      @@mysinisterhand I can share pictures from the surgery if needed. I used electric tape around the switch to reduce chances of scratching the case. One hand with pliers other hand small screwdriver and plastic tools for exchanging mobile phone recharging batteries. Start slowly to wiggle the screwdriver or plastic tool under the long sides. After loosening the switch a bit I used the pliers to squeeze the side noses of the switch and continued to pull the switch out. Came out pretty well. The rest was just replacement (with marking the cables for correct reconnection) Just ensure that you keep the switch close enough to the case to not cause harm for the other side of the cables.

    I had this same problem with my Model 12. I just replaced the switch, and the problem was solved. Thanks very much for taking the time to make this video! I did test the old switch with a voltmeter after removing it, and it seemed to work correctly. It could be that the wire connections between the switch and the circuit board corrode over time, so perhaps just disconnecting and reconnecting the wire connectors would solve the problem too.

    • @mysinisterhand

      True, however I had detached the switch and reattached it numerous times in my testing and was still having the problem. So wasn't the fix for mine, but could possibly be the remedy for others. Thanks!

    I had the same problem with my first one. Tascam replaced it. Same problem with replacement, but issue didnt rear its ugly head until out of warranty. Instead of ribbing it apart, I left the power button engaged to on last time it successfully turned on then I plugged it into a separate small power strip with its own power switch and it always works now using the power button of the power strip. Not a perm fix but its worked for almost a year like that now. Thx for a better solution. Have to try it.

Sometimes it goes on after a couple tries. But lately, it's taking longer and longer and it's probably a matter of time till I can't turn it on at all. In the meanwhile, I'm going to order a couple switches. Clearly, with all the complaints I'm seeing, Tascam has a faulty switch issue that they need to address.

    Brilliant, super helpful and totally entertaining video!! Mostly, thank you so much for figuring this out for all of us and taking the time to show us how to solve the problem. My switch is still OK, fingers crossed!! But thanks to you, I feel like I might just be able to fix the problem if it ever arises despite being a total knob when it comes down to fixing things. Thanks to your Dad too!!! And while I'm here...
    I have a question for you if you happen to have a second. I bought the M12 in the US but I'm going to spend time in France soon. I've been using the M12 in the US for a year, but it did come with a French power plug along with the US one. Do you think I can take the M12 to France and just use the French plug with the US adapter that came with the unit? Just like that? The US AC adapter does say "Input 100-240 V"... but I thought I'd ask you, since I had issues in France with other US electronic gear before (mind you that "other gear" didn't come with an additional French plug and I didn't bother to check the fine print on the US adapter back then... just bad wishful thinking on my side). Just double checking if you have any input (no pun intended haha) before I take the M12 to France and blow the whole thing the first time I power it up.
    Again, many thanks, your thorough video and fun banter just made my day.

    • @mysinisterhand
      @mysinisterhand 2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. As far as the question about using it in France: it should be no problem to use it just like you are thinking. The "brick" that came with it sounds like the same as mine - rated 100-240 volts - So it should handle the step down of voltage and all you need to do is use the provided France plug between the "brick" and the wall.

    I'm having issues with a power strip to power it on or off. Or not sure if that's because of the power strip.
    Anybody here have to turn their model 12 off and on again to get it to work? It turns on, but no input works, no led on the inputs and dead quiet. After i power it off with the switch and on again, boom, the input leds blink and it'ready to go. Why does the first time i power it on inputs don't work?
    Everything works fine after i power it off and on again.
    I wonder if using a power strip to power it off drains capacitors or makes the Model 12 shutdown improperly and causes it not to restart properly afterwards.
    Anybody else have this issue where you need to power it off and on again to get the input signals to open?
