Yay, Dreamland! I had my wedding rehearsal dinner there! Had to show the Yankee inlaws good cookin'. Bonus that we smelled like hickory at the weddings!
I can’t believe you just did an Alabama bbq sauce taste test without a single white bbq sauce. Please tell me there’s another video deep in the throws of RUclips that I have yet to unearth in which you give the zesty concoction the respect it truly deserves. Don’t let me down….don’t let Alabama down.
Anchovies are very common in bbq sauce. They're a good salt replacement since they're salty, and the accentuate the worcestershire sauce since it too has Anchovies in it.
BBQ in the South. Pulled pork or in some cases chicken, cooked very slowly. Either over an open but low flame or a smoking process. BBQ in the North. Some guy named Al, cooking a hamburger outside.
Bless you rank: Banana Puddin! Either get it store bought or from restaurants, but I just want to see Matt treat himself to one of the best southern desserts.
I just moved down to Alabama from the North (NY, specifically). I have been at Golden Rule, and LOVED LOVED LOVED their sauce!!! As an intro to Alabama sauce, it was a great intro!!!!
This is a great channel! Now I get to learn about Alabama, yay! And you are the best person to teach at! You always been my favorite one on iI's a Southern Thing anyway 😁
The way you focused on the second camera to have a conversation with Nick Saban had me laughing so much. You had to tell him to don't quit his day job in some way. LOLOLOLOLOL
There used to be a truck stop/bbq place in Centreville called Twix’n Tween. This is supposedly their sauce recipe-very old recipe from Bibb County. 2c. ketchup 1c. dill pickle juice 3/4c. mustard 3T. sugar pinch garlic salt 1t. salt 1t. lemon juice 3T. hot sauce 1t. paprika 2t. Worcestershire sauce Mix well, let come to a boil. Take off stove and cool. Use with pork or beef. I guess I’m not a real Bama sauce guy, because I like Country’s the best. I order their sauce by the case. Y’all just take me out yonder and shoot me.
If I remember right, when Keith Jackson was in Tuscaloosa for Alabama football games he always had to go to Dreamland. Then talk about how great it was. Always.
I don't even like BBQ sauce but I went there with my grandfather in law and I liked it with bread. That's saying something, it was good enough that it was just good.
I'm not sure if y'all have it in Alabama but it's called Lily's. No high fructose corn syrup, no added sugar, non GMO, no artificial colors or flavors and they make regional sauces as do most companies but the Alabama Ivory sauce is my go-to on just about everything not just chicken. It's fantastic! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
There's a small bbq joint in Clay, AL, that has what I think is the BEST sauce (& meats). If you're ever in the Trussville area, drive down Old Springville Rd to BBQ Stop & try the Southern Peach sauce. Delicious. Their other sauces are quite good, too, but I am hooked on the Southern Peach. Saw a comment regarding Saws. I do love Saws bbq, but I think their red sauce is a bit thin. That said, their pork-n-greens are PERFECTION. Their white sauce is wonderful, as well.
Never had any of these but lived in LA (lower Alabama in Selma, the arm pit of the south) and the best I ever had is Hancock’s followed closely by Lannie’s. Hancock’s Camp Stew, his version of Brunswick Stew with a BBQ sauce kick, is ‘jump up and slap yo Grandma good’.
Grew up in Bessemer and Bob Sykes was a favorite, it's one of the few things I miss since I moved away in 2018. That and Domino's Pizza in Mountatin Brook.
I'm from the coast of South Carolina so we r Vinegar based. We went to Tuscaloosa numerous times when we played Bama and over to Starkvegas MS to play Miss State. Have eaten at the original in Jerusalem Heights at least 10 times and there is nothing tomato based better than Dreamland. After eating there going to Starksville MS once, the taste is so good, when I had a good burp, you could taste the sauce again. So dang good. Always get 5 jars b4 leaving.
Yeah, Dreamland sauce is definitely the best. Now, as for their ribs, had better all over the state. Even right in Tuscaloosa, Archibald's is better. Dreamland's ribs have taken a step back since "Big Daddy" passed on to that bbq pit in the sky.
I'm sorry while I do love my southern neighbors..Lexington NC BBQ is by far the best BBQ on planet earth. Except ribs and that goes to Rendezvous Ribs in Memphis. So NC first..then Memphis..Texas..and KC. Then everyone else..bless your heart for trying.
