Got this for Christmas. Coming from a G29 that I’ve used for the last 4 years. Only play gran turismo and as a casual A/A+ player this is all I need. This is definitely a solid upgrade compared to the G29, especially after fine tuning the many settings on the base! Solely play in VR so the big base doesn’t bother me at all. Would definitely recommend this wheel at this price point! Haven’t had any issues with this base running hot. Also to update to latest settings was relatively easy and completed within minutes.
I bought it first day and have been using it daily. Updating it was fine the first time 1.97 i believe, but at the 2. whatever update it was a pain. The Computer wouldn't recognize it until i repeatedly put the base in update mode, multiple times and sequences, i repeated each specific sequence multiple times too. It finally worked after not having worked in that exact sequence a few times before. I then bought a evo 32 wheel, and apparently needed to be a computer programmer (ok maybe just way more familiar with computers than i am) to update the wheel. I had no idea what i was doing, and had to search for the proper program buried in my program files to open independent of the thrustmaster dashboard. I eventually figured it out but it took hours. All that said, i have zero experience with any other direct drive wheels and very little with force feedback wheels in general (few hours on my brother's old gear drive) The biggest fault i have found is the power cable going into the unit is failing already. I have had to squeeze the connectors on it to increase tension on the pins due to it losing power intermittently. After troubleshooting it to find the issue i realized it was losing tension at the pins due to repeated plugging/unplugging and probably from heat at the connection due to power demand. (I see this type of issue on high power demand connections on cars a lot) It does get warm especially in endurance races on gt7. Dunno if it's hot enough to care, definitely won't burn you in a short touch. The connector is the only thing i worry about there. I replaced the wheel because it was too small for me, (6'1" male) especially compared to a real car. The smallest wheel on any of my cars is 330 cm and that one is tiny compared to the others. And because the 4 way thing on the right was next to impossible to use in VR. (You memory and button press awareness may be better) I could not ever figure out how to adjust traction control etc while racing. The evo is great on both fronts. The rim is big enough to not feel like a toy, and the 4 rotational switches work decent for adjusting trac, brake bias, torque bias, and fuel trim, etc. there are features i really don't need, like the lights on top, and the "extra premium" leather, and the rim is a bit thin for my hands so it does kind off make my hands cramp. I found that the feedback for break locking and understeer is really pretty good. (Felt in turning force and vibration/chatter through the base) Oversteer is there, (felt in turning force) but missing any feedback for wheelspin or slide. I dunno, maybe that isn't a thing for other bases as well, or not in gt7, but i expect it, if not purely based on how good the feedback for understeer and brake lock is. I dont agree with any of the reviews that say there is a point at which you can modulate brakes or that there is a non linear increase in brake pedal pressure with the little rubber deal etc. there is spring pressure and that is it. It is very usable with the hard spring, but the rubber spacer just takes up space and doesn't do anything. It is in the proper orientation according to instructions. All in all I'm super happy with it, as the whole experience is 1000 times better on both tv and VR over a controller. I think most will be happy with the stock wheel. If i were to improve upon it, it would be to make the power connection better and maybe make the cheaper wheel cater to VR specifically since the lights and extras are useless in VR, and especially since ps5 is where this price point really hits the hardest. (I think i agree with all the reviews , there are comparable products for PC, but nothing close on PS5) If you are serious enough to read all that then thanks, and good gaming.
You have to use it in gt7 thats was what is made for... Can u compare it T598 vs ddpro 5nm in gt7 please that would a unique review since no one done it still
How would you say the driving experience is when compared to something like the moza r5 bundle on the pc side to which the t598 at least where I live a direct price competitor is ?
I remember the Moza R5 feeling surprisingly powerful when I first reviewed it. Will be doing a direct comparison soon, but here's my initial R5 thoughts: ruclips.net/video/kGMTr30jnbs/видео.htmlsi=5UGbXz4ozfbbm8f0
Hi I've had mine since release and I think it's great! The 5nm is totally enough for me, I used the t300 for a long time and the t598 is a little bit more powerful but there are so many more details. I also bought the 488 gt3 wheel, which I can definitely recommend, but the sports car wheel that comes with the set is not as bad as you might think. I only ride with gloves and it feels good. I'm still hoping for an update soon because some people sometimes have interruptions when upshifting (me too). The base gets quite warm if you use it properly, but I don't see any problem with that.
