel paint.
I’ve gone so deep down the rabbit hole, that I looped back around. Now the C8 Pisces is my starter because the only ships in my Hangar are the Carrack, Ironclad and Perseus.
Cutlass is about to get dethroned come 4.0 👀
The SRV could have been in this list if there was some more gameplay and missions for it.
Won't get any arguments here, your top 4 align with mine, probably in that order too. Totally agree with the Vulture, I've spent so much time in that thing, It's such a great ship. Just a personal thing and probably more a point in time thing too, but I've recently got into mining so would include the prospector over the hornet.
Will the f7c mk2 be on sale again ?? it looks like they took it down from being buyable
I feel like picking 2 cutlasses is double dipping. Also there are 2 other viable "advanced" starters under $200: the Prospector and the Connie Taurus. The Connie being a major jack of all trades and the Prospector being the first ship in the mining category. Along with the nURSA, the Connie can do medical at a beginner level.
Connie doesnt match my price limit of 180 and the prospector would be a solid honorable mention. I would say it was double dipping if their roles weren't so drastically different.
@@billionaireninjas sorry, I thought the starter limit was $100 in the first video. My bad.
I mean c1, cutlass, freelancer are for sure go to. We could have add the old taurus for 150. Absolute bang for bucks. Now freelancer max is worth until zeus cl. That said not sure zeus would be best pick as it is advertise as slow.
Hornet tho… not sure i would put it there ^^
I think you should’ve broke the rules and added a Connie Taurus as an honorable mention. A billionaire wouldn’t scoff $20 outside the guidelines for jack of all trades with more SCU than anything in its price range and can easily run ERTs.
Ah but see if I called it a starter ship that would be disrespectful. The taurus is an endgame ship my friend. One could own just that one ship and be very happy with what they do in the game
Mine are Vulture (salvage), Freelancer max/ or c1 (Cargo), medical Pisces (bunkers), i run the f7a mk2 cuz of the event (bounties)
my 2 accounts, one getting a cutty black, one getting a C1, from upgrading.
I've got a small wager with myself that the other variants of the Cutlass will be going away with the modularity.
I started with a Titan as my starter back in 3.16 when they were still $70 IIRC. Honestly looking back if I had to start over I would probably do the Cutlass Black. It's everything the Avenger Titan is just more of it, plus a turret for a friend. Also if you were going to focus cargo, aren't the Freelancer's around $125? Although by now they are definitely showing their age, might be a better alternative to the C1 if you were only doing cargo.
I wish they’d just clone the hull a, add more spindle and call it the hull B
If we stay in the realm of general purpose ships as i believe choosing profession "starters" is a different category to judge ships by.
Cutlass black is my #1, jist cant argue with its versatility.
C1 is fun but is absolutely massive, however its claim to fame is being able to jam 2x32scu crates inside.
I have to give freelancer a chance, its half decent now they gave it a third shield emitter and those turret guns are fairly viable if you use free look to aim them. All freelancer needs is a nice full gold standard and about another meter or two of width in back to correctly hold tumbril / roc sized vehicles.
No clue on the zeus, holding out until they show up because numbers alone dont tell the whole story.
Profession starters are pretty self explanitory with the cargo ones being the most debatable right now > freemax, zeus cl or hull B? If you want quantity you cant argue with the B except the fact it is still in concept.
2 x 32s fit easy you can jam 3 x 32s in the c1 🤣
What was the issue with the paint with your Hornet?
C1 is a beaty but cutlass is better imo. Also we need another small salvage ship.
Not another small salvage. Not yet. We have that in the Vulture. We need a medium salvage ship. Something on par to the Mole.
Totally agree.
Cutlass Black gang!
C1 nice for cargo but think im gonna uopgrade to the Zeus mk 2
My list would drop the F7C and go with the Prospector. F7C requires good skill to earn auec and I wouldn't expect an advanced starter level player to be a dogfighting pro. Prospector makes good money which can earn you enough to easily buy subsequent ships in game.
If only the Cutlass black could fit a Nursa ❤
With the Cutty Red, not much point really…
@@Libertas_P77 I disagree, Cutlass Black has the option for cargo so if I could switch one ship from medical to cargo it would be better then a medical only ship. But obviously that's just a dream becuase the Nursa doesn't fit. To bad they didn't make the Cutlass a modular ship
The Carrack has 3? Beds on it, not even close to a starter though.
I want yellow skin for cutlass!
Say what you want to say about the cutless red idc that’s a sexy ship and I love using it.
How to get C1 spirit as starter ship when you want to buy the game?
Its an advanced starter I would upgrade in-game. Its rarely sold in game packs from what I know
@@billionaireninjas dayum... I really wish to have on as starter pack, is there anything better as C1 spirit as starter?
C1 is one the best ships
Music much lower please, your voice is good ✅
I would get rid of the Red
If we're going ships under $200
Connie Taurus is $190 - 174 SCU, lots of missiles, lots of guns, more guns with a friend, turret tractor beam
Prospector $155
Freelancer Max $150 - 120 SCU
SRV $150
Hull B $140 for 384 SCU and landable on planets and only 1 crew requirement
RAFT $125 - 96 SCU
And if we want to include $200, then we have the Vulcan
All of which I would say are better than the Red, with the exception of the SRV which still needs more gameplay to be put in, and the Vulcan and Hull B which aren't in game yet
if someone asks me "what is the best ship under $200? I will teach them the CCU game and get them a $220 ship for under $200. there are so many good ships at that $220 price tag.
Heck a $475 ship for $180 if they plan it right like I did with my 600i
I'd like a freelancer Max but the interior is trash. My current starter is a Prospector. I also have a merchantman that i want to downgrade to the mining/refinery platform Astra or something
Nomaaaaaaadddddd
Might be wrong about this but doesn't the carrack have multiple medical beds, or am I remembering that wrong
You are wrong. 1 bed
Just one, but it's also a T1 bed.
It has one T2 and two T3 medical beds, you’re correct.
@@schakTheNerd wrong. It's a tier 2 bed
@@Libertas_P77 wrong. Just 1 tier 2 bed lol
im looking at the vulture for second ship want to get my teeth into salvage
As a Vulture owner, I can recommend it to anyone who is interested in salvage. Very fun and profitable ship
Nice you skipped all the other stuff :)
2nd! :D
guess I can say 3rd. lol
I never liked the cutlass much. I know it's pretty much the best on paper but I never liked the feel

Man I wish I could get the Cuttie Black with the Steel paint.