There are three sauces in our fridge right now Sonny's honey cause it's sweet, thick, and we use it for a dipping sauce mostly Joe Kim out of Moultrie, GA....this sauce is our jam but we have to cross the state-line to get it And of course Gibson. We started using this since "the plague" hindered us from getting home. All different sauces but all delicious 😋. I'm gonna try Dreamland though. Thanks bunches 👏👍
I'm thinking you might want to try your test a little differently, although it would have taken a little longer. It looks like you are just trying the sauce out of the bottle, which isn't necessarily quite right. Whenever I have had pulled pork it's after someone has done all the work to make it that way, sauce and all, served hot. You needed your meemaw's to show up and cook up a bunch of pulled pork, keeping it hot, in each type of sauce. They would then hand you a sandwich cut into quarters, from which in each case you would eat a quarter. You could then also try some out of the bottle on the bread as you demonstrate for us. That would be the cold version. Sure, that would cost more and take longer, but for folks like me, it would give me a better idea of what it is you're looking at. Additionally, you could actually make a party out of it...
I brought a busload of students to Alabama from VA. Yes we toured the space center in Huntsville... But the main reason for the visit was Dreamland! Gotta educate these Virginians. Ain't a lick a good Q to be found!
Pierce’s Pitt BBQ is better than every Alabama bbq place other than Big Bob Gibson and Miss Myra’s for the chicken and white sauce. But for pork? Pierce’s Pitt all the way.
Dreamland bbq sauce has been my favorite all throughout my life. It is my go to sauce for ribs and I have yet to find something that is better (keep in mind I like my bbq sauce spicy and thin and not sweet or thick).
I haven't heard of most of these but I would probably agree with the outcome.. I absolutely love dreamland but where is the Archibald bbq sauce at?? BEST ALABAMA SAUCE EVER!!!
Agree with your sauce pick, but disagree with who think has best ribs in Alabama. In Alabama Archibald's, Dreamland and a few others, then maybe Rodney. I did try there ribs, but as you probably know he has partnered with Pihakis Restaurant Group. You know the Jim and Nicks BBQ sauce that you said tasted like a chain restaurant. Just my opinion!
My favorite sauce once I discovered it is the carolina gold mustard based bbq sauce. I make it myself and now the stuff bbq places have in OK is disappointing.
If you combine 50% FullMoon with 30% Jim n Nicks, 10% Golden Rule, 5% Kroger whole grain garlic mustard, and 5% of honey Jack Daniels, then mix together in a double boiler and put it on the stove until it comes to a boil, you’ll have the best “homemade” bbq sauce ever.
Matt is correct: Religion, Football, and Dreamland are VERY touchy subjects in Alabama. For me... 1) Religion: Taoism (Like Buddhism, only we laugh more and like meat). 2) Football: Samford Bulldogs (It's my alma matar). 3) Dreamland: Hate it (Their smoked pork is weak. Sauce is just okay). So...yeah, I'm not a normal Alabamian. 😢
I love ALL of these “Bless your Rank” episodes. But HOW… tell me HOW IN THE HAIL DID YOU NOT INCLUDE WHITE SAUCE???? It’s literally “Alabama” white sauce.
Archibald's is my favorite, but I've never seen it in stores. I get a gallon of it a couple of times a year when I'm in Tuscaloosa. Usually with a whole butt.
I know this is Alabama sauces on an Alabama page and let me say I love y'all Alabama, but here in Texas, it's BEEF bbq and good beef bbq don't need no sauce at all. I'm looking to try some of y'alls white sauce the next time I'm down y'alls way!
I have Texas BBQ on my bucket list. I would also agree beef doesn't need any sauce. As far as white sauce in Alabama this is misconception. Probably because this was developed by North Alabama BBQ restaurant. Alabama is clearly famous for its red BBQ sauces. You may have a few that offer white sauce, but 99 % of Alabama use Tangy, Spicy vinegar based red sauce. So don’t believe these so called food experts on the internet. They just copy and paste from one site to the other. I was really surprised how many so called experts that have white sauce as Alabama's preferred sauce.
As a person who lives in Western NC, I am legally obligated to say that beef is not barbecue. Only pork can be considered true barbecue, as the root word of barbecue, barbacoa, refers specifically to pork. That said…I would love to try Texas BBQ/BBQ-style brisket someday. Unfortunately, we don’t have a smoker at home, and I can’t eat grocery store/restaurant beef because it gives me a pounding headache. I get my beef from a local farm, and I can have a professionally cooked steak at one restaurant, because they get their beef from the same farm. Anything else with beef that I eat has to be homemade. On the other hand, maybe if I ever go to Texas, I can bring a brisket with me (frozen), or otherwise source one from a local farmer to try it.
As in Northerner (long island) I feel so left out. But Matt should have no authority to speak about pizza. Ever. That's the one thing we can claim in New York
KC here, I don't like Gates Sauce by itself but with the meat it makes sense, and saying something ify about Gates will get you put in time out in many corners of KC. TLDR, I agree with no meat taste test and not.
Thank you for not wearing red and white. I won’t wear purple and yellow. Just put some Gibson’s white sauce and be done with it, IMO. Never had their red. Which Dreamland is best?