I bought it to replace my T300 and found it better on Assetto Corsa vs. GT7. Since the 1.49 update, I quit playing it. I upgraded my pedals and repaired a GT DD PRO that was given to me. I returned the T598 but will get one when it's sold as just a base later for a standby. I loved how different it was to the DD PRO, great 1st DD setup. The Axial drive being the 2 plates gives a different feel, I didn't like that it randomly would flip out. 15 minutes of drifting or twice around Green Hell got the base hot.😅
Have been thinking about getting one, would think that 5nm is enough for drifting? my current ts-xw has something like that, some say 6,2.. did you try drifting with that wheel? Were the pedals too rubbish to include at all? xD
Didn't try drifting but I'd be surprised if you want a really heavy feeling for drifting? Pedals review coming later, I had the T-LCMs already bolted on and wanted to focus on FFB
@@Kireth Well I've been fine with what ts-xw offers, but people in our drift team tend to prefer and suggest moza r9 over r5 version for competitive drifting so that made me ask
@Kireth seemed pretty hot to the touch. I have the settings on the more aggressive side in hopes of feeling the car better. And, this was after a 60min race.
For gt7 use the red mode if it doesnt default to it(mine does others say it doesnt)in game settings use vibration at 100 and force feedback to 5. Fiction off on wheel base. I think there is another setting i adjust in gt7 settings. Can't think of it at the moment as I'm not by it at the moment
@@Kirethcurry’s and thrustmaster website have been sold out since 10 minutes after launch, this does not seem like the best release strategy from Thrustmaster, everything about it seems like it was rushed to get it out before Christmas and they just didn’t have the stock or software to support it.
Just what the doctor ordered! I hope it comes with a recent firmware out of the box. I'm slowly migrating from Forza Motorsport to Gran Turismo, and I'm going to need a new PS5 compatible wheel somewhere next year (I'm now on G29 and G923). For me this wheel will be an upgrade in power, without breaking the bank (and my marriage). I'm playing for fun and relaxation, not competitive. I hope the PS5 base with an Xbox wheel will make it compatible with both systems.
It’s an upgrade from a gear driven system (g29) or a first timers wheel. It seems to be an excellent first wheel or a first upgrade. But not as good as fanatecs dd pro.
It's crap. Pure crap. Plastic-ugly, weird form factor, crap FFB compared to Moza R5 or Fanatec CSL DD Booster with numb feeling, lack of details and super weak torque-peak. The whining noise it produces drives me insane, aswell.
Look at the steering wheel. All plastic as verified by another youtuber. So..... make of it as you will, to me this is another example of a "panic release" from a company to meet a quaterly fiscal target. Save and buy yourself a Fanatec base which is usually natively supported in most games now so you don't have to struggle doing button configurations that drive you mad or ruin the game for you.
Sorry, but i do not agree. This is a very smart approach of thrustmaster targeting the average consumer. They establish the market for a new platform. At the end everyone wins, since it is pushing the competition in the industry. It is just sad for costumers, who already own wheels and pedals of the brand, that thrustmaster did not offer the wheelbase as a standalone Version at release. The company has a very dedicated philosophy towards the product, its costumers and the sim racing community. You propably would not even have products of other Brands, if thrustmaster would not have been doing the groundwork for it.
@@ansgar1502dude this wheel combo is not pushing Thrustmadters competition at all. There are already better products available. The direct axial is a bit of a gimmick to me. It doesn’t really offer anything apart from a weird shape, and sized base. But if thrustmadter is your thing then maybe it’s not a bad buy ???
@@ansgar1502 Legacy does not equate quality. Low price does not equate quality or big sales. I still maintain that this is a panic experimental release. Their t 800 series wheel is lightyears ahead of this but probably did not sell well due to the pricing. To make matters worse, people are actually going back to pre direct drives models because they feel these products were better and cheaper. Now full disclosure. I actually like Thrustmaster, and a lot. I came very close to buying a TG model but fanatec had just come up with the csl and it was the "thing" at that time so i went with a full fanatec kit. Another thing is that Tmaster has released a slew of branded wheels that are truly fun and at an extremely good competitive price. A rarity and i do believe these still work with proper adapters. So if you like Ferrari stuff and feel that your wheel needs to be branded, then Tmaster as got you covered, but like i said, they have had several of these weirdly mid number wheel releases and not a lot of people are talking about them. Honestly you are better off saving for a T818 and a proper set of pedals from whichever company and then you ll be set up for years to come.
@@PierreStacheyou have got a point. I play gt7 on the ps5 pro using the psvr2 headset. I own a lot of excellent (i.m.o.) designed thrustmaster products, such as the th8a shifter, the tss sparco handbrake mod, the tlcm pedals and the Alcantara ferrari wheel. I am going to replace my t300rs base with the t598 base. I think, that this will be a worthy upgrade for my rig and deliver a new (and solid) sim racing experience for me. Regarding the current usage of my rig i do not see any other possibilty to upgrade it at reasonable cost-benefit ratio. But i do appreciate your suggestions and might consider them in the future.

Nice👍 id like to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
Also try upping the force feedback in game settings to get more out of it running at 100%.

Why on p ?
Should be on E no?
P for Performance, E for Extreme. Will be comparing all settings in next video!