This one was a red sauce challenge because there are so many different red sauces from so many classic Alabama bbq restaurants to try. And red sauces are more traditionally used for pulled pork. We'll get white sauce in a different ranking later hopefully.
Can we get a bless your rank where Matt judges DIET drinks. That would be HILARIOUS!!!
I have a feeling that he may say something like not needing that kind of negativity in his life.
Love the way you continue to talk and maintain eye contact while subtly sliding the Saban Sauce off camera 🤣
While saying there’s no bad BBQ sauces up on the table lol
Yay, Dreamland! I had my wedding rehearsal dinner there! Had to show the Yankee inlaws good cookin'. Bonus that we smelled like hickory at the weddings!
That's how we did it in Egpyt
I can’t believe you just did an Alabama bbq sauce taste test without a single white bbq sauce. Please tell me there’s another video deep in the throws of RUclips that I have yet to unearth in which you give the zesty concoction the respect it truly deserves. Don’t let me down….don’t let Alabama down.
I refuse to acknowledge white bbq sauce as an Alabama thing. Most of us weren’t raised on it. Sorry.
Anchovies are very common in bbq sauce. They're a good salt replacement since they're salty, and the accentuate the worcestershire sauce since it too has Anchovies in it.
I know this is old but dude you're my spirit animal. You get what food needs to be about. Thank you for these informative scientific videos.
Why did I get so invested in this ranking? So proud for Golden Rule.
Someone please make Matt do a bless your rank with pickles!
Ohhhh. He would hate that so much. LOL.
Anchovies contain MSG, was used by Romans to tenderize meat.
LMFAO
The ingredient that makes worchestershire sauce have its flavor is anchovies
today I learned
It contains glutamate or glutamic acid...not MSG
I just moved down to Alabama from the North (NY, specifically).
I have been at Golden Rule, and LOVED LOVED LOVED their sauce!!! As an intro to Alabama sauce, it was a great intro!!!!
Saw's BBQ in Homewood is another good BBQ.
Please do a white sauce video!! And now I will go look and see if you have already done one.
If you include a dash of Worcestershire in your barbecue sauce, as you must, then anchovies are an ingredient in your sauce.
This is a great channel! Now I get to learn about Alabama, yay! And you are the best person to teach at! You always been my favorite one on iI's a Southern Thing anyway 😁
Me: oh, a new Bless Your Rank. But it’s bbq sauce and I don’t care about that.
Also me: watching anyway.
The way you focused on the second camera to have a conversation with Nick Saban had me laughing so much. You had to tell him to don't quit his day job in some way. LOLOLOLOLOL
"Man, I ain't wastin this." Is how basically every good Alabama invention was invented.
Someone finally sees how good tater tots in BBQ sauce are 🤤🤤 they're soo good
I haven’t had better cooking than when I started spending time with my husbands family who live in Alabama and I’m from next door in Georgia 😂
bless YOU, Matt!!💗
just what i needed😋
Rodney Scott from South Carolina is The BBQ Man!
There used to be a truck stop/bbq place in Centreville called Twix’n Tween. This is supposedly their sauce recipe-very old recipe from Bibb County.
2c. ketchup
1c. dill pickle juice
3/4c. mustard
3T. sugar
pinch garlic salt
1t. salt
1t. lemon juice
3T. hot sauce
1t. paprika
2t. Worcestershire sauce
Mix well, let come to a boil. Take off stove and cool.
Use with pork or beef.
I guess I’m not a real Bama sauce guy, because I like Country’s the best. I order their sauce by the case. Y’all just take me out yonder and shoot me.
@Elijah Prestley
t = tea spoon
T = Table spoon. 3 X t.
Those long handled iced tea spoons are also teaspoons.
I immediately went to Amazon and bought Dreamland sauce because of your review.
Did you just have 8 slices of white bread...I can respect that. I had 6 slices yesterday... I need to up my game. 😎
I just ordered a bottle of dreamland. Anxious to get a taste of best BBQ in Alabama! I live in Minnesota and love all the videos you guys make!
I love "bless you rank" videos

Good afternoon beautiful people love your channel
ROLL TIDE ROLL!! 😁
I’m sad y’all didn’t have Meat Boss BBQ sauce from Mobile.
Grew up in Bessemer and Bob Sykes was a favorite, it's one of the few things I miss since I moved away in 2018. That and Domino's Pizza in Mountatin Brook.
I'm all about SAW's bbq sauce and white sauce. Preferably on the smoked chicken wings and a pulled pork sandwich from the one in Avondale.
I'm from the coast of South Carolina so we r Vinegar based. We went to Tuscaloosa numerous times when we played Bama and over to Starkvegas MS to play Miss State. And of course Gibson. We started using this since "the plague" hindered us from getting home.
All different sauces but all delicious 😋. I'm gonna try Dreamland though. Thanks bunches 👏👍
Darn straight, Dreamland wins! Well played, Matt. I agree with this entire ranking.
I'm thinking you might want to try your test a little differently, although it would have taken a little longer.

Matt, you need to come to our house when I'm smoking a pork shoulder. We do it right.
When are you going to do a Georgia version of Bless Your Rank? Go Dawgs!
Piss on em. Thwg
I love Dreamland… but live in New Mexico now and can’t get any! Thanks Matt ☹️
Golden Rule: doing BBQ right since 1892.
Nick Saban on Twitter? Oh, you crack me up, Matt!
This is alabama bbq sauce but no white sauce really
To be fair that would be another category.
Flavor forward is correct! Coming from a food scientist.
Best BBQ sauce I’ve ever had is in Gadsden AL called Pruett’s I’m all the way in TX and still dream of that sauce
BBQ SAUCE goes on chicken, chops, steak and fries. As a NC boy, oy vinegar based sauce goes on actual pulled pork or chopped BBQ.
no mention of Ollie's sauce. My old man's favorite
We had it in the room, but Matt could only try so many!
Do South Carolina sauces next !
Bunyan’s. From Florence. Their hot slaw too💕💕💕
I'm at the pig right now and I'm going with your decision Matt. Dreamland it is.
Is it a dead pig?
@@Pharaoh_Tutankhamen Piggy Wiggy Grocery store
No love for Mobile, eh, Matt? You need to include Meat Boss BBQ sauce next time.
Dreamland bbq sauce has been my favorite all throughout my life. It is my go to sauce for ribs and I have yet to find something that is better (keep in mind I like my bbq sauce spicy and thin and not sweet or thick).
Would love to see you rank just white sauce
Wish you would have done Big Bob Gibson's white sauce.
I haven't heard of most of these but I would probably agree with the outcome.. I absolutely love dreamland but where is the Archibald bbq sauce at?? BEST ALABAMA SAUCE EVER!!!
I grew up a around the corner form bob Sikes pier
No MeatBoss come on Matt. That one sets the bar.
Sweet Home Barbecue

I did try there ribs, but as you probably know he has partnered with Pihakis Restaurant Group. You know the Jim and Nicks BBQ sauce that you said tasted like a chain restaurant. Just my opinion!
I agree. I don't need an essay on what makes the sauce I'm buying special. The hard fact is that they were probably all bottled in the same plant.
They were probably all bottled in the same plant. So... do you not understand how American business works orrr? I
I'm just here for Matt shakin'. Can we have something every video that makes me get his shake-on?
Bob Gibson also has the white bbq sauce. Would like to get your input on that because it’s legit.
I dont know if you consider County Bobs a bbq sauce, but you should include it in something
My favorite sauce once I discovered it is the carolina gold mustard based bbq sauce. I make it myself and now the stuff bbq places have in OK is disappointing.
Here in north Alabama, we like the white sauce! Roll Tide!
We like White Sauce too, but we prefer it on chicken! This was a red sauce taste test.

From ma..... a very north state:)
I'm shocked dixie dirt made it but not Mr. P's bbq sauce. I will have to try dixie dirt one day.
I guess I am odd but have you tried the Alabama white sauce?
Dreamland is good, I could drink it from the bottle.
If you are true Roll Tide is Dreamland and white bread for sure.🥰😍❤️
I love ALL of these “Bless your Rank” episodes. But HOW… tell me HOW IN THE HAIL DID YOU NOT INCLUDE WHITE SAUCE???? It’s literally “Alabama” white sauce.
i used to work for full moon and we made our sauce in house. we didnt use anchovies
I’ve only ever had dreamland bbq catering and it is by far the blandest food I’ve had I need to go inside for once
Archibald's overall is still better than Dreamland but you can't beat Dreamland sauce with white bread.
Archibald's is my favorite, but I've never seen it in stores. I get a gallon of it a couple of times a year when I'm in Tuscaloosa. Usually with a whole butt.

So when does matt rank sugar free barbecue sauce?
Roll Dreamland...
Saws bbq is where its at
You have to try the best which FATBOYS BBQ IN PRATTVILLE!!!
Thank you for not wearing red and white. I won’t wear purple and yellow. Just put some Gibson’s white sauce and be done with it, IMO. Never had their red. Which Dreamland is best?

Like there was any question who would be #1 when I saw the title for this video.
Bob Gibson Decatur AL #1
I think tester should be hush puppies lol
I can't be the only one that was hoping for another Pioneer Woman tasting.
Im surprised not to see a white bbq sauce on the list.
What is the name of the music playing in the background????!!!!
I need that name!
Prob copyright free sound hound can't place it
Bob Syke's BBQ looks like an elf.
